The current design is an absolute masterpiece. Going back to chamfered edges would be a huge step backwards.
here comes all the iPad 2 look alike mods for iPhone 5... like this has never happened before.![]()
Liquid Metal back!
Just saying that that would be a good time to start using the superior properties of it. E.G. RF transparent and scratch resistant.

I don't think we'll be "disappointed". Even the iPhone4 as it is stands out as the best smart phone on the market today. Even if they just improve the specs that would make it even better.
I would think the iPhone 5 will be:
+ Current design.
+ Maybe a Liquid metal back in place of glass?
+ Maybe a slightly bigger screen in the current case?
+ Upgraded processor
+ Upgraded cameras
+ More battery life
+ RFID
+ 4G
+ iOS 5
I mean really... what else you going to add? Kitchen sink? It's a smart phone that's pretty darn smart already.
retreated until material manufacturing catches up with their aesthetic vision.

I can't see Apple going back on a design. They have moved forward from the curved backs.
Great, now we can look forward to scratched up Apple logo once again.
This is a mockup used as just a visual aid for the article. They haven't stated anything about going back to the curved back.
Calm down people, it's just a mockup.

The original iphone was an awesome design I hope that it does have an aluminum back. Makes the phone feel that much nicer and just really makes it feel special.

Actually, no. The article is proposing bringing back aluminum. If Apple did that, they would employ the curves used in the iPad. You are the one who needs to rethink it.![]()

Any half-decent Industrial Designer would NEVER go back on a design.
Apple moves forward and innovates.
This is not innovation.
I didn't read everything so maybe someone else said this already: The iPad is squarish on the sides, and the iPad2 is tapered. That goes against every quote above.Apple isn't going to ditch the design they invested in for the iPhone 4. iPhone 6? Maybe. But not this go around. Improved specs, that's it.
Can't wait to see you all disappointed.
Ditto. If this was June and I had a choice between this and the 4 before it was no longer available, I'd pick the 4.I think the iPhone 4 design is Apple's best work. In my opinion, it's the most sleek, elegant, mature phone design ever. I've never been a fan of the tapered edges, and I was extremely disappointed to see them on the iPad, but the only reason I'm saying this is because of the mockup.
Well it *better* happen if they don't do a redesign, since a serious bumps in specs is needed to keep high sales.
On the other hand - the current specs are quite impressive already, how to improve that significantly?
Seems pretty odd to me that a product that just got a complete redesign less than a year ago, will be redesigned again.
Not if they design it like the new iPad. The sides would be rounded but the back wouldn't be.
