I still love the look of my iPhone 2g. 3G and 3GS went back in terms of design with the plastic back. The iPhone 4 brought back the looks with the flat sandwich like glass look. I wouldn't mind aluminum again but glass also looks great.

No flash on the back + rounded back edges = recycled iPhone 3Gs mock-up.

Also, no way they go back to a backside that wobbles on a flat surface.

Out of curiosity, who cares if the phone wobbles on a flat surface?

While I understand why this was a negative of the iPad - I don't think I've ever tried to type of the keyboard while it was lying on a flat surface.

Having just bought an iPhone 4 late last year, it sucks to hear news of them already announcing the iPhone 5 this summer.

Recessed headphone jack.

that's not fun...

other than that I'd much rather hold my iTouch2 than my ViPhone4
Aluminum is fine. Of course it's really soft and does scratch... but... ahem... if want your electronics pristine, that's you're own burden... and scratches on an aluminum surface don't really harm the functioning of the device. Also, compare to other phones. They're going to scratch too. Smaller/lighter= better. I'd spring for the iPhone Nano for sure, plastic, whatever, I don't care, make it out of marshmallows...
(actually, I've finally gotten used to having a huge brick in my pocket (Viphone 4 + woodkaseUSA wooden case)

I keep my iPhone to the left of the keyboard and occasionally scroll through my email with it. With the round back, it would move around too much for my liking. With the iPhone 1 and iPhone 4, its perfect. Actually, the 4 is better in that it uses an IPS screen which is better for off axis viewing.

With regard to durability, I don't know what people are doing with their phones. I got one of the free cases that Apple handed out, and it completely protects the phone. If I take the case off, it looks brand new. I carry my phone with me everywhere and have it in my back pocket at all times.

That's like people who buy a new car and immediately put an ugly ass nose cover on it to protect it from a few paint chips. Trouble is, the cover looks like ass x 10 compared to a few nicks here and there.

And a case on the squarish iPhone 4 makes it look even more... squarish...

Happens every year. You just have to make a decision and stick to it. A year is a LONG time when it gets down to it.

I hope it looks like this. It goes back to how the iPhones originally looked before transitioning to that awful iphone4 design, that not only has antenna problems but breaks (back panel) in your pocket (yes this has happened to me) Makes sense since its similar in design to the new iPad2.

IMO the iPod touch 4g is the worst thing i have ever tried to hold/use/look at. Idc if It makes it .01mm smaller don't do it to meh iPhone!

You didn't know they were going to release an iPhone 5 in summer? They're also going to release an iPhone 6 in Summer 2012.

A random thought. What if the chinese source got it wrong. I was thinking that this device is actually be a "3G" iPod Touch. It looks like an iPod because it is an iPod. Redesigned antenna for jumping on 3G networks. Granted Apple owns the MP3 player market in many places and there are many people who wouldn't, but it would be a feature that few if any other competitor would have. The ultimate mp3 player. Itunes, iOS apps, camera with facetime and 3G connectivity. Like I said, random thought.

I find it funny and surprising people keep referring to the next iPhone as the iPhone5. It seems so obvious to me that it will be called the iPhone 4G.

I loved this mock-up when I saw it.

While I love my iPhone 4, my iPhone 3gs felt better in my hands. I always felt the designs of the iPad (1) and iPhone 4 should have been reversed.

Love this one! Would like to see one of the front too.

i think it looks GREAT!
i remember when everybody was saying oh that can't be the iphone 4
it is so ugly?!?? well i really hope this is the new iphone 5! i still love
the iphone 2G. i think it was the best of them all (just wish it was a
little thinner).

I care. I realize most of the time the phone is being handled so it's no big issue. Sometimes i like to scroll thru menus, emails, apps etc... while the phones sits near me at work or home. And while doing those things I wouldn't want to deal with a wobble, neither would you. Besides no one complains about a flat back although I have heard folks grumble about the wobble. :)

Also, there is more to do than just type while its on its back. ;)

Cheers to the consistantly grumpy MacRumors Forums gang. Can u feel the love?...:(

I just want an iPhone that works properly, so all the excuses & denial stops.

I don't think we'll be "disappointed". Even the iPhone4 as it is stands out as the best smart phone on the market today. Even if they just improve the specs that would make it even better.

I would think the iPhone 5 will be:

+ Current design.
+ Maybe a Liquid metal back in place of glass?
+ Maybe a slightly bigger screen in the current case?
+ Upgraded processor
+ Upgraded cameras
+ More battery life
+ RFID
+ 4G
+ iOS 5

I mean really... what else you going to add? Kitchen sink? It's a smart phone that's pretty darn smart already.

Kitchen sink is so 20th century.... I was thinking induction stove top. The Glass back will be not just a cover any longer, but you can cook meals :p
