Got a white 64gb At&t at Victoria Gardens at 10:02pm. But forgot to add applecare. Anyone know if I can add it before leaving the store or do I have to do a Genius Bar appointment.

They can do it for you at the store when you pick up the phone, you don't need a genius bar appointment.

Is anyone else on ATT getting an error from Apple saying they can't connect to the carrier when trying to reserve a phone?

of course. they bug me to add AppleCare every time I pick up an iphone. you have 30 days after purchase to add it.

I reserved a white 16gb black AT&T for my wife on Friday night and apple put a purchase authorization on my cc for phone and estimated tax. I picked up the phone yesterday and now a second purchase authorization for the correct actual price shows up today on my cc. I assume that the first pa will be credited in a couple of business days. I would think that Apple has enough cash in the till to not have to float my few dollars and could have simply used the initial pa and credited back their original overcharge difference. By the way, the black IP5 is in perfect condition and my wife loves it. It is replacing my old IP4 that I gave her which she crashed and shattered. Her new 5 is in an Ottebox Defender that makes the new phone a perfect weight.

Looks like the store did the device-only sale differently the second time than the first time. First time they cancelled the in-store pickup and refunded the order, and then sold the phone device-only. The second time, they completed the in-store pickup, returned the phone, and sold it device-only. Subtle differences, but I got an email from VZW to verify my email address. And in the receipt of the pickup, I see a phone number of the line.

I'm going to call VZW to make sure they didn't activate the line on the second phone and get me a 2-year contract. I looked up VZW's normal return policy and looks like if I return within 3 days of activation I don't have to pay activation fee. So I should be good. I called Apple already and the lady was not helpful at all, and told me to call VZW.

I should've just picked up the phone and cancelled the contract at VZW, coz now I have to call them to deal with this anyway. It's cheaper to pay the activation + ETF than buying device-only. Oh well.

Update: Just spoke with VZW and got it taken care of, very impressed with their customer service, definitely gonna go with VZW when I move back to the states.

The apple store is so infuriating sometimes. I must have unluckily got the worst employees at the apple store.

So I reserved my iPhone 5 for AT&T yesterday. I go to the apple store at night after work. Arrived ~7:30 PM.

After a 45 minute wait, someone comes to help me. They bring out the iPhone, brand new and inside the box.

After some "gimme your ID and credit card" BS, it turns out some number was typed in wrong. Not be me, by them or AT&T. I'm not even sure. Their answer was to call AT&T.

What happened next makes 0 sense. The "specialist" says that the solution is to call At&t to sort this out. Then he goes "hold on, lemme go find a phone to call At&t".

Every employee is carrying an iPhone yet he spends about 10 minutes going to retrieve a phone to call At&t

After another 10 minutes he gets through to At&t, saying the easiest solution is to just cancel the entire order and start fresh. Apple specialist agrees. Calls someone over to cancel and reorder.

The new guy now cancels the order, then tries to reorder the iPhone, that is literally in his hands. Uses his iPhone to scan the barcode. NOPE. some error pops up. "this iphone is reserved for [jaypow]". What?!

Now its about 8:50PM, and he says that they are closing at 9, so they ask me to come back at another time. However the kicker is he says "unfortunately, the reservations for iPhone's only last a day, and since you didn't pick yours up, its going to go back into the iPhone stock".

I sitting there in disbelief, and so I ask:"where is this stock you are talking about? can i just buy another iphone from there?" . Nope, they sold out.

I can literally see the iPhone box in his hand, WITH my name on it, and he says they are sold out.

9:00 PM comes, manager comes out and says sorry, stores closing come back again.

So now I have to re-reserve it at 10:00 and wasted 2 hours of my life because these incompetent employees don't know how to sell an iPhone.

Sounds like they had trouble activating it. Btw i thought pickups were held for 7 days.

No IP5s available to pick up in store ANYWHERE in LA, CA! I tried white, black, 16, 32, 64. Am I doing something wrong???

A noob question

I did a search on these forum and somehow could not find it being addressed. So please bear with me for asking a noob question 3 weeks after IP5 has been released

I have a pending order with ATT for white 16GB however the estimate for delivery is well beyond Oct ( oh well!!)

I am aware that there is a possibility that I can pick one up from Apple through this goofy route of reservation / pick up.However I would like to find the availability in nearby stores I put in my SSN and go through the all the gazillion steps.

Can someone point me to a link that kind of walks through how to check stock before keying in all personal/private info

Thanks in advance to anyone who responds

@justareader you need to. be at the Check out Screen where you'll have option to pick up in store and should be able to find stores nearby... usually it's updated before 10 or after 10. you'll need to put in your information before you can add the iphone in your cart though.

So is the reserve system tonight pointless tonight? Would apple get shipments on Sunday?

Doubtful. Only chance would be if a store had a huge shipment yesterday and somehow doesn't sell out today.

No, you just have to be patient. The stock/supply ebbs and flows from region to region and city to city. Just make sure you're checking right at 10pm local time. Add whichever phone you're hunting for to you cart a few minutes before and then start checking back a couple minutes before ten.

I saw Boca and Florida Mall had some last night. I know thats central and south but hey if your within an hour of either you may want to take a drive

Unfortunately, even the Orlando stores are a solid 2-3 hour drive from here. Any of the South Florida stores would be 4-5 hours. Town Center actually had the model I wanted last night, but right at check out they asked for the CC verification and by the time I ran and got the card I missed it. :(

Haven’t had any luck here in NJ. Will try again tomorrow – if nothing, I’ll just buy it using the shipment method. Spoke to Verizon local store and according to them they have only gotten 2 deliveries (for pre-orders); hence, checking there is pointless for me.

will the reservation system be active tonight for monday pick up? I'm guessing no

While the reservation system will be active and have the ability to place orders, the problem is there is most likely no phones available for sale as the retail stores do not receive any stock on Sundays. If for some reason the store held some stock for monday or some stock got released from reserves then the stores would have some.

Most likely you will have to wait until Monday night to place a reservation order.

I managed to pick up an ATT Black/Slate 16gb today at the Emeryville, CA location. I showed up at 9:30 with about 3 people already waiting in line for vouchers. By 10:50 the line had about 30-40 people all of whom were able to get vouchers (though there were no Verizon phones available or 32gb black/slates for ATT). Clearly, there were enough to go around today as I saw the couple in front of me return to the back of the line with another set of vouchers in hand. I was pretty surprised they had some stock in considering yesterday was a Saturday, a day they supposedly rarely receive new stock.

When I informed the Apple rep I was buying my phone outright she told me that though I was paying full price for a no-commitment phone, they were not unlocked. I knew this from prior research and was willing to get the phone unlocked via eBay. After I made my purchase, I dropped by the T-Mobile store to see if they were carrying the Nano SIMs and to my surprise they had a stack of about 30 ready to go. They supposedly just got them in the night before and this was the first one they sold.

As soon as I got home and plugged in the phone and to my surprise, I was greeted with the "Congratulations, your iPhone is now unlocked screen". I thought to myself "Well, that was easy enough", popped in my new Nano SIM and was ready to go. I'm currently adding apps and playing around with the phone. Coming from the 1st generation iPhone, I cannot be any happier.

Are returns & reserved phones not picked up the only hope for tonight? Or is there a chance they actually got some shipments in?

I don't think any carrier delivers on Sunday, so no hope unless it is a left over

Wouldn't it be a freight shipment that comes to Apple and businesses in general? I don't know if that's the case or if they deliver on Sunday I just imagine they would have at least some available for pickup on Monday versus waiting til Tuesday. I could be completely wrong, just an idea!

I have looked every night, since the start of the online reservations began, in Omaha, NE for a 16g Iphone and have been unsuccessful every time! There was only one time I saw "in stock" and the closest location was Minnesota. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks so much for your reply!!! Did you get any warranty with your phone? From what I have heard Apple automatically covers any issues with the phone if you puchase from Apple, without any additional cost for insurance etc? You get it for Verizon?

No problem! They were offering the normal insurance that Verizon offers but I plan on getting applecare this week from the apple store. The downside is that I only have a 14 day return period through Verizon but I'm sure apple will cover any hardware/software issues within the first year anyway.
