If the iphone 5 is anywhere close to that then we know Apple is phasing Ivy out. Looks like some intern designed these things. Awful!!! I'll keep my iphone 4 thank you very much.

There is absolutely no definitive proof that they are ditching the glass back.

Too much like the 3Gs.... would be a step backwards. I don't see it. I could see them getting rid of the glass back and go for liquid metal, but not a total redesign. IMO it's not needed. The iPhone4 antenna is fine. But dumping the glass back would help them reduce breakage... a good thing for everyone.

There will not be Thunderbolt on the iPhone.

How are you able to say they won't integrate it with the "A6" processor? If they need the HDMI-support it would be easy to implement Thunderbolt too (HDMI bandwidth is already in 5-10Gbps class).

iPad is using A5, which was already designed way before Thunderbolt was released.

Apple having close relationship with Intel and Thunderbolt i would see this could be possible, or is it?

Why you think so? Perhaps it could be a port acting both as USB/TB?

You won't see Thunderbolt on anything with an ARM processor because it's PCI-e. If I remember right it currently requires an Intel processor. Could it just be a connector? Sure. But I bet the component is much too big for an iPhone at this point.

Size is likely the reason why you won't see it any time soon. That's why they ditched FireWire from the iPods.

I know it's just a mock up, and that it wouldn't work as is because of the antenna problem, but... it's pretty!

I wonder if it would be possible for them to make the Apple logo on the back out of plastic and have the antenna there? Probably not a big enough area though.

The look of the iPhone 4 will be hard to top. But I thought the same thing about the 3G.

If the real iPhone 5 is anything like that mock-up, its UGLY I'll hold onto my iPhone 4.

I'm not teribbly worried as apple has not generally disappointed me in their designs

I love picking up idevice cases on the cheap when redisigned models are announced. I have some great ipod touch and ipad cases. It's great to have spares. I've never paid full price for one yet.

I definitely can't see them going to a shiny metal like the iPod Touch has. Especially not for the glass scratching. The chrome on the iPod Touch shows scratches like no other! However, it is possible maybe they will use the same type of material metal that is on the Macbooks. It seems more scratch resistant (doesn't show them) because it has a pre-scratched and dotted surface almost. Not a shiny surface. It probably would look pretty cool too, and tie in the entire lineup.

I just want it to have a flat back like the iphone 4 so I can put a protector on it easily.

I hope this is the design for the budget iPhone.

I want the iPhone 5 to be a little slimmer, slightly larger screened iPhone 4. With an 8mp cam and improved sensor & A5 processor. That's literally all I want changed. The design, as it stands, is unrivaled.

THIS mock up is a step back and devoid of any imagination. I'm not surprised a few people on here like it. They'd like it if Apple came out with a black plastic HTC type thing with a slide out qwerty keyboard for goodness sake!!

jctevere, agree with you.

But I'm hoping that they go carbon fiber with at least one product.

I actually really liked the glass backing, sure aluminum is more durable but the mock up resembles the iPod Touch which looks horrible from the back imo.. I don't mind Apple using Aluminum as long as it looks good, but I've gotta feeling Apple wants the iPhone 5 to be thinner, which is why they are making a curved backing..

I say BS. I iPhone 4 looked nothing like the original iPad so why should iPhone 5 look anything like the ipad2? Every time apple slightly redesigns one of their products you always get loads of mockups of all their other products looking the same... Ipad and iPhone have totally different functions, so their forms have evolved (and will continue to evolve) in separate directions. Just my 2c...

Seems pretty odd to me that a product that just got a complete redesign less than a year ago, will be redesigned again.

Theoretically a curved back takes more space then a flat one. You can't fit the thin ends the same way you can with a flat back.

All in all I think the era of smudged corners is fading. Design-wise I welcome the new tendency of having much more squared corners.
