IF YOU DONT WANT TO HEAR THE CLICK, just adjust the WAY you click.

I think it's fine, Idk whats the big deal. I can hear it but if I don't want to that much, I only click half of the home button and use the front screen glass for grip. try it out!

Lol "You're clicking it wrong!"

How ignorant of a post.

When you pay $600+ for a phone, it SHOULD be perfect. I don't understand why people like you can't understand such a simple concept.

How ignorant of a poster to think that a "clicky" button is a defect.

The click lets other people know that you have the most advanced phone on the market.

It doesn't matter how much you pay for something, it should ALWAYS be perfect.

Indeed, my family kept calling me stupid for complaining about the dead pixels on my iPhone 5s which they said you can't see. I did! I'm the one who uses the phone after all. Plus, as had been mentioned, especially for £600 it should be flawless. I had two 5ss with dead pixels so I've given up. Apple aren't getting another shot: they've blown it (pardon the pun).

I took mine in and got it replaced today. For me, the loud click was caused by something actually sticking. Sometimes there was resistance, and other times it was completely normal and silent. Sometimes there were a few clicks, other times there was none. My new replacement is normal like the other phones on display. It has noticeable clicking sound when I press down and when I release, unlike my 4s did. But there is a difference between what some people are describing here (that sound like my problem) and the "louder than other models" new iPhone 5s clicking sound.

Got my 5S today, week 44 model, and it definitely feels different from previous iPhone models (including the 5C) but I wouldn't say it's an issue for me. Maybe what I'm feeling/hearing on my 5S is different from what people in here are experiencing.

2nd device replaced today.....the guy noticed it as well and said it's definitely not normal.

To all those saying that they think it sounds cheap?

You are aware of the technology hiding behind that button.

Also think about it this way.

The best keyboards are generally those with individual microswitches.. They're noisy as hell, and they certainly aren't cheap.

Nope. Sounds cheap :D

Just like a diesel engine sounds raunchy

Which is why it's soooooooo disappointing that it makes a cheap and nasty "clack" sound depending on where and how hard you press it. Added to the power button rattle issue it feels as if Apple has dropped the ball with regard to attention to detail and build quality.

Also think about it this way.

Premium car manufacturers spend a lot time and money ensuring the doors on their cars make a satisfyingly solid sound when shut. This makes a difference because customers associate this attention to detail with good design and quality.

If its sounds cheap and nasty it is cheap and nasty in the customers mind.

I don't have any problem with the sound really. But the feel is too weird. When I don't use my phone for some time, the home button acts weird. It's like something is in its way when I press it, and after a couple of clicks it gets normal.

First click after a couple of minutes is really annoying.

Mine is the same way. The only thing I can think of is there is some kind of adhesive between the sapphire home button and the reader underneath that is separating.

Yup, there is a rather distinctive click sound. Not my 3s or 4s were this way.
I was worried it was defective, but i guess its about the same for everyone else.
But it does seem like it was made cheap.... Sigh

Has anyone gotten their home button replaced for this? I have to press very hard on my button and it feels like there's sand or broken glass behind it, after 10 clicks it goes to normal again. How long do you have to wait for a replacement?

I'm from Europe and bought mine in the US, so I'll bring it in next time I visit. Will I get mine replaced within 15 days?

Thanks

This captures the home button "clack" pretty well in addition to the loose power button.

Mine does the same thing. T-Mobile sent me a brand new one overnight, should receive it today. It doesn't bother me a lot but it bothers me that you can hear the loose power button clicking when you take videos if you're moving around. Unacceptable.

Also, inaddition to my loose power button, my home button feels like mush. I like that clicking noise the new 5s models make and mine does't really click, feels like it's been used for years and has no more spring left. Looking forward to my new device today.

Mine is exactly the same, but my screen also makes a slight squeaking noise if I press lightly on the right hand side near the volume/silent buttons. I'm Slightly worried!

It doesn't bother me, it's just a slightly higher pitch sound than my 5 made.

It' still a click.

The loose power button bothers me to no end though.

Off topic, but...

My iPhone made a slight clicking noise if I pressed down on my screen near the home button. Took it to the Apple Store and it turned out the phone was slightly bent, and it was replaced under warranty. You might want to get yours looked at.

I stopped using the Apple Leather case because of it. Constantly Pressing on the back of the iPhone just to get the case off might have caused the bend :( Who knows, it might be causing the home button to double click as well. Aluminum is nice and sleek and all, but probably not ideal for the potential abuse a phone takes daily.

Home button clicking loudly on 5s on the way up

I've got this problem on my iPhone 5s Space Gray. The home button seems to be making a loud clicking noise on the way up. Compared it with two other 5s phones: one other Space Gray - the clicking noise is not as loud and more uniform on the way down and up - and another Silver - also has a fairly loud clicking noise, but on the way down, not up. Accordingly, it appears that all 5s phones are different, not uniform. The loud clicking noise on the way up is annoying the living hell out of me. It's a Sprint phone; I also visited a Sprint store, and the staff memeber there was not able to tell the difference between my 5s Space Gray and another 5s he had on display. As a result, I have a tendency to think this is more likely a flaw/oversight in the phone design, not a "normal" feature of 5s like some have commented earlier on this forum.

Has anyone had a positive experience bringing their 5s to an Apple store and exchanging it to get rid of the issue for good? Or do they all click? I'm starting to really consider a visit to the Apple store.

I'm really starting to miss the simplicity of the old standard home button.

The first 5S I had was great for a while. No loud clicking. Then randomly one day, a couple weeks after getting it, it started making this horrible crunching sound, and the click started feeling very uneven. I took it to the Genius Bar for a fresh one.

This one has had a loud click at certain angles from day one. And now the sapphire crystal has developed a wiggle.

For lack of a better way to describe it, the button feels, dirty. I feel like dirt is getting trapped inside, and around the edge. It feels oily too.

I don't now why Apple couldn't implement touch id into the old design. When I saw the blow apart animation of the new button assembly, I immediately thought to myself, man this has way too many parts, and is going to fail.

I love the speed of the new chip. Touch ID is a real time saver and I would seriously miss it. But I have considered selling my 5S and going back to a 5 because the button is driving me nuts.

I have the same complaint with mine. I'm on my 4th one and they all have had problems related to the button. My first one it was literally miss aligned and getting stuck under the glass. My 2nd one I exchanged because not only was the button over sensitive the screen at the top was cut in a slant so it looked like it was running uphill from left to right. Got a 3rd replacement and that same day ended up back in the Apple store because my iMessage wouldn't sign in and the "genius" couldn't figure it out after screwing up my contacts and other various things that had nothing to do with iMessage and swapped it out again. I've had this one just a little over 2.5 weeks and I've noticed that grainy, sticking feeling when first pushing it. Also if I lay my thumb on it and barely touch I can notice an increase in slack for lack of better terms. The button moves and I notice you can barely depress it and it doesn't respond. Takes more to push it then my 5 did and I noticed that very same dirty, oily fill.

I partially blame myself for snatching up new technology that is basically publicly beta at this point. Notice neither new iPads have this type button so obviously at this point by the amount of people with complaints in this thread alone much less other forums and such Apple seems to notice the complaints at the very least. If I could have a 5 home button in my 5s I would do it in a heartbeat. Love the phone and the Touch ID but dislike the hardware button itself.

Only other complaint is 7.0.3 ran perfect for me, 7.0.4 has been nothing but problems.

Has anyone reported the issue to apple??

Mine has the same click and I thought it was normal. Has anyone reported this the issue to apple?
