Hmm... was just surfing ATT's website looking at phones (not iPhones) and suddenly at 10pm EST, the whole site disappeared, with an auto-reloading splash screen which says: "Excited for the big event? So are we!"

And there's a countdown clock...

Sadly, nothing else on ATT's website can be accessed. At all. Cannot log into an account, cannot browse anything. Nada. Must be trying to give their servers some R&R before the onslaught.

this shows up for me.

I want to be able to recieve attachments in my emails, modify them and send them to email again. To do this in iOS is a nightmare. The iPhone is great for playing crappy games that loose appeal after 5 minutes.

I agree the old Samsung with Android phones lacked a slick and intuitive feel iOS provides. But this has now changed with Jelly Bean. Seriously, check out the Samsung Note 2, or Galaxy 3. It takes you 5 years into the future.

Using one of those phones, can you tell us who won the election and if they screwed up the country worse so we can just vote for the other guy and save 4 years? :D

This might be answered but...

We have 2 4S models. If we buy the 5's, when they come, do we just swap the SIM cards and be 'good to go'? I'm not sure if the SIM cards are different sizes (were on AT&T).

different size. u need to call AT&T and do a sim swap on your account.

i asked an Apple employee today when she thought people would start receiving their pre orders, she said about 2-4 week? that doesnt make sense right?

also, if someone could answer this please. lets say i pre order my phone tomorrow. but, i have to use my moms phone number because she's the only one with the eligible phone number, how does that work? and yes she's fine with it.

I have two phones on my account, one business and one personal, and have done that in the past. It was easier then because the SIMs were the same size.

Your iPhone 5 will come with a nan-SIM, you will have to go to your carrier's store and get a new SIM.

Crap. That's what I thought. My wife will have a Shiny iPhone 5 and I'll be stuck with a 4S for a few days :(

I qualify for full subsidized pricing on the iphone BUT i do not want to use my upgrade and want to pay full price for it.

Anyone know how they will handle this ? I have AT&T.

That can be done over the phone?

i.e. I'm ordering the 5 under my Moms name (who is in my account and up for a renewal, she currently has a dumb phone) and was hoping to activate it and then switch it over to my line. I would then give her my 4S.

I'd love to know if this can be done over the phone as well. There's apparently going to be a large amount of mothers with 4S iphones soon.

Could speculate - I think with the 4S they were not supposed to be selling them without a contract at first, but I reserved one for in-store pickup and the guy said it was no problem.

**Edit ** Well I was an idiot and they have confirmed they are selling them unlocked. So I guess you'll be able to order one that way. Just wonder if it will have any SIM at all.

ya that can be done over the phone i believe.. BUT im not sure how it will work because the phone will come activated under your moms # and not yours.

id say just order it under your moms # and call AT&T when you have it in hand and tell them your situation BUT do not turn on the IP5, thats what i would do in your situation.

What site can you order from while being on the iPhone? Will AppStore app accept pre orders?

They haven't clearly said that they are selling them un-subsidized on launch day - as a matter of fact, not all US carriers are selling them at first. So - they may not have the web site set up for this option at all. You may want to go to the store the day after launch or something.

I kind of want to buy mine without extending my AT&T contract too, but can always pay the early termination fee and get it unlocked later. Although the room-mates iPhone 4 has been off-contract for a while and this AT&T 'unlock' process is slow...

I guess I'll get some sleep and see what options I am presented with online in the morning.

I dont mind if I can reserve to pickup one on Launch day at the apple store, BUT i prefer to get it delivered to my office so I dont have to fight the lines and crowds etc.

Better off adding a line, then paying ETF. It's cheaper

We have a business plan, same thing as family, and we use other lines to get the "upgrade" phone. When it comes in, we take it to the ATT store and have it activated on our number, no charge. The only thing it does is for the number the phone was ordered on, it resets the period in which you can upgrade that line again. We do this every other release almost.

not sure, but it would be fun to tell them they need to charge you less monthly as the subsidy should no longer be included. I wonder if if you can actually get that to happen...

What is the unsubsidized price for a 32GB 5 from AT&T? Apple says $550, but I did get a 4S last October so I don't know if that's my "halfie" subsidized price. I don't want to lose out on a 'full' one next cycle.

Actually - it appears they are openly talking about unlocked phones in the fine print at the apple website. So it appears you can order it without a problem, I just don't know if it will come without a nano-sim because they specifically state that you'll have to get a sim from the carrier you choose. I know my 4S came with an AT&T SIM...

Will Apple ship to my hotel address?

I'm currently working out of town and that is the only place that I'd be able to get it when I ships out?

Got my iPad, iPhone 4S and MacBook Pro ready to refresh until I can preorder my iPhone 5. Sadly, those servers will be hit hard! :( good luck everyone! Just know its going to be a pain but we will get through it!
