what is ATT Next?

ATT next, Verizon EDGE are like cell phone leasing programs like car leases.

Except most car leases make sense (total lease payments of cars vs cars value after term of lease).

The ATT Next and Verizon EDGE plans are predatory. You essentially have monthly device fees over 12 months before you are eligible for another device and you have to return the device. You pay more than 50% of the msrp of the phone and have to return it.

Mine did something similar, I was checking a few weeks ago, just to see if I was getting "early upgrade" pricing...

It said "you are eligible for full-no commitment pricing" but when I scrolled to the iPhone, it was at "early upgrade" pricing. ($250 above full subsidy)

If i buy the tmobile unlocked version they are offering on the 20th will that work for ATAT? Im not eligible for an upgrade and thats my only option.

Mine says "Congratulations! You are upgrade eligible. Check out AT&T Next which lets you upgrade to a new device every year with no upgrade fees."

Bought my 4S on launch day and waited for the 5S. :)

I am sure a lot of complainers at this point wouldnt mind that option lol

Yup. If you upgrade early with the discount your contract will be extended.
By 2 years or 1? Mine currently expires Sept 2014, which is a reasonable expectation of when the iPhone 6 will come out. If I upgrade now at the $399 price, will my contract be extended to Sept 2016? Basically, if I upgrade my phone every year, will my contract be extended for 2 years every time? That sounds like a bad cycle I don't want to get into...

I got the iPhone 5 last year at launch, so I was expecting to pay AT&T's earlier upgrade price, which was usually $200 less than full retail. However, I got conflicting dates depending on what method I used to check my eligibility.

If I did *639#, the text I received said I had to pay full retail or wait until September 2014 for an upgrade.

If I used the 'Check Eligibility' link on the Apple site, I see I can get an early upgrade on October 15th, 2013, which as I expected was $200 less than full retail.

But out of curiosity, I checked the Apple Store App which has an eligibility function, and it said I was able to get an early upgrade on September 15th, 2013, in time to buy the 5s at launch. I then called AT&T to see which date was correct and was assured September 15th is when I can get the early upgrade price.

I'll admit I enjoy getting a new device at launch, so this was good new. I hope this info helps others who might be in a similar situation.

Thanks, I had the same issue. I couldn't understand the Oct 15 date on the Apple website as I ordered the iPhone 5 at launch. The app shows Sep 15.

Are you on a family plan someone might have taken your upgrade

I purchased the 4S back on the release day and decided to skip the 5 and wait for the 5S. At the time, my upgrade eligibility from AT&T read...

Now if I dial *639# it reads...

Are you guys that waited for the 5S seeing the same thing?

I suspect this may have to do with how big your bill is. I bought an iPhone 5 on launch day and am eligible for an early upgrade. I'm also the primary line on a 5 line Mobile Share plan. Are the people who are not eligible on single line plans?

are you eligible for the 199 price or 450?

why would you buy tmobile version? different bands, your LTE wont work, you can go to apple store or att and pay the same $650 which is full price and use it on att, if you buy at apple it will be factory unlocked

It goes up to 24 months again. Meaning upgrading 20th of sept 2013 will put you on contract though sept 20th of 2015. In sept of 2014 you will be able to do an early upgrade. And again extend back to 24 months

I am not sure how but both my wife and I have iPhone 5's but my line is eligible for full discount pricing.

I'm extremely disappointed with AT&T right now...

I purchased the 5 on launch day and it is telling me to pay $649 unless I wait until September 29th, which will then get me an early upgrade at $449. It's 9 days and they won't budge... urghh

Corporate policy is to honor upgrades any time during the calendar month. Do all the stores follow/honor this? No. If you really want the phone on the 20th, my advice would be to go to whatever store you want to purchase it from, and explain your situation nicely, you should get taken care of.

I called AT&T and they said they could override it so I could be eligible for the early upgrade on 9/22 but they didn't have pricing yet. I'm assuming $449, etc like last year.

BUT, I'd have to order over the phone from AT&T. Lame.

The Apple App says Sept 15 for me as well but it's 2014.
Are you guys sure you're not overlooking the year. I got excited for nothing.

This is the same thing that happened me. They could move up the date from 22 to 20 over the phone and have it shipped. I asked the question if the ATT reps inside Apple store on launch date will be able to do the same thing? I would assume they could or they could call ATT and get it resolved, but I'm not sure. I don't want to wait almost a whole day in line to find out I can't lol. Does anyone know?

How would you know this information? I'm not trying to be rude, I just want to make sure if I camp that it'll be worth my time...

And should I be camping for at&t or Apple? I'd much prefer my Apple store. Maybe I'll go down this week to my store and ask a manager...

To check upgrade with att dial: *639# and hit call.

I got the iPhone 5 on launch date as well and ATT shows my early upgrade is available 9/22. I called ATT and they told me that they can move up the date of upgrade to 9/20 on the day of launch, but I have to order over the phone and then they ship it out.

Does anyone know or have any experience with the ATT reps at the Apple store on launch date? Can they do this at the store? The ATT rep on the phone said he doesn't know.

I would call or better yet, go to an official AT&T store (not an authorized reseller) and talk to them about it. They are usually much more up on things than reps on the phone.

Interesting. I'm a bit surprised that 2 days is considered alright but 9 is a stretch (especially after many years with at&t). I might give it a try tomorrow and see if a supervisor can help. I'd much rather get to camp in my Apple store rather than wait for it to be mailed :/

Just tell them you are going to cancel your account. It's amazing what those simple words will accomplish sometimes. :D

pre ordered a 5 64GB through ATT last year for $650 ($200 above full discount), out of stock for over a week, called to cancel. Went to Apple store and got the 32GB for $550. a few days later, got the supposedly cancelled 64GB version from ATT. Seems nothing happened to my eligibility date, so instead of returning it to ATT, I sold it for $800 (still $50 below msrp) since most of the 5's were all out of stock.

Just checked my upgrade eligibility date and its 9/26/13 for a partial discount. But this will be the first time I'm waiting 2 yrs. Not really enticing enough for the 5s, will wait for the 6 instead.
