Lines under one account work independently of each other.
In other words, your brother has 1 line under his account right now.
Ask him to order the Pixi, go to the Verizon store (ask your brother to go to a Verizon store), and add a line to his account (with your Pixi). This will not affect his line, and he will still be able to cancel it by paying the ETF for his phone. His ETF would be no different whether you added a line to his account or if you didn't. Once he cancels his line, the whole account gets transformed into a individual plan instead of a family plan (Makes sense, right?).
Then I believe you will be the owner of the account (well you're going to need to call Verizon to transfer the account ... or whatever Verizon has to do ... but you'll be fine).

well is transfering the account easy? I mean he is in SF I am in LA. It would be a total mess up if he had to come or I had to go.

I'm not sure to be honest. I would ask your brother to call and simply say "I have an account with Verizon, but in a few months I will be moving out of country. Will I be able to transfer my account to a family member (who does not live near by) and how would we go about doing that?"

Yea whatever I will try this. If it doesnt work. Ill go complain at VZW later when I get in the US and just somehow transfer it Wish me luck.

Good luck. I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. There's no way that the account will be stuck in limbo :D

:)

And you're in Sydney? You seem to be well-informed on Verizon. My father has an old BlackBerry that I forgot about and I could use that, but I still think I will purchase the Pixi tonight/tomorrow. Trying to browse the web on a BB is horrific, I'd rather get iPhone-type use for the next 3 months.

Haha, have you seen Finding Nemo by chance? :D
(btw, I'm not in sydney :) )

I would certainly pay $40 to get the Pixi. It could probably do many more things than an [old] Blackberry. plus, it'll make a nice spare phone to use in case you need it.

Nope, I haven't seen that movie. And yeah, sparing the $40 or so for the Pixi isn't a big deal to me. Especially when I can use that data so much more on it over the next few months.

Ahh, well P. Sherman 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney is a completely made up location in real life, but it was there in Find Nemo.

Plus, with a new phone, you always get that "heck yeah" feeling:) completely worth the 40 bucks, haha. (or do people not get that feeling anymore? lol )

I get that way. By the way, Newegg says the phone may or may not come with accessories ... but I think I'd be okay.

I think so too. I can't imagine them sending you a phone without the charger, and that's really all you need (beside the phone).

Thanks for your help. I was a bit wary of doing it last week, but now we know for certain that Verizon will let you keep the plan on the upgrade. I'd be surprised if other people in my situation weren't doing the same thing. I just became eligible for my phone upgrade on Friday, too.
