Do any of you think that pending the Apple stores were to get stock in on said day that people hanging around in the store would be allowed/informed that the phones are available for purchase? I was under the impression that all phones were being held for the online reservation regardless of them being actually on store premises. Any thoughts....

UPDATE: After calling one of the stores here in AZ I was told that they are holding all phones for the reservation and if they were to not be sold from the 10pm-4am rez system, that walk ins would get a chance to purchase. When I asked regarding if all stores in the PHX area were following this plan I was told yes.

So because you can't get a new iPhone within 2 weeks of coming out, you're going to completely switch OS'es, go with a 2-3 month old phone, and use that for the next 1-2 years?

Oooooookay then. I know patience is hard, but seriously.

It's the fact that Apple has it's head so far up it's ass that I am starting to not want to do any business with them. Their maps app sucks, the phones are coming out scratched, they can't make enough to meet the demand...etc.

Why wouldn't they have plenty of these phones already produced? Why wouldn't they have some sort of R&D for the quality of the finish? These phones should have another bite taken out of the apple on the back of them because thats what they're making themselves look like. A half eaten Apple that people are starting to spit out on the floor because it's ROTTEN!!

I LOVED my iPhone 4. It was the only Apple product i've ever owned. It had me hooked on the brand. But now i'm seeing a different side of Apple.

All this because they're out of stock on a popular phone? If that's the case then cancel your order and move on. It sounds harsh, but its the reality of it because complaining won't change the situation.

I think it's just funny hearing how everyone is so upset that Apple couldn't deliver. If you really wanted your IP5, then you had your chance to pre reserve. I did, but I ended up returning mine the next day because I wanted to change the color and didn't want to loose my unlimited plan. So I'm in the same boat as everyone else now, wanting an iP5. I'm pretty sure that Apple pushed out as many devices as humanly possible.

Be patient, you'll eventually get the phone. I've been trying this reservation system since it was announced and haven't had any luck. But that doesn't mean I should move to an SGIII just because they are available now. I know I won't be happy with that huge device and the image burn-in issues with the OLED screen.

For now, my trusty iPhone 4 is still chugging along and doing everything that I need it to do.

Good luck to everyone who hangs in there!!!

I was told to by AT&T to cancel my order and use the Apple.com store pick up. They said I would get it quicker that way because it wasn't going to ship until October 17th. So thats what I did. Now there are never any available. They should have made PLENTY of these things before they went on sale. Dum dum's.

My phone, as are the phones of several of my friends who also have new iPhone 5s, is blemish-free.

Apple sold over 5 million phones in the first 3 days of sale. 5 million. You do realize that means they had a stockpile of 5 million phones before they went on sale? Imagine a warehouse full of 5 million iPhones (I know they're not all under one roof in reality, but nonetheless). That's a lot of freaking phones. I don't think any one else could crank them out as fast as they're going. Too much manufacturing capacity at the front end results in too much capacity at the backend, which costs the company a lot of wasted money. Given the popularity and sales numbers, I suspect they're building them as fast as feasible. Even the Galaxy S3 was sold out at many locations when it launched.

How long does it usually take for them to have plenty of stock of new products out? A month? Two months?

Don't you think if Apple could have made 8 million, or 10 million, they would have? And given the lines and backlog, they would have sold them, too.

Name one other cell phone manufacturer that can coordinate building/stockpiling over several months then and selling 5+ million phones in one weekend. Motorola doesn't need to move that many phones at once. Neither does HTC.

Would you have had Apple delay the introduction by 3 more weeks so there'd be more? If so, you'd still not get one until mid-October, so you'd be in no different of a position.

I been checking nightly as well and I've been striking out. It's strange because I seen someone who lives in Chicago as well post that they found a i5 last night, but I had no luck right before and right after 10PM.

Actually, yes. I think Apple should've announced Sept 14 and delayed launch until Oct 31 to have 20 million or so phones ready to go. Lots of people are getting frustrated at not being able to give Apple their money. It should not be this hard. More people are likely to be upset and buy something else because it's constantly sold out than they are if the item isn't even on sale yet. You don't hear people leaving iOS because Apple hasn't released the next iPhone. They usually wait until they hear what it is or try it first. People will only try so long to buy something b/c it inverts the customer relationship. Businesses should serve customers rather than customers begging a business. Not a perfect analogy, but consider a popular restaurant. After a certain while, when people see long lines, eventually they turn say it's not worth it. And while the restaurant will no doubt make a killing, they will be not be turning a maximal profit...which Apple as a publicly traded company is trying to do.

As for why some of us didn't preorder; I couldn't. I wasn't eligible for my upgrade until 10/1. Trust me, I hated not being able to get in on the preorder, but it is what it is. The other 2 members of my families picked up their Galaxy S3's last night. I'm the only holdout in my house.

As long as there is a demand for a product there will never be enough no matter how much you delay. Someone is going to miss out on the initial launch. For everyone complains there's about 3 or 4 more people patiently waiting.

You make it sound like all the competitors' hardware is perfect. The grass is always greener, right? What about the drop tests showing the GS3 can't hang with the iPhone 5? What about the Samsung Touchwiz bug that will erase your phone and SIM just by clicking a link? How about the fact Samsung lags behind on OS updates by sometimes 6 months or more?

Those problems are better than a v1.0 mapps app, some extremely anal Apple customers (myself included) looking for any tiny flaws, and production running at maximum capacity?[/QUOTE]

I gave up on the reservation system and walked out this morning with a 64 gig black iPhone 5 from my local AT&T store. I had no idea they had oodles of the 64s in stock.

Yes I would! Apple made it sound like there were plenty iP5's produced to meet launch demands. So I put my iP4 on eBay allowing enough time for the auction and whatnot. Then I order the 5 and BAM...not enough to go around. I would have never done that if they didn't screw up.

Are AT&T stores selling iPhones without a contract now? They can be "locked" to AT&T I don't care; it's unlockable for $10 on ebay, or more likely, already unlocked.

Anyone have any luck finding an iPhone in Michigan? Tried the online reservation a few nights and RadioShack here and there, nothing. I'm thinking I will have to bite the bullet and wait 3-4 weeks. Missed out on the preorder cause I am a Verizon iPhone 4 launch day adopter.

I tried last night and couldnt find stock anywhere in the Midwest. Felt like from Chicago to New York was out. Anyone know if they don't have any for reservation does that mean no shot of walking in for one? Or do they still get shipments daily.

Its like a line of iPhones stacked end to end from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
Its a ******** of iPhones.

I find it hard to believe they had "oodles" of them.....at an AT&T store???

last year with the 4S I preordered mine and walked into a corporate ATT store the next day and they had "oodles" of phones. They had just gotten a shipment in. That is the good thing with ATT stores/carrier stores.....they just get them and it is first come first serve.
