You think Apple is making the iPhone to cater to specifically your photography needs? I think not.

Also, if you have all this money you say you have from your career, why is carrying around an iPad difficult? I have a camera bag and it'll hold a 13" laptop, my camera, tons of lenses, my tripod and other equipment. There's no excuse for you not wanting to carry around your iPad because it's too big. I'm only 20 and I carry around a 7 pound tripod, my macbook, my camera, a few lenses and other equipment on shoots. I'm sure an iPad isn't that difficult.

Since you're actually a professional or claim to be, you would think you'd be used to carrying around all of your equipment/have the equipment to carry all of it around.

I do agree here

I think this is 1 reason why he doesn't carry an iPad 100% of the time as I posted here...

I don't think people get what you're talking about with iPhone and the iPad. Yes you said the iPad is the main thing you use, but people don't get you don;t carry it all the time. You run out of the house to a fast food place just to grab a bite and you hear people talking about a wedding. You work your way up and hear them talking how they will need a photographer, and you talk to them and you have pictures ready on the iPhone.
It's not like you run out of the house for 10-15 minutes and think "I better bring the iPad.."
Do you bring your iPad when you run the the store to get milk right away or something let alone all the other equipment? I bet you don't

I am concerned about the new screen size on the iPhone 5. If it is really true that the screen is going to be 640x1138 pixels, then photographers are gonna be in trouble...

No they're not. Your photos will look exactly the same (or better, assuming the screen will have better contrast, colours etc), the kids can watch their videos and games in 16:9, and the rest of us will enjoy more vertical space in just about any app. Positives all around.

If I keep my 4S and get an iPad mini, I am in the same situation. I need something that is with me always and that can show my work. You never know when an opportunity comes and you might not have an iPad handy. The phone, on the other hand, is a necessity. The iPad is just secondary.
I was just hoping for a less wide-screen on the new iPhone. That's all.

I get you. I just think people realize your phone is what you have on you, and I don't think a different form factor will cost you sales. I think their current size is good. The goal seems to be a larger screen without the potential to break apps.

Let's not forget... it's _only_ a phone. It doesn't matter who makes it. Apple has the garden variety consumer in mind. Designed for the masses, this is not a professional device.

The goal is to sell zillions and make tons of money. That's why gimmicks are added, included in their marketing plan and in commercials on TV. It's about wowing the easily entertained, and making them feel compelled to buy one.

Now that Apple has met that goal, nothing else matters to them. Nothing. They will just keep selling it until interest begins to fade. Then they will do something "Magical" to rekindle interest. This could go on and on for a very long time.

It's just a phone :)

I am a Professional Photographer. I show my work on my iPhone 4S and iPad 3 all the time and I rely on it to impress my customers.

I am concerned about the new screen size on the iPhone 5. If it is really true that the screen is going to be 640x1138 pixels, then photographers are gonna be in trouble...

Right now, the ratio of the photos from my Canon 1D X is 3:2 (Most Pro Cameras have that ratio).
The iPhone 4S 8MP Camera and most consumer pocket cameras have a Ratio of 4:3.
Full HD Video (1920x1080) has a Ratio of 16:9 (The same ratio of the future iPhone 5)

What does that mean for photographers or people that want to show photos on an iPhone?
It means lots of wasted space (huge black borders) and the same actual size displayed photo as a smaller iPhone 4 screen. Of course, double tapping will zoom the image and give you a full screen coverage but with a ratio (16:9) that is not good for either 3:2 or 4:3 photos... To me as a photographer, a really bad thing.

Even if Apple changes their camera ratio to a 3:2, there are still 178 pixels of wasted space on the sides of the photos.
It will be a great screen for videos but NOT for photos. :(

Look at the attached screen comparison chart to see what I mean.

You're showing porn photos on a screen with only a pathetic 60% sRGB color coverage, and you're more concerned with wasting a minuscule amount of pixels?
Arrogance has its limits, does it not?

Well he did put it on a public forum, and not a specialised Photography one at that.

At the end of the day this whole thread is pointless as none of us know what the next iPhone screen will actually be for sure.....

true, but we can speculate on one thing and that is apple did stop catering for their true loyal customers.

They use to advertise themselves as 'good for media, design etc.' and pc was the boring business models.

Now ? they are they are considered imo boring with iOS. something went wrong.

Conclusion, the iphone won't be targeted to the audience of the OP, sadly.

It's not porn, so you guys need to get over yourselves. It's female modeling. He's just the guy that takes the pics. Porn is people having sex on camera and recording it and selling it. All he has is pictures of nude women. You guys need to relax, seriously lol.

I think he means everywhere with him when not working. So going to a party and meeting potential clients, he can flash his pics on his iphone instead of carrying his ipad with him.

Sorry to chime in here but um, since your telling everyone they don't know what there talking about anyways; Since your a professional photographer, dont you carry bags/backpacks etc anyways with all your camera equipment? Your saying you can't carry a 10'' thin iPad 3 with your $7000 camera and countless equipment that it surely has?
And you say you can't even carry the alleged iPad Mini either? Geez. Forget about the iPhone 5 screen, invest in a bigger bag.

Edit: This was already pointed out. :p Ah well.

Whatever you do, I don't think carrying around a device full of porn is sensible even if you do photograph it for a living.

Probably best to show clients on a computer where you can safely hide/show content as appropriate.

There's a fine line between artistic nude and porn, this crosses that line.

I am not a photographer but find your posts very enlightening. I am with you on this, the fact that apple use to cater for designers, developers, media producers etc. but have dropped those loyal customers for the masses.

What will you do now if the current iphone is as rumored?

I also find the fact that every tom, dick and harry are trying to advice you without any knowledge very funny. You're handling it pretty well tbh.

What about all the film makers? Surely the new iPhone is better for them?

To the OP, just don't buy one if it means this much. Means another one is in stock for me to buy :)
