300PPI is not the measurement for what a 'retina display'. Jobs talked about a "magic number" around 300PPI

300DPI is the magic number and the self-proposed required measurement for Retina display(TM), for the viewing distance quoted by Jobs for the phones. While it's a silly marketing word (hello "Emotion Engine") it's not entirely without merit. My question was a hypothetical joke that if it's 299.XX, will Apple round up the number to make it 300DPI and call it a Retina.

Well, you hit the nail. Though I am very very happy with my new Galaxy S2, the battery it drains is mind blowing. When using it like it should (mailing, surfing, phone, ..) it holds barely 1 day maybe 1.1/2 days.
My iPhone4 gets easily 3-4 days.

Anyway, I did the switch to Android now and still very happy doing so.

Are you sure, my iP4 lastet 2 days average.

Yesterday i got the original Samsung 2000mAh battery replacemant for my Galaxy S2, now i get 6,5 hours display on within a day standby.

6,5 hours with internet, watching movies, angry birds, whats app, calls,....

This with everything on except bluetooth, wich i only activate if needed.

they can have their 5 minutes of glory...

apple is going to crush them and this isn't a fanboy comment it's a fact...

Your iPhone lasts you 3-4 days? What do you do, stare at it?

Yes, 3 days easy. Maybe it is because I only enable 3G when needed (polling mail, surfing, appstore,...).
But I do the same with the Galaxy S2 and it never last 2 days.

BTW I am going to buy the new 2000mAh battery soon to try. Doesn't it make the S2 thicker?

Sorry to say but that IS fanboy talk. Did you ever tried a good Android phone?

I had an iPad and used my macbook pro more.

I can only use my iPhone with a Mophie juice pack or it's constantly running out of power.

Agreed that the note isn't a normal phone and not for most people. I'm 6'5 and am constantly on my phone or working or entertaining myself with it.

Battery life is a HUGE concern... Though... My guess is Seido or someone like Mugen will come out with a HUGE battery back to hook onto the Sammy Note. I'll carry around a big ass device WITH a huge price... if it has a BIG screen, is still pocketable AND the battery lasts me a VERY FULL DAY.

VERY FULL DAY = Cross country flight with meetings on each side, playing games, watching movies and a LONG layover.

Funny, I mention "retina" to my wife, son, and a few folks at work with iPhones and they have no idea in hell what retina even is or what magic number it's supposed to represent.

All Apple has to do is make up yet another marketing term for what their new 4" display is and everyone will lap it up just like pudding.

Let's call it "Ocular".

"The general consensus is that Apple's new 4" "Ocular" display is amazing!"

have the first Galaxy S, but as a former Symbian and Windows Mobile user, I'm not really all that crazy about the customization of an Android phone. In fact I hate the fact that every ROM I try on my phone has some sort of little niggles that I have to sort through and no matter which ROM I pick, there's just something I want to spend time changing. In any case, jailbreak does all the customization I want for my iPad.

Exactly. Within every rom, I spend too much time customising it to the way I like rather than actually using it. The setup time for an android phone takes forever. Plus, I've used a couple different Android handsets with different roms, and I always had some issue or another (mainly freezes/slow downs). With IOS, I can actually get started using the device and if I want to customise it further, I have the option of jailbreaking. But everyone has their own opinions and this one is mine. If you disagree, that's fine. That's your opinion.

While I agree that the Galaxy S II is an awesome phone, I sure love mine, I am going back to iPhone when the 5 comes out.

The customization of Android is fun for a little while, and then gets kinda boring once I finish customizing. It's kind of like when the first iPhone came out and jailbreaking was so much fun with all the customization. After a while, at least for me, there comes a point where that fun wears of and I just want a fluid device and something that integrates with all my stuff, which is something I really miss with my iPhone. And nothing competes with the iPod app in my opinion. But that really comes down to the integration again.

I will be keeping my S II after I get the 5, so just in case I want to play with Android again I'll have something to fall back to, which is nice.

I never noticed it until I read this comment, but this is true of me too. When I got the first iPod touch when it was first released and jailbreaking was new, I used to use the most extravagant themes and continued to use flashy themes through the entire lifespan of the second gen iPod touch. However, now I prefer more simple things like just a simple/abstract wallpaper. I've gotten over the whole customisation phase that came when it was a new thing for me. I completely agree with the thing about the iPod app. I haven't found a music player that I like as much as the IOS music app.

ah, but it can be compared to the iPhone 5: as in 'here's the largest and the smallest high-end smartphones on the market'...

True but I mean I can't imagine many people considering and comparing the two. All my sisters have iPhone 4s and they all took a while comparing the iPhone 4 to the HTC Desire HD, Samsung Galaxy S2 and S, etc, but I don't think they'd ever compare it to the Note.

yeah they are sluggish, they lag, they run shovelware unless you root em...and they have malware...

hardware is horrible, cheap plastic everywhere, it doesn't seem like they are built with good quality overall... batteries don't last ****, you have to buy extra juice with some models... they are a pain in the rectum

plus..theres always risk when rooting it's not even 90% safe

if anything windows phone 7 is definitely the way to go... I'm sure it'll take off because it deserves it

Honestly... Apple has to SHOW ME THE SCREEN SIZE!!!!

I'm jealous of the 4.5 inch screens on the HTC's, I'm SUPER JEALOUS of the upgradable back cover and HUGE battery packs they can add to HTC's...

I have had EVERY iPhone less than two weeks after each was out. I love my iPhone, but the hardware is officially boring me. The lack of support for video format files is also a pain.

I HOPE the iPhone comes out with a 4.3 or bigger screen... or I'm probably going to shift away from the iPhone. I hate to say it. I don't want to say it, I already regret saying it...

The Note with a 5.3 inch screen, with the flexibility a stylus and a HUGE aftermarket battery would be enormous... I don't care. I'm 6'5 and 210. I can carry a big fat phone and watch video without squinting, pictures without zooming constantly, etc.

I know it won't happen... But I would LOVE an iPhone that size... I'll miss you simple, sweet and easy iOS. Take care of her gents. She likes it slow and easy.

Hate to burst your bubble but people that share the same point of view as you do are not the target customers for Apple.

Well, there's that little thing that the Samsung Note won't even come out until Q1 or Q2 of next year.

You've missed my point entirely. My point doesn't even take into account the phone's release date. I'm talking purely about the two products and how I don't think they're that comparable. Like when the iPhone 5 comes out there'll be a lot of people comparing it to the Samsung Galaxy S2 or some other similar phones, but I think for the average user this phone won't be comparable, at least not for long. Again I'm thinking about users like my sisters, my parents and most of my friends, a 3.5 inch screen is probably adequate for most of them, a 4.5 inch screen is more ideal for some, but a 5.3 screen will be too big for them, which is a shame.

I mean, if you're going to try to be a smartass, at least try to take a minute to appreciate the point I was making, especially in a topic talking about the unreleased phone.

I am a huge Apple user, having every iPhone since they came out, as well as 3 iMac's, 3 iPad's, iPod touch's and nano's, and an Apple TV ..... but......
....I to am actually looking to making a phone change unless the iPhone 5 screen is at least 4 inches.
Sure i like the ecosystem I have, but I usually use my phone for music, phone calls, and viewing video when I'm away from home and killing time, so the bigger screen would be a nice feature.

With all the large screen phones coming out now, I can't see Apple not increasing the screen size enough to keep their current users, and hopefully attract new users.

If you stand still....you get run over!!
