Earlier today, we noted that Case-Mate cases for the redesigned "iPhone 5" had appeared in AT&T's inventory database. The addition yielded the interesting observation that AT&T is apparently placing orders for the cases despite the growing feeling that Apple may not be releasing such a device and instead releasing only the "iPhone 4S" design that is nearly identical to the iPhone 4.

We now have evidence that cases for the rumored iPhone 5 redesign have already begun arriving at AT&T retail stores, as one store employee has sent us photos of iPhone 5 silicone sleeves that appear to have arrived today. Like other cases for the rumored redesign of the iPhone 5, these cases appear to show a tapered design and the mute switch moved to the opposite side of the device.

Third-party cases continue to be essentially the only evidence in favor of a redesigned iPhone 5 even as evidence for the iPhone 4S continues to mount in the form of parts leaks, inventory database listings, and other reports from sources.

Fake, att does not use these case manufacturers and they would not place orders for cases until the devices are announced. They surely would not arrive this early. If you look at the photo with the casemate stuff, one of the cases are spelled differently than the others. I'm not saying there won't be an iPhone 5 but att does not have this stuff in inventory yet and it is not arriving in the stores.

Let's Hope

Obviously, lots of people like the iPhone 4. I returned mine because I just didn't like how it felt in my hand plus I didn't like the glass on the back. I prefer the curved back of the 3GS. I also love my iPad 2 and iPod touch 4G, both of which also have a curved back design. I hope Apple has created an iPhone 5 with a metal curved back like the iPad 2. I hope.

I'm gonna say thats a camera button on the right. They will make the mute pure software only. The button on the right side of the phone will be the camera shutter button. You heard it here first!

The Best Thing

The best thing ATT's done lately is to reveal these cases.
I'm really hoping for a new form factor, I'm surprised that these are out in the wild so far before even the announcement even though there hasn't been a verifiable hardware leak.

Sorry guys this is a case for an iPod Touch update. Just like all the other "tear drop" cases that rumor sites flame as iPhone 5.

I like the camera shutter concept, but i often forget to mute my phone before heading into a meeting. I really dont like the idea of having to unlock my phone, double tap (or whatever the equivalent will be if we get a capacitive slider) and hit a mute icon just to mute my phone. Much easier to just flip a switch.

Perhaps a button could serve both functions. Mute/unmute when the phone is asleep. Then tap once to activate camera mode, tap again to snap a photo.

I'm not sure that this really proves anything. Would you REALLY believe AT&T reps/stores for your information regarding an iPhone launch. I realize that those cases are available there but I'd bet money on them simply ordering it as a "just in case" (pun intended) so that they can charge their ridiculous prices for them to the early adopters should the iPhone 5 become available.

Besides, when's the last time an Apple product came out without there being parts showing up all over the place? As much as you all would like a new iPhone form factor, it doesn't make sense right now. Why not roll out real 4G, when it's ready, onto a huge screen rather than stuffing it into a 4? Why waste a perfectly good design on just one product cycle? It just doesn't make sense to put come out with a new form factor. Plus, where are the parts?

So why does the label say iPhone 5?

Sarcasm? Why would AT&T stores have them then? And hasn't the same form factor been pretty much confirmed for the touch?

No, the manufacturers are representing them as being for iPhone 5. Not the rumor sites.

This makes zero sense, since iOS 5 now lets you use the volume up button as a shutter button. Why go to the trouble of touting this as a feature, only to introduce a dedicated button in the next hardware iteration? Besides, Apple is more about lowering the number of buttons, not raising it, and especially not with single use buttons like this when there are alternatives which have multiple functions.

So when your in a meeting or the movies and you forgot to silence your phone you have to take take it out of your pocket and turn it on and navigate to an area to mute it? I don't see that happening, sorry, that would be a very stupid move.

Am I the only one who doesn't want a tapered iPhone? It will be strange holding it in landscape mode, slightly larger grip required by one hand? IDK
