will only upgrade if the coolest features of iOS 5 can't be run on 3GS...otherwise, i'll wait another year for iPhone 6.

Why would you hold on to an old Iphone when you can sell it for at least $150 or more? I know people who sold their Iphone 3Gs right after the Iphone 4 came out for close to $300. We will all be able to do the same when the Iphone 5 comes out...sell you old Iphone 4 and get the Iphone 5. ATT usually lets you upgrade every year.

And September is only 2 months later than usual...

I wouldn't mind a heavier phone, if it meant better battery life or a bigger screen.

I think Apple are too obsessed with this "Thinner, Lighter" everything. It's a phone, it is no where near 'Heavy'

Please! Make the damn phone bigger! Oh no, it may weigh a few more grams. Currently, the iphone4 is a tiny phone. For us adults, please increase the screen size, and probably, the width.

If they do then the iPhone 4 will be my last iPhone. The iPhone 4 is big enough. Any larger and it won't fit as nicely in pockets.

I don't necessarily want it to be bigger just to be bigger, but I am tired of the now-stale marketing schtick Apple does year after year, "The new iPhone/MacBook/iPad/iPod is now ten percent thinner/lighter, smaller!!!!! And the crowd always goes crazy. It's just getting dumb at this point. Like with the iPad, there is absolutely no need to make the iPad any thinner or lighter; 90% of the people who buy one immediately buy a case which inherently makes it thicker and heavier. Same with the iPhone. I see them around all the time, and I honestly don't remember the last one I saw not in a case that made it bulkier and heavier.

I'm sure he just means the screen and it has been proven that a 4" screen will not increase the physical size of the phone.

Even if it went to 4.5" or 5" and made the phone slightly bigger, you probably wouldn't even notice (but this is more than extremely unlikely to happen)

I can buy an iPhone without contract and I don't live in Europe.

This is a world phone.

 that's not the point?

Still doesn't mean we have to make sure nothing we say fails to take into account the existence of every potential Apple customer. And that anyone should self-righteously "correct" any statements that do. IOW in the context of this discussion summer ends in September. What relevance does the existence of different season schedules have when the U.S. company references northern hemisphere seasons?

Here in Belgium a combination pack of iPhone and a subscription is still illegal, so all the iPhones are around the same price, namely 749€ (yes, euros) for the top model (sucks, doesn't it).

So when the iPhone5 comes out, the iPhone4 will become 100€ cheaper, that's too small a difference to let the iPhone5 pas by. Unfortunally because the price is so high and we can choose our own telephone subscriptions I buy them in 2-year cycles.

For me the iPhone5 can be an upgrade of the iPhone4 with the same design. Just change the backside from glass to metal.
I'm looking out for September.

I just bought the iPhone 4 and to be honest, I don't even feel an ounce of disappointment that I could've waited a 5 months for the iPhone 5. I am so thrilled with the iPhone 4 and its capabilities. I've never run into any issues with the external antennae.. I dunnno. I'm a long time diehard apple fan.

Sorry if this seemed a bit irrelevant, just wanted to throw my two cents in.

I would like the same specs but 2x batt life.
Get a battery pack to charge it at some point. The iPhone 4 is pretty high up on the scale of battery life among smartphones. I don't think it's going to increase because we all seem to be happy with this general battery life area.
They can keep the form factor, just give us a bigger screen. Stretch it to the bezel.

That thing is dying for a 4", hell even a 3.7" screen.
No. Don't stretch to the bezel, unless the bezel is getting bigger, which is the same bloody thing as making a bigger phone. I don't want the screen at the edge of the phone, and nobody makes this, for good reason. You have to be able to hold onto something on the phone. Really.
This update is not good enough, apple. Do more.

8 megapixel camera with 1080P recording.
1080p recording has nothing to do with the camera. It is 2592x1936 on the iPhone 4, so 1080 is possible.
You're a ****ing idiot. I'm not acting as if I were entitled to anything, I'm just pointing out that a large part of the world doesn't give a crap about 2-year contracts. My upgrade cycle for iPhones is every 12 months, and the same goes for most people I know.
So, we aren't allowed to talk about contracts? On the internet? Because you might come by and read about it? Yes, that is what "entitlement" is, get over yourself and skip over the posts that don't apply to you. Christ, esp when it is a positive for you.

I'm still left wondering, why the delay if it's only a minor spec bump? I don't doubt the sept. release it just doesn't add up. Rumors of a later release started well before the quake in Japan so I don't think you can justify that as the cause.

This is what I am asking as well. The rumors are that Apple will be hanging their hat on a new iOS update, but it better be one heck of a chnge because as iPhones look now they feel somewhat old. Apple may say they don't want widgets for whatever reason but they sure add some pep to the screen and make the phone feel fresh.

From what I'm seeing about the iPhone 5 hear, it's really the iPhone 4S ("S" for speed). If my phone can continue to run forthcoming iOS releases well, I don't see myself upgrading until a 64 GB version appears.

You're just screwing with me, right? Because this has nothing to do with what I actually wrote.

I thought that would be the upgrade this year... nothing special like the 3gs update.
If I can't run iOS 5 then maybe but i'm sure I could run it on my iphone 4

You don't have to.

It doesn't sound like there's much there to tempt iPhone 4 owners but it should be a great update for those with the 3GS and 3G.

Of course, for iPhone 3G user, like me , iPhone 4s or 5 will be a big upgrade.

I'm getting so sick of hearing this excuse. NO ONE holds the phone by the TINY little black glass area next to the screen (right and left in portrait orientation)... the hold it by the metal edge, which has nothing to do with how close the edge of the screen is to the edge of the phone.

So tired of this.
