Mine is not broken but is damn slow. Takes forever for anything to load. Making phone calls is the only thing working normally.
I am with you, just announce the damn phone, I am buying no matter what. :D

I have iphone 3g and iPad 2, you guess:) on the same boat here

That would be great to see. All analysts charted for accuracy over the last 5 years to see just how bad they really are with predictions.

Also, what ever happened to everyone talking about Apple adding NFC to their phones?
It was pure conjecture. There's a lack of standardization for NFC that seems to be hampering rapid adoption. It has been implemented better in smaller, more insular markets such as Japan where the dominant mobile operator has said, "here is our system; this is how it will be."

The driver for NFC would be widespread adoption of a common standard in Europe by transit agencies. Until there is critical mass of agencies using standardized NFC over a broader marketplace, handset manufacturers will probably be hesitant to add component costs for something that may only be useful to a handful of people.

As for analyst accuracy, the pros are terrible. They can't even nail the two most important industry statistics: EPS and revenue, so how are they going to predict product roadmaps?

"Those cases also suggest that the iPhone 5 may be slightly longer and wider than the iPhone 4,"

Wow!! Really :eek::eek::eek:

yes Mac rumours, half an inch is ever so SLIGHTLY isn't it!! Morons. Try reporting the FACTS of your previous story's eh?

On another note, this is the best and most sensible rumour yet of the iPhone, even the people leaking the rumours state a similar sized iPhone to the current model is the most sensible path........

Sounds perfect. Announcement on Sept 20th - and launch on Oct. 1st. Moscone is available on the 20th, and that's a Tuesday :D

It is available on Sept 6th, also a Tuesday. This would give more lead time, since Apple likes to have 3-4 weeks between the announcement and the launch.

Either you're explaining it wrong, or I'm mis-understanding you. ;)

What you're describing sounds like resolution dependence to me. The aim/goal of resolution of resolution independence is to keep on-screen items the same size, regardless of the resolution of the screen. So in the case above, the box would be 1" on both the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5.

(This is all probably moot - since I don't think iOS supports non-integer multiples).

Someone who is a developer for iOS should probably answer this, but my guess is that the 'resolution independence' that Apple is claiming is likely 'independent' in the sense that it will accommodate all iOS devices because all iOS devices are integer multiples of 320 x 480 (prior to iP4 - 320 x 480, iP4 - 640 x 960). If true resolution independence had been implemented, Apple would be entirely unrestricted in their usage of various screen sizes - but I don't think this is the case.

Apple is very good at releasing new devices in time for people to buy them for the holiday shopping season (about 50% of electronics are sold during that period of time each year). October 1 would be about right time to start the advertising campaign (maybe even earlier for the ads) and get people saving up/planning for that new expensive phone gift. If you're too late to the party people have already bought/decided on something else. Remember the disaster that was the Microsoft Zune? They released that thing way too late whatever that year was.

Spending $500+ dollars on a phone that does not include the latest technology. Its hard to justify spending $500 dollars on something that does not include the latest and greatest tech, especially if the only change is form factor based.

I understand the desire for the latest technology, but it can't do any good with such poor 4g coverage in he country.

Fair enough; I got 1141 by multiplying 3.5" x 326 ppi. But either way, my point is the same: to make a bigger screen, either the resolution drops or the number of pixels increases.

Several people have pointed out that a 3.7" screen would have a resolution over 300 ppi (which is what Steve Jobs claimed was the magical "retina" threshold). This is true, but it still represents a drop in the display resolution of the iPhone. I maintain that this is unlikely. The Retina Display has been out for over a year now, and while few if any other manufacturers have caught up with it, you can be sure they're trying. Is Apple going to lend them all a hand by not only not increasing the resolution of the next iPhone but actually decreasing it?

Look, I'd love a bigger iPhone screen too. I just don't see it happening.
1. It would be nice if they make it 720 pixels wide (1024?? X 720) which seems likely.
2. Based of the bezel size, and reported 0.5 inch wider, this may keep approx same PPI as IP4.
3. Developers may not need to be informed if apple can keep old apps centered then they will look slightly smaller on the screen.

I wouldn't be surprised to see apple increase the screen to 4", especially if the cases are accurate, suggesting about a half-inch taller and wider phone. It could still be a retina display if they use a resolution that is already in use: 1024 x 768. The screen would be about 3/8" taller and 1/4" wider than the iPhone 4 and resolution would be about 321 ppi. This is all assuming the same aspect ratio. Also, apps could be letterboxed on the screen using the Retina resolution for the 4 until implemented by the developer.

Just my two cents.

Hoping it will be a complete redesign, dual core A5, more RAM, bigger screen. Also hoping Apple will design a really cool case for it. Regardless I'll be buying it whatever the spec lol :) I've bought every iPhone to date so not gonna stop now :p

Those hoping for 4G/LTE will be waiting for at least 2 more years. Apple won't add it onto the iPhone until the coverage is as widespread as 3G. Also they won't put in 4G until their major markets around the world have adopted the technology too. They don't want to be having 2 production lines like they currently do with the AT&T and Verizon phones, hence they are switching to a single chip which will allow the new iPhone to run on both networks.

For instance I'm in the UK and our networks won't even begin bidding for licences until next year with 4G devices expected early 2013.

Looks like you copy pasted what I said in earlier post (just kidding :) )
Yeah, I agree ...also, given pixel counts matter so much, think they would be very thoughtful in selecting pixels this time, so it seems 1024X720 is more likely.
That would be in sync with ipad 2 too.

Shaw Wu (at best) regurgitates existing rumors...
This may be valuable to his clients, but there's nothing new to user's of MR; we've already seen the rumors Wu is repeating.

I think it makes sense, really. Don't add something to the device that will invariably increase costs, and that won't really have an impact on a majority of your customers. How widespread is 4G/LTE? How widespread will it be in a year?

Granted, I may be singing a different tune if I lived in an area that offered it.

Same could be said about Apple implementing USB or adopting 802.11n before it was in widespread use.

I don't see why Apple can't go with a 4" screen at the current resolution...

It will be < 300 ppi... so what?

Is 300 ppi really a magical number? I know that's how Apple defined a "retina display" when the ip4 came out, but let's please understand that there was a lot of marketing mumbo-jumbo in there. "Retina display" is a marketing term that Apple made up so I don't know if we really need it to have a fixed definition.

The real meansure of the ip5 screen should be:

Does it look great? Do apps look great running on it? Does it look at least as good as the ip4 screen?

If so, then the exact ppi, "retina" and resolution won't really matter.

From what I can tell from the pictures, it appears that the iPhone is going back to a tapered 3g/s like form factor rather than continuing the iPhone 4 form factor. I kinda liked the 4's form factor better.

Just a slightly bigger screen??????????????????????

That means 3.7. Thats not a good upgrade enough. It should be at least 4.

Are we gonna have to wait till iPhone 7 for a 4 screen? Because if the iPhone 5 comes with a 3.7 screen then iPhone 6 should come with the same size screen too. They are not going to change it again just one year later...

In YOUR opinion it should be at least 4.

In my opinion, not everyone wants their mobile phone to be of miniature tablet proportions. Some of the Android handsets look ridiculous as phones, you know, making phone calls with these giant slabs glued to the side of your face.

More people want a 4 inch.

Its really not that big if you don't have those huge bodies that the Android phones have.

They don't only have a huge bezel,...they have a lot of extra body around the screen

upgrade cycle

Does anyone remember/know how AT&T upgrades work? With the change in release schedule it seems like people who got iPhone 4s when they came out will be about 14-15 months in when the 5 comes out, and who knows when the 6's is going to be. I'd like to hold off till iPhone 6 but if that turns out to be 2 1/2 years since I got the iPhone 4 that may be a rather long wait...

The major metro's have pretty good coverage though and LTE is expanding everyday. I understand why Apple thinks it shouldn't however for the consumers is it really fair to expect them to continue to pay a premium for products that aren't on par with the competition (and then sue the competition for copying you!)

If the iPhone 5 comes to Sprint with 4G I'd buy it in a heartbeat. My issue is I love WiMax and love the speed! Either way I hope Apple comes to Sprint soon I wouldn't mind a new iPhone (my EVO is ready for retiring!)

Don't like the control apple puts forth on the iPhone

Don't like the 50 billion different versions of android on the market

...still waiting for a smart phone worth updating to.

The answer: jailbroken iPhone. That's why I won't be rushing to any store when the new iPhone comes out - rather, I'll be following comex and the other brilliant hackers around to wait for them to come out with an untethered jailbreak. The iPhone's value to me is much, much greater when jailbroken, to the point where I would not buy unless I could do this.
