iPhone 5: WHY are people expecting it this fall?

Just a little confused by your question and the point you're trying to make. Are you saying that Apple isn't allowed to release a new phone in September?
I believe he was addressing OP's original line
"Ok, Apple always announces in June for things that come out in September, we all know this, right?"
He was pointing out that nothing has been released in Sept. making the above statement incorrect. Further to the point typically (except for the first iPhone) Apple announces the iPhone and at most a couple weeks later it's out.
Ok, my ADD kicked in and I forgot that was the OP's first remark. In today's world I only have a 35 second attention span and that has led me to forget things som.... Oh, I wonder what's on macrumors front page right now....
It's past mid-July and still no phone information, and I don't see August as a possible date.

When the iPhone 5 is released this year, we can all bump this thread with the links to the Apple website which have the iPhone 5 for sale.
Also, as a side note; I'm calling troll on this poster. Isn't it convenient that the OP hasn't replied to any of the posters in this thread to defend his argument?

So WHY are people so convinced the UNANNOUNCED iPhone 5 is coming out this year? Trade in your 3GS for an iPhone 4 and get over it. No one knows when the iPhone 5 is coming out. So stop getting your hopes up and STOP paying attention to all the rumors....

Just had to get that out. I'm just tired of people thinking a magical un-announced iPhone 5 will be out in two months just because the internet told them so. If the internet said you had to jump off a bridge and then hop around on one foot to make it rain would you believe that too?

Plus this just shows that (withe exception of the first gen since it was a totally brand new device) we've never gotten more than a months official notice of a new iPhone, so technically it's not going to be an unannounced device...
Like people have said above, it's called macrumors. It's fun speculating what new features might come out, when it's coming out, etc. everyone's technology aficionados here, and this is the proper venue for the rumors.
anyways, to my knowledge, the iPhone 5 might come out next year, but I'm pretty certain a phone will come out htis September. perhaps the iPhone 4S.

to the OP. it will be released in sept because of all the rumors. parts are showing up, att and apple increasing staff. the earnings call saying there is a shift. thats pretty obvious i would think.

I don't think anyone on these boards really knows. If I had to bet one way or another right now, I'd say it's going to be a 4s that comes out. The news about the A5 chips over heating and the no new case info that has come out leads me to believe it's going to be a 4s and not a 5. I'm hoping its a 5 though. I'll be disappointed if it's a 4s but probably will upgrade. My name is Chris and I have a problem....
I think if you assigned "heads" to 4s and "tails" to 5, then tossed a coin you'd have about as much of a chance of predicting what we'll see in September as anyone else.

Ok. You all are so confident. Show me the OFFICIAL Apple announcement of the iPhone 5. I want to see where they are getting ready to release a new phone. If I'm so wrong. Show me the indisputable proof.

I did just buy an iPhone 4, but that's because I WAITED patiently for a white iPhone 4 because that's exactly what I wanted. I have no interest in an iPhone 5 right now.

Apple will annouce it when they announce it. We can't control when that will happen. They don't announce "we're working on a new phone" but announce here it is and it'll be available on X date.
There was no proof apple would release a white iPhone 4 until April 27th. On April 26th if you would have asked to prove when / if a white iP4 was coming, no one could prove it until the next day. Rumors were pointing to it coming out, just like rumors are pointing to a 4s / 5 coming out in September maybe October.
