For 1 update a year, you would think the supply chain king would have his house in order. If not, don't announce the damn thing.

I can hear the earnings call now- supply constraints and channel inventory hit the bottom line- iMac all over but at its largest flagship item.

its a joke really

But we all know Tim has millions of these stored in a warehouse somewhere. /s

I'm glad those people who want their iPhone 5C(andy) aren't seeing these kinds of delays. I mean, they were saying the 5C was going to "sell like hot cakes" and "be wildly popular." I'm glad they won't have to wait as long for their unapologetically plastic iPhone.

The rest of us knew this was coming. The 5S will be wildly more popular because it's a wildly better device.

Please don't throw out stock shortages and wave your finger at me, " But nobody knows how many 5C phones were in supply." We know---a lot! Apple has been making the 5C since the summer of 2012, when it was the iPhone 5; now it's just faster to manufacture.

I think it is cool that the 5s started selling in other countries before the US. Helps the world market image of the company and sticks it to the silly ones who think the US should get everything first :D

they may get to order first.. But they will be delivered first in the US I am sure.

Last year, I ordered one at 7:30 AM EDT and still got one shipped within a week. Will this year be worse?

As I commented in a previous thread Apples no preorders for the iPhone 5S followed by controlled leaks of tight supplies and now this are all to get people lining up. It has been years (iPad 2 launch) since there were crazy lines for an apple product so I am not surprised that Apple wants to get back some of the thunder and the free publicity that having stupid long lines provides

No that is ridiculous. Apple wants to sell as many as possible and would do pre-orders if they could. It does not help them financially or reputation wise to not sell as many as they possibly can.

While you are being wrong about that you are completely wrong about no lines for Apple products since the iPad 2. Laughably wrong.

I wish there were still DOWN votes.

Just got this mail from O2 in the UK which says..

"Everyone loves a new iPhone, so demand always outweighs supply. Because of this, you can order your iPhone 5s in store on launch day and collect it at a later date – you won’t be able to take one home straight away."

Looks like little or no stock for most shops here too.

I think the priority is always on the U.S. for Apple's launch day. We will have millions more than other countries. For me, I'll try to walk to an AT&T store on Saturday...

Am I reading this correctly – there were zero phones that were avail to ship immediately? They all just showed up with delays already?

As a US citizen, I agree and am fine with it :)

Doubtful. The stock market does not like it when supplies are constrained, and will punish Apple for it. Anyone who thinks selling 500,000 phones with pictures of long lines is better than selling 1,000,000 phones is being silly and not thinking it through. Pictures of geeks lined up in front of Apple stores might help sell another 50,000 phones to geeks, but the majority of Apple phones do not go to people who wait in line, they go to people that are annoyed if the website is down, slow, or Apple is out of stock.

I honestly believe that supply is constrained.

Now, it could be that Apple will not have perfectly predicted the sales in every region, and with a little post launch-day shifting can get phones to markets that are selling out faster. Also, the production per day is only going to ramp up, so I suspect in about two weeks that the orders won't be backed up two weeks.

But, I'm not an expert :)

Carrie or Apple website

So ... based on shortages, would it be better to order online at the carrier website or the Apple website? Does it make a difference in shipping times?

iPhone 5s Orders Launch to 7-10 Day Estimates

If it is like last year when the 5 came out shipping dates will increase quickly. Last year preorders started September 14th, with first day of sale the 21st. I ordered from Verizon on the 15th and received it october 1st. So shipping dates quickly increased to 2 weeks, or 10 days after they went on sale.

I'm going to give the local cell store a shot in the AM. I have never actually been turned away from a ATT or Verizon store on the first day.

LOL!

But what about Apple do they limit 1 per customer too?

I was in luck, I was out of town in a small town of about 25,000 people in the middle of nowhere. Got it on the same day. :)
