Hold Limit

Just in case anyone was wondering, I received confirmation via a Genius over the phone that they will hold paid iPhone 5 reservations for 7 days. After that they assume you don't want the phone and may release the order (?).

Hope that helps!

So I have a question, I plan on doing the reserve iPhone utilising an upgrade from my account for my own phone number, is it possible once I go the apple store to get the phone activate it on my own phone number and not the one I used for upgrade?
Yeah! That should be possible lol it's called an upgrade swap.

^^ I'm wondering the same as well. More than likely they will be getting shipments sometime today for tonight's reservations.

Just so you guys know, I could not reserve the phone on contract and then convert it to a device only no commitment sale. The Apple folks gave some BS about the unopened phone having to go back to the vendor because it is no longer sellable. First the vendor is Apple. Second, the device is sealed on the box.

And you have to call Apple to cancel it. You can not do it online. The apple employee was clearly saying stuff that he had no idea about because he said there was a link in the receipt where I could cancel and I asked him where and then he said oh you have to call. I made him call. I told him Apple support had said that you could convert to a full price sale but this was just experience.

Conclusion is once again at any large corporation, even Apple, there is no accountability, no one knows what they are talking about, and just about everything is store to store dependent. There is nothing wrong with buying the device full price from Apple and frankly they should be treating people who are willing to give them the full price for their phones not as second rate customers. They are in the handset making business, not the cell contract business. Would gladly go go some other phone but can't get used to android. All those toucj sensitive buttons on the bottom of the phone I keep hitting g accidentally and something just seems off. So I will probably see if I can line up like a drone zombie sheep for a full price device when they likely only have 10 available per day.

I contacted Apple about this same thing. They said I could return and repurchase as device only. I also called Verizon and they said I could go into any store and cancel contract and pay etf and have device only. I'm about to do this right now so I'll share my experience.

My store says they have ZERO iPhones in store and that will affect whether or not there will be any for personal pickup. Which I don't believe. Don't they normally set some aside for the personal pickup?

Reserved my wife's 16gb white ATT IP5 at the Galleria in Ft. Lauderdale last night, picked up it today. Too easy.

What time did you start checking when placing the order?

Started at 10PM EST. When I did my first reservation right at 10, they couldn't contact the carrier systems so I tried again about almost an hour later on the Apple Store app and chose my Apple Store for pickup before finalizing the order.

Im in the Los Angeles area, hoping to snag an iPhone in SoCal tonight! (Upgrade kicks in around 9pm PST). For a while I didn't see any phones in stock at any Apple Stores, or maybe I just checked too late, not that I could have ordered anyway. BUT, I randomly checked last night at 1AM, and ALOT of stores had both 16GB models that I checked for in Black and White. Hoping I can get mine in white tonight! Will definitely report back.

Reserved my 5 last night, got it today, cancelled my Sprint pre-order. :D

Could you reserve one prior to cancelling your preorder?

I have a vzw preorder that is taking forever and want to get one this way. I'm guessing I have to cancel the preorder before I can reserve one.

Has anyone done this?

You do not need to cancel your preorder first. See if you can pick one up at the store then cancel.

Tonight check the grove. Heard they had a ton of phones today. Know a friend who was able to reserve and purchase 3 for his family.

That's what I did. I reserved it beforehand and waited till I got the device today to cancel. The iPhone 5 was already activated on my account when I went to cancel the pre-order.

OK but the apple store website won't let me put a phone in my cart bc I have a current pre-order. I have to add a line to put it in the cart.

help?

Well, great news for me. After personal pickup didn't work for me, 3 nights in a row(no stock of what I wanted), I simply called all of the radio shacks in my area this morning, and 1 had 2 of the 32GB White Verizon iPhone 5's, and I went there, and got it set up. My mission is now complete.

I have the same problem. I have been stalking the reservation system the last few days and I have had good luck in getting a 16g White, ATT phone. I cancelled my Apple.com pre-order tonight that was placed on the 14th at 8p ET and will take my chances tonight on reserving one.

I am out of town and won't be able to pick it up until Tuesday late morning, but it is my understanding they will hold paid orders up to 7 days so I'm counting on that.

Not sure. I didn't encounter that when doing it online. The Apple Store app let me upgrade over my current phone.

So did you do it with the app? maybe that's the difference. I'm doing it on the web store in browser.

UPDATE: just tried it through the app and still get the following error:

"The phone number you provided already has an iphone reservation or open order associated with it. If you have a reservation, please follow the instructions that were emailed to you. If you have an open order, you will need to cancel it to purchase a new iphone for this number."

So you didn't get that? Maybe it's a difference between att and verizon?
