Oh please record that with a Dwight Schrute voice.Day 1 buy from the Apple online store for me. I have no desire to camp out overnight, but i am still excited, as long as its up to par or exceeding with features.

Agreed. I like the idea of a subtle and elegantly done strobe that would be an indicator for notifications, etc. when the phone is asleep. But I've always been curious why the iPhone (and especially the iPad) doesn't have the backlitlogo like the MBPs and MBAs when in use. That would be killer. But for obvious reasons it seems like it would be to conserve battery power. As far as the mockup shown on page 1, I"m not a fan of that design at all - the back is heinous.
Apple isn't going to ditch the design they invested in for the iPhone 4. iPhone 6? Maybe. But not this go around. Improved specs, that's it.
Can't wait to see you all disappointed.
the antennas will be built into the plastic apple logo in the back.

apple licensed liquidmetal exclusively. from the liquid metal SEC filing...
"granted to Apple a perpetual, worldwide, fully-paid, exclusive license to commercialize such intellectual property in the field of consumer electronic products in exchange for a license fee"
now, they surely didn't do that so they could include a high-tech paperclip with the iphone 4. they clearly have plans for this material.
there has been lots of talk about a new "edge to edge" design that would essentially reduce the thickness of the side bezels to gain added real estate for a larger screen. such a design will require a very tough, very rigid material that can be cast with great precision. liquidmetal is stronger than aluminum, stainless steel or even titanium alloy. it's super light and easier to mold. its rigidity would make such a design possible and it's resistance to scratching, cracking or denting would make it extremely durable.
the liquidmetal website also says that by mixing it with other alloys, you can achive unique colors which could be an interesting twist..and finally there is a vague reference to unique "acoustic properties". who knows what that really means...
i think they'll go to metal. the obvious weight savings, thickness reduction and durability gains are too strong to ignore. the only wildcard is the antenna. i have no idea what they'll do about that...
here comes all the iPad 2 look alike mods for iPhone 5... like this has never happened before.![]()
I don't think we'll be "disappointed". Even the iPhone4 as it is stands out as the best smart phone on the market today. Even if they just improve the specs that would make it even better.
I would think the iPhone 5 will be:
+ Current design.
+ Maybe a Liquid metal back in place of glass?
+ Maybe a slightly bigger screen in the current case?
+ Upgraded processor
+ Upgraded cameras
+ More battery life
+ RFID
+ 4G
+ iOS 5
I mean really... what else you going to add? Kitchen sink? It's a smart phone that's pretty darn smart already.
While I doubt the aluminum back, I knowwon't return to a sloped sides like the 3GS for the 5.
The current design is an absolute masterpiece. Going back to chamfered edges would be a huge step backwards.
The 1st generation iPhone was and still is a work of art.

Twice the glass means twice the likely hood of the unit breaking. Stupid design decision there is no doubt.I see some people think the glass is to fragile, but the screen is the same so you will always have glass to protect. It's not the normal non tempered glass, it's actually much stronger then regular glass. Anyway's it's very easy to change the back and it's only $29's. We (family, wife, daughter & son) have four iPhone 4's and only had to replace one back panel, my daughters broke after her cousin dropped it without her bumper on it. It's not hard to take care of it, and when you spend the money on it why would you not use care when using it. If you are hard on equipment just make sure you put it in a case, because if you are hard on stuff it doesn't matter what it's made of.

...It doesn't make sense that they would redesign the antenna again. They've seem to have gotten it down pat with the Verizon model...
