How does the accounting work for earnings reporting? Will the phones delivered in October but ordered in September count for this quarter or next quarter?

At this rate, everyone on the planet will have an iPhone and everyone can stop feeling so special about themselves just for owning one.

Isn't it the Android fans who love to brag about X-million new "activations" every day and XX% market share?

They never fail to vocalize, in the most juvenile of language, how "special" I'm not for using an iPhone.

Selling 8 million is one thing.

Having enough actually BUILT and ON HAND is another thing.

Will 5s continue the climb? Not so sure. After all, the vast majority of people that buy the 5 will be not ready to upgrade (contract or desire) when it comes out.

Ah, but those who bought the 4S will. As will those who decided to try WP7 and ICS...

most of the iphone 4 users would be due for an upgrade now and most skip the iphone 4s so I'm pretty sure the iphone 5 will sell like hot cakes, millions of it

im being dumb here, but doesnt iOS 6 release after the next iphone ? in october?
What wil these iphones sold on friday come with?

You think people that have passed on to the other side of death concern themselves with retail product sales numbers?

That is the most jacked-up view of spirituality I've ever come across!

If there is any chance Steve has any sort of contact with his Earthly experiences then I'm sure he's wondering how the company he built is doing...

B-But the Galaxy s3 is so popular it sold 20 million in a few months! I thought people wanted phablets?

That is one of the most boring ideas of the afterlife conceivable. If anyone in the next life is concerned about money and sales numbers back here, the afterlife isn't really worth looking forward to...

don't forget that all the people who got the iphone 4 with verizon will be eligible for an upgrade in a few weeks! so I expect a small bump in numbers around mid-october

I would be included in this group. Not happy I have to wait until October 9 to upgrade.:(

You obviously didn't know what kind of man he was.

Can't wait to try and activate my phone when I get it, should be a good time. Also I hope Verizon can do something to keep the network from crashing. That's going to be a heck of a load.

Just curious. How long did the SIII take to reach that number?

There is much more competition amongst android phones whereas if you want ios you have one option. Id expect the iphone to smash all individual android records.

I'm going to get one when I can walk into the store and buy one with no line and plenty of inventory. (Even if that takes several months)

Why not just pre-order it and have it sent to your house? You'll get it in a month and won't have to do any type of travel. Also, they charge your card when it ships.

With regard to online sales to individuals, revenue is recognized when the customer receives the product. So only those sales for which delivery is made by September 29th will be recognized in the September quarter. (Apple's FY 2012 ends on September 29th.)

With regard to sales to third-party resellers, for the most part revenue is recognized when the product is shipped to them.
