I'm getting the black one and taking a Brillo pad to it as soon as I get home... Taking a video of it, and then drop the link in here... I'm gonna make mine cool with an aged and worn look...

I hate that They should used glass. I have iPhone 4 and it looks like new been dropped and always in my pocket. Still looks new

I don't know why everybody is so surprised by this. Obviously, glass is harder than aluminum. But it does break more easily, too... There's just no material that resists everything.

They should have used adamantium.

Its just a phone, who cares if it has a bunch of scratches and scrapes, if its a big deal in your life, you have worse problems.

...or not enough.

Everyone's black iPhone is going to look like ass in the matter of weeks. This pretty much confirms it. Especially that test with the ring.

Some fanboys will tell you to just take off all your rings before using your phone.

I take care of my phone and for the short amount of time without a screen protector on the back of my iPhone 4, there were already some tiny scratches. I might have to get the white one

No secret Andozied Aluminium scuffs easily. Anyone who's owned a PowerBook/PowerMac/MacPro/Unibody Mac will readily testify to this.

I'm curious how the white iPhone 5 fares in comparison.

Cut to two weeks later when iFixit brings you the new Black iPhone repair kit for the low low price of $19.99!

You just know it. There will be a whole industry built around fixing "scuffs", just like there was a rear glass and back plate replacement market.

This is shocking and made me wonder about the build quality of my iMac, sure enough I pushed it off the desk and the 27" behemoth hit the wooden floor with a sickening crunching sound, now it's broken. If it wasn't for this iPhone exposé I'd never have thought to check.

Later I'll be putting an electric drill to my Gibson and seeing if my arm can withstand a pass under a circular saw.

Lady, the back of the iPhone is scratched. Hardly "destroyed", as you put it.
You should get a job as an evening newscaster.

Nice to know but hardly surprising.

Glass crack, plastic and metal both scratches. Hardly new. Until someone comes out with black aluminium, anodised components will always have issues, hardly an Apple problem. With black iPhone, just have to take some care that's all if one wants to keep it nice looking. Otherwise it's just a tool.

BTW. My Tiffany titanium wedding band has lots of scuff marks. Is that a Tiffany design issue? LOL

Can anyone tell me if the white doesn't show scratches. ????? Thanks if you got one and using it now.

She is.

The white iPhone supposedly has a "natural" or silver colored aluminum back. Scratches are less likely to show on this kind of surface

I would love to see the reactions Jony Ive and his team had after watching this video...

The solution is simple. 3rd party vendors need to make a back film/protector for the iPhone 5. Over to you SGP and Powersupport.

Probably something along the lines of:
Seriously? You give a 2-year old metal tools and tell her to go at it, and then some fools on MacRumors claim that it'll have the same effect if you put it in your pocket for a couple weeks?!

But that's just my guess. :p

I knew this which is why I got the white one.. I am curious to see how it fairs in the coming weeks.. I'm also curious if apple went with Cornings gorilla glass 2 for the screen.

If you bought AppleCare plus with your black iPhone 5 and your iPhone got badly scuffed, could you purposely crack the screen to get a brand new iPhone for 50 bucks?

Frankly, the real problem is the black sides of the phone are ugly. Really, *** ugly. Scuff it right, and it probably improves. I think the whole 'black sells more' thing is over for this model.

The white model follows the 4s pretty well, different but worthwhile. This....not.

Is this seriously what we are resorting to now for news clicks? If you gouge a 2 year old a set of keys and have her bang the crap out of an iPhone, it scratches. SCUFFGATE.
Except that the iPhone 4S didn't scuff at all. Weren't paying much attention to the video, were we?

Gotta love people who state opinions as fact...

If you put your keys and iPhone in the same pocket, just take your iPhone and throw it away right now. You don't deserve it.

You can do whatever you want to it. Doesn't matter. AppleCare is covers accidental damage.
