People are referencing the curves on the side, bud. And how it makes the buttons harder to push and the fact that it is a revert in design sense.

People are saying how the buttons are harder to push with curved sides or just the one guy who said something about it?

It's probably awkward for people coming from an iPhone to a iPod Touch. If you hold it in the palm of your hand with a medium grip it's not that bad, just different, which is typical though.

If it dents just like the aluminum used on the MPB they will have many unsatisfied buyers.

I gave it a positive purely for the antenna redesign. Because frankly the 'Antenna on the outside' idea has to be one of the biggest tech fails of 2010.

Oh, it does? You do realize that is a GLASS back, right? LMAO.
Go ahead and LYAO. You can't tell from that mockup if it's glass, plastic or painted metal. Shiny black doesn't always mean glass. Wait, the back of my 3GS is shiny black. It must be glass.

Recessed headphone jack.

This was the biggest problem with the original iPhone. Screw lack of MMS and copy/paste. Having to carry an adapter in my wallet so I could plug my iPhone into normal 3.5mm cables was a hassle.

If they brought back the recessed headphone jack, I would probably buy an iP4 at a discounted rate.

This is my vote!

It has 4" screen and liquid metal.

I will admit that I do love the iPhone, but am not a fan of the iPhone 4. Spent a lot of time inspecting a friends iPhone 4, but it felt so fragile. The original 2G iPhone was an awesome work of art and I loved the metal back (aside from the black section which was necessary)

Now that technology has advanced, I would love to see a convergence of old and new. Cues from the original (except for the recessed headphone jack) and the advances or even further with a higher MP camera with 1080p video capture and dual LED flash (taking a nod from the HTC HD7).

The mockup picture is obviously an early idea which may never come to be but it's wishful thinking.

a few slight cosmetic mods like the apple logo size (but it would prolly have to be that big for the antennas) and the home button wouldn't be physical but would be capacitive and that phone would be in my pocket the day it is released. I always liked this mockup the best. if apple is daring, yea this will be close, if apple is apple, it will be a upgraded internal iPhone 4

Anyone who thinks the iPhone 5 will be a iPhone 3G/3GS upgrade doesn't understand the details behind upgrades.

Btw, the 3G to 3GS upgrade was very big, internally. But externally they remained almost identical. That's because there wasn't any competition in the smartphone market at the time. Android was just starting up, and Apple had the majority of the market to themselves.
For this reason as well the iPad 2 is like a 3G to 3GS upgrade (mainly spec update).

But in 2011, the smartphone market is intense and Apple has to pick up their A game and really deliver a proper phone with a proper software.
From all their products, Apple needs to work on the iPhone the most.

I feel that it's mainly the people stuck in contracts with their iPhone 4 are the ones who are saying the next iPhone will be an iPhone "4S".
just a spec update? Are you kidding me? It's a huge update. The A5 Dual Core processor itself will blow any iPhone 4 away and will have a much longer life than any iPhone yet. Not to mention the other features.
The iPhone 5 should be able to last longer than iOS7, and your iPhone 4 will soon become obsolete, when Apple starts using the powerful GPU integrated with iOS.
Then when quad-core comes out the iPhone 5 will become obsolete.

Just enjoy your phone guys, don't undermine the new phone that's coming.

3gs actually drops more calls than 4 according to att's stats. But people are convinced, so they think 4 was a fail. Actually one of the most innovative/brilliant designs ever

I really don't care what comes out in June/July, I'm buying it regardless of my contract. But I really don't expect much coming from this next update externally on the phone. Unibody at most. Internally yea it's going to be great. Each phone get's better and better. But saying the next one will last til iOS7 is a bit farfetched. The A9(A5) is old tech already. The iPhone 3GS was supposed to be amazing and last a while too, but I doubt it will see iOS 5 without being bogged to death.

thinness

The thing about the glass back is that they have to make it so thick to be reasonably stong - and there seems to be some debate about that. With metal, be it aluminum or... yeah "Liquid Metal" (we'll see), they can make the case very thin and still have plenty of strength.

I think Apple sometimes does things just because they can (Cube, floating display, MP3 player with no buttons, glass phone) and then pull back. And I admire them for it.

Enjoy your Android phones and tablets everyone...

Google Takes Heat Over App Security
By SPENCER E. ANTE And AMIR EFRATI

"A major software attack on mobile phones has put pressure on Google Inc. to do more to secure its online store for smartphone applications.
The company behind the now ubiquitous Android operating system came under fire after computer-security experts last week uncovered more than 50 malicious applications that were uploaded to and distributed from Google's Android Market.

Some security experts said the incident shows Google, which doesn't inspect Android apps before they are published, needs to do more to try to ensure the apps are safe before they are offered to smartphone users.

Google largely relies on users to rate apps and raise the alarm about any problems with them. It also requires consumers to give their consent for an app to access their personal data. But that approach isn't enough, according to Chris Wysopal, chief technology officer of computer-security firm Veracode. "App stores need to get serious about vetting code before it is available for customer download," Mr. Wysopal wrote on his blog.

Surprised at all the iP4 hate in this thread. I hope they continue with the sandwich design, it looks and feels more professional and is much sturdier. Compared to our 2G's and 3GS's within my group of friends that have iPhones (of about ~40 people) and our current and previous iPhones I can say that there is only 3 note worthy issues that ever arose with the iP4, neither of which involved breaking glass or antennae's, one was a screen issue (with a slight dull red colour on the screen) and one was a battery issue.

Compared with the same populations previous iPhones, where everyone with the first gen iPhone had some level of dents on the back. And of those who had 3G's and 3GS's we had 5-6 screen shattering issues and 2 issues involving a severely cracked plastic backing.

And this is an aside from screen scratching, which has consistently seemingly improved with each gen amongst the group (and no it's not gonna b/c people started treating their phones better, lol you should really see how these people take care of their phones :p )

I've had some unfortunate accidents with my phone dropping it from heights of 3-5 feet on brick, cement, marble more than once each and my iPhone 4 has no issues with any of its two glass screens.

I like the aluminum back and if the pictures in that mockup are even close I will be in heaven. We have four iPhones in our family and they are all the 3GS models. We have not upgraded to the iPhone 4 partially because of the antenna problems but for me personally I like the rounded corners of the 3GS form factor (better when you put the phone in you back pants pocket). I also spent a ton of money on BMW car kits for the 3G/3GS form factor (more than the phone costs); when the 4G came out I was stuck. I really hope Apple goes back to the general form factor of the 3G/3GS.

I didn't have to change the way I hold my phone with my 3G, or use a case.

Only when I began to change how I held my iPhone 4 would it keep the signal.

No, it is glass. I read about the damn mockup when it was created. Thank you for allowing me to clarify.
