nice 3gs cover that.

I'm hoping the iPhone 5 is all screen though (apart from the earpiece of course), what with gestures coming in and all.

...So, Which tech site will be sacrificing ALL its future appearances at Apple events in order to bring us the exclusive this time?

I like the look of iPhone 4, and I'm expecting iPhone 5 to be just a improved specs update (like iPhone 3GS was). However, iPhone 4 have had some durability issues and the antennagate, so I wouldn't be that surprised if they changed the design. iPad 2 and iPod touch have similar design, so it would make sense for iPhone 5 to be that kind of design too.

Also, Steve is known for his obsession for thinness, and by replacing the glass backside with aluminium they could make the iPhone a little bit thinner.

Wouldn't it be more difficult to hold it horizontally, when there isn't place for your thumbs to rest? When I'm holding iPhone horizontally, I always keep my thumbs resting next to the touch screen.

My prediction: the iPhone 5 will be to iPhone 4 as the 3GS was to the 3G. Same external appearance, simply upgraded internals.

- A5 chip
- 1GB memory
- 64GB capacity (one could hope)
- improved antenna
- maybe slightly increased battery, but unlikely
- HDMI 1080p out like the iPad2

I would be very very surprised if we saw any more than that. Perhaps more of the changes will be in iOS5 to keep it up to date with the other OSs (not that it's lagging behind atm). It'll be iPhone 6 in 2012 where we see another generational change.

Ugly mockup

I think the iPhone 5 doesn't have a home button anymore. (at least not on the front)
Also the iPhone 5 would have a larger screen I guess.

How many different ways are there to house a rectangular touchscreen? Once you go through a few generations, you're bound to start repeating yourself.

Are you old enough to remember the complete evolution of the iPod mini/nano…?

I've been hearing that the home button was vanishing. What about a home-buttonless mock up? It would be interesting to lose a button in my opinion.

If you don't want you phone to get scratched, wrap it in a case that covers over the design. That way, whatever design Apple come up with doesn't matter as you cannot see it!!!

I just hope that they make one that does not suffer extreme damage from the slightest of drops. I have friends who dropped their iphone4 and chipped the corners of the glass. Glass is the "worst" thing they ever could have made a phone from. Idiots! You have to get cases to protect it from damage which defeats the purpose of the original design.

If the aluminium iphone is correct then that would be just as damage prone, but dent instead of shatter.

We need an iphone that deploys airbags when it senses that it has been dropped... or has a propeller that deploys to make it fly so that it doesnt even drop.

Back to basic... *wink*

The aluminum design with rounded back was far more elegant and organic. I love it. How it works with the hand makes the design go beyond a utilitarian device, almost becoming a comforting tactile experience similar to baoding balls. It would be a good choice to return to.

I say we will not see 1GB memory, but the battery will improve a bit and perhaps there will be Thunderbolt integration?

Let's face it, sync takes ages!
