Yep exactly. The 64bit A7 is not a little upgrade either, it's a cutting-edge processor that essentially nobody but apple is using and approaches desktop-grade performance. In fact, browsing on my iphone 5s is now as fast as an x year old laptop. If they put an A7X in the next ipad, it's going to freagin fly.

The camera is better than x year old digital camera. It has world-wide LTE bands.. etc etc.

what is X? 1999? 2009? 2013 :p

loving my 5S so far btw

Can't figure out how to post a simple reply. Priceless.

Can use your eyes to scan the quoted body for reply. Amazing.

To the contrary, sounds like you are trying to convince yourself of something. I can't say I would ever go out of my way to tell someone not to buy something that I have not even used. Whereas, I am just reporting on my experience, as I actually have both handsets - in hand.

I have heard this same argument made for every single iphone after the original. Lag is android thing, so upgrades are never about 'lag'.

Ironically, this new 5S does indeed improve every single one of those points; especially the web browsing, as the pages render at close to desktop speed.

Don't worry aka777, a year from now the roles will be reversed. SA Spyder will be on here gushing over the iPhone 6 and we'll be on here saying it's not worth the upgrade from the 5s for a mere 0.3" screen increase and minimal increase in real world speed :p

The year after that he will be back telling us the 6s is a worthless upgrade compared to his iPhone 6. Round and round the carousel goes...

lmfao. Realist ish I've seen posted here in a long time!

I am so satisfied with this phone, I haven't been so happy with a phone since the 4 came out in 2010. It's the first Apple product in a while that just works and meshes together in a way that an Apple product should.

Well, it's double the real world performance of the iphone 5.

Complete BS. You're one of those people that let's Apple tell them things they can see for themselves based on some arbitrary benchmarks.

If you've used a 5 and 5S, you'll notice that the 5S does NOTHING twice as fast as the 5. The only thing I've noticed where it's a marked improvement is in the camera.

Everything else, like launching apps, web browsing, playing most games, etc. is very close in performance.

I went for the 5C as technically it's the superior device.

Technically the superior device? :p

Lets see what you said in an earlier post here :
I went for the 5c over the 5s... It's all pretty much the same now anyway.
I just like the look of the C way better (so much so that I bought one of each color, excited for the 20th!)

Anyway my point being, I didn't go for the C to save $100,
I simply like the C more than I do the S.
90% of my non tech family members agree.
C wins.

I get that you like the look of the 5c, but that is some serious kool-aid you must be drinking to think that year-old internals is better than the current flagship ;)

*Thumbs up* iPhone 5S - huge upgrade over iPhone 5

Just wanted to say that the performance increase of going from the iphone 5 to the 5S is huge.

So for anyone who is on the side-lines and doesn't think it's a worthy update, the increase in speed of the 5S model is actually more than that of the 4s to the 5.

I think this is actually the best upgrade from any previous model or even generation so far.

Did you?? He said the difference between the 5 and 5S was greater than the 4S to the 5.

Did you read your own post

You:
4s to 5s is greater than 5 to 5s

Op:
5 to 5s is greater than 4s to 5.

OP is saying the difference is palpable, i'm saying if you're upgrading from a 5 its not. 5S is a good phone...but in my opinion you're not missing out on much if you're an iPhone 5 user, the differences aren't 'huge' in everyday use. However if you're a 4S user or lower then yes go for it.

I've only been using my 5s and iOS 7 for about an hour or 2 and I'm very happy. The one place I instantly saw the processing power was using cloudscrob to send play info to last.fm. On my 5 it would come up and say scanning. The 5s comes up and is already done scanning the second it is open. Touch ID is awesome. I haven't touched the camera yet which was the feature I was most excited about.

I love my 5S but I don't see any performance differences. Maybe in games, but apart from that, nothing.

You have got to love Apple marketing. I play with both demos at work, and there is no noticeable difference. Once I upgraded the 5 to iOS7 I really couldn't tell much difference. I had to keep looking at the home button to remember which one I was using. I love Apple marketing, because they are truly geniuses at getting people to believe catch phrases.

Just in case anyone was wondering about when I restored my back up-

The phone became very slow like my 5, and not instant like when I tried the ones in the Apple store. The solution to this was to reset all settings (NOT content and settings) and the phone ran just as fast as the Apple store ones. I was happy to be able to keep all my text messages and photos all while having a good battery and fast phone. Just thought i'd like y'all know in case anyone had this problem.

I just got a 5s myself. I added a new line bought the 32GB 5s . Went a bought a slider texting phone (pretty much the smartest dumb phone there is, no data plan required) and put it on that new line so that new line only costs me $10/mo.

I added this new line for my son since he's been asking me for a phone, so it made sense for me to do it. I see almost no difference in performance from the 5 which I've been using almost a year now. It's OK since I sold the 5 in literally 10 minutes, so I got a new 5s and put $200 back in my pocket :D

I do like the upgraded camera. Image quality enhancement is minimal. What I do like very much is the wider field of view of the camera, it's almost like going from 28mm to a 24mm. What this means is in a tight room, you can fit an extra 2 people in the photo.

If you have the iPhone 5, it definitely not worth the upgrade if you had to add money to do it. Even if you had an upgrade to burn, I'd save for it next year. But if you're in a similar situation as I am where you need to add a line to your account, then definitely take advantage of your carrier. Frankly I'm surprised they allow this (I called them twice to confirm it's not against their policy, before I even finished my question they knew exactly what I was trying to do), adding a new line with a 5s then put a dumb phone on that line. That $10/mo x24mos doesn't even pay for their $450 subsidy to Apple...

PS I'm glad I added a line for my son, it's nice to be able to communicate with him anytime while he's at school.

Hmm, I don't feel like my iPhone 5S is that much faster than my iPhone 5. You don't really notice it that much except with things like launching the Camera , taking pictures in quick succession, or maybe playing a game like Infinity Blade III. It's faster yeah, but it's not something I'm blown away by. I guess because when I went from my iPhone 4 to 5 (skipping the 4S) it felt crazy fast but for this upgrade it's not really that noticeable. I was running iOS 7 on my iPhone 5 though so maybe that's why I don't feel like it's that much faster ? I'm not saying that the 5S is slow or anything, it's actually really fast and never laggy, I'm just saying that it doesn't feel immensely faster than my iPhone 5. I still love my iPhone 5S though and all the other features, especially the improved camera.

I agree, it's a little faster than my 5 in everyday use and the TouchID is cool and I like the gold and the new camera, but I wouldn't have upgraded if I didn't have an upgrade on another line available. It's a no-brainer if you can upgrade without cost, but having to pay a large ETF to get it? Waste of money. It's better but not that much.

Yup, I only upgraded from my 5 because I had an extra upgrade and it was basically free to do so.

Every iPhone has been outstanding for at least 2 years, more likely 3-4. No shame in keeping your iPhone for years.

The jump from iPhone 5 to 5s is simply gorgeous. Incredible some say - like the OP. Well you did go through alot to get that sweet device and might as well brag about it. :)
