surprisingly i think i actually got some info out of a rep ( i try a lot) over ATT chat... here's what he said..
"I believe Apple ditched the first come first serve policy and they are now trying to get the device to the customer by region and availability, even then I am not completely sure on their approach."

Don't worry, it's already on its way. I ordered one and it said preparing for shipment even the package was shipped three days ago.
My order was almost the same (64GB) - I got my "Preparing for Shipment" change on Friday and it hasn't changed yet.
Call your carrier to see if they have a tracking # yet. A lot of people have had the same issue only to find out the phone was shipped. Sometimes the status update hasn't been updating effectively.
