so if i'm using my dad's upgrade on his dumb phone, and even if i've paid for it with my card, and he is the primary account holder, he still needs to be there at the apple store? that seems really ridiculous. especially if i were getting it for him for a gift, that doesnt' seem right..

Well the account is in his name. Open a new account then cancel.

Yes, well the reservation system is not really a fair system or a logical one when it comes down to execution. You'd want to reward the most loyal customers, right? Well I'm eligible for an upgrade, and using the reservation system, I MUST upgrade and sign a contract for 2 years. Whereas a person who bought the 4S six months ago, can buy a device at full-price and NOT have to extend his/her contract.

People who are eligible for an upgrade should be given the choice to upgrade or buy full price, but they aren't, making it harder for us few to get a phone without extending our contracts.

oh wow..... try to reserve one in South Cal area... ALL GONE....saw 16gb black available at Glendale at the beginning (did not try to reserve because a bit too far for me) and watching it disappear in just 2 mins...what happen to the Supply APPLE!!!!

So I'm curious.

I'm going to use my wifes upgrade (I have an awesome wife)

If I was to reserve and get lucky enough to reserve one I would have to obviously do it on her line via the Apple Store site, I take it Apple can't assign it to my line afterwards right.

If I understand correctly they will activate it on her line. I have been told that I can just make sure to not turn it on until after I'm done at the Apple store and that I'll have to stop by an ATT store or call 611 to have them swap that over to my line before I turn it on correct?

I don't want to have to get a new Sim for my wife cause turning it on deactivated her current sim.

I was under the impression Apple makes you activate it in store.

Nothing at all in the San Francisco Bay Area. Tried a variety of sizes, colors and carriers to no avail. :(

no luck in LA. I put all 6 AT&T configurations in my cart prior to 10pm. saw a white 16gb at a store about an hour from me.... hesitated a little bit, but then already too late -- gone in a matter of seconds :|

I usually stop about now. do some places not update until mid/later in the hour, or beyond?

Can never hesitate. Order first then think :)

I've never seen anything update after the initial 10PM update. I've heard some reports of people having luck with that on the east coast.

Looks like I wasnt the only one

Nope, you weren't.. frankly im getting tired of it, went to two Apple stores this morning and they said to go online and order at 10pm. 10pm rolls around and nothing in stock!

My 4s is getting more better day by day.. i might even flirt with the SG3 , knowing there is so many out there and the price point is right. A used SG3 on CL goes for about $400-$450, whereas a new iPhone 5 is still going for $800-$1000 depending on configs.

has anyone seen any in arizona show up? i have checked the last couple days with multiple colors and sizes and not one shows up.

Found one in Santa Monica and in irvine. 9:57 it came up. Debating on the Santa Monica location, but gone within seconds. Gotta be on the ball.
the one I saw at Americana also came up at 9:57pm -- I'm assuming my clock isn't wrong because the "Buy Now" button didn't become available until 10pm precisely.

those who waited until 10pm to click that button, or to login, or to put it in their cart never had a chance

After reading many posts from this forum, I was able to try tonight for the first time and was able to secure a white ATT 16gb in Chicago.

Here are some tips:

1) The stock list gets updated 1-3 minutes before 10pm ( at least it did for tonight)
2) Add all the iphone of your choice into your cart ahead of time. I added 3 different sizes/colors on my cart.
3)A few minutes before 10PM (central) I started refreshing my cart, then I noticed my first store of choice had what I wanted.
4) I had my credit card store and sped thru the check out.
5) Victory!!!

in step 3) you can also click on the 'Change Store' link. This will show a pop up with the store listings based on the zip code. You also have a drop down where you can select another one of the phones that you had previously added to the cart.

Good luck all. Hope this helps someone.
