I am also still experiencing this issue. It was the first thing I checked when upgrading to 8.1.1. It seems to only effect people with 1200+ songs in their music library. Something is wrong with the way it indexes music.

That is not correct. I only have 244 songs and I have the bug. Certain songs take over 15 seconds to display the result.

I went to the Genius Bar about this issue and they said Apple was aware of it..... hopefully they will fix it. I'm surprised it hasn't been a bigger deal... it's extremely annoying.

I apologize for the incorrect information. It was a theory I got from slowly restoring the music to my phone from a fresh restore and I did not notice the issue much until I got to about 1200. My friends' and co-workers' phones also work fine and they have less than 1000.

I still have issues with search in IOS 8.

A lot of times I can't find the app I want, and after I wait some seconds and minutes it appears on the search result.

Apple needs to fix this issue because you can't find your own apps inside your iphone or ipad.

For me what seems to kill it is if I'm doing a web search in Spotlight (by typing the full query and hitting the "search web" button. It'll start by trying to suggest results from my phone, but as the string gets longer it seems to just stutter and die, and will simply display no results at all (not even the search web button.) if I just close out of spotlight and come back about a minute later, it will usually sort itself out. It's made a spotlight basically unusable for me, and for years it's been my primary way of opening apps, finding content, searching the web, and otherwise navigating my phone. Now instead of just pulling down, entering my query, and being done, I have to find Safari, open it, create a new tab, go to the address bar, enter my query, and finally I can search. It takes 4 times as long and way way more steps. I miss Spotlight. It's especially grating since they hardly added any new features to Spotlight in this release, yet they still managed to break everything that was already there.

Bug still present in 8.1.3

I'm on 8.1.3 and I still have the bug.
Anyone aware of a radar issue for this bug ?

So I visited the Genius Bar again today armed with my laptop and my slow Spotlight iPhone 5s (takes about 8 seconds for results to show up after typing a word in whereas on iOS 7 results would come up instantly with each letter).

Showed the genius the 5S's slow spotlight, he said it was slow because I had over 4000 songs on it. I said it was fine in iOS 7 - results came up instantly.

I then proceeded to wipe my iPhone 5S completely in front of him and sync only 100 songs to it on the freshly formatted 5S. Spotlight was still slow with nothing but 100 songs on it.

He agreed to swap out my 5S for a replacement device, and we tried it again with only 100 songs. Same problem.

iOS 8 (even through 8.2) has something terribly wrong with Spotlight search, at least on 5S's. His iPhone 6 Plus, with 450 songs on it, had no problems with Spotlight.

Note: I use Windows iTunes to sync.

That's definitely strange.
You'd almost think one of your songs is purposely messing up your iPhone.
You don't have any Kayne West music in your library do you?

Perhaps a single song could screw up the library, but not likely when I sync'd only 100 random songs from a library of 4000+ and the problem still occurred.

I wonder if it's a problem with Windows iTunes...? Has anyone else experienced this problem been using Mac iTunes?

Just updated to 8.3, and now it's WORSE. Before it would take up to 10 seconds to show my music results, now it won't show them at all.

But at least we have racially diverse emojis!!

This is all I get when I search for "gaga" on my 5S after upgrading to 8.3. I have dozens of Lady Gaga songs, for example. I only have "Music" checked on my "Spotlight Search" options.

All jokes aside, I began to think this was possibly the issue a couple of months ago (Not the Kanye part). I'm thinking maybe one of my artist, songs, or another metadata field has a special character the search doesn't like. "IF" my music came from an other than legal source that could of course prove a problem seeing as there is no telling what people put in the fields that are not commonly viewed such as Album Artist (vs. Artist field) or Comments field.

I'll have to play with that when I have more time. I spoke to an Apple genius over the phone last month and they seem to have no record of anyone else experiencing this issue, not that I really expected them to. But I am performing the 8.3 update as we speak so hopefully a fix snuck into there whether by design or mistake.

re metadata causing problems, I tried syncing random small selections of my 4000 songs on a replacement iPhone 5S and it was still causing problems...

The update actually made things worse. Now I can't search for music at all. But atleast I got new emojis

Same here. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that none of my 4000 songs have come from the iTunes store?

I think it takes a bit to index the songs. It took about 10 to 15 minutes before I could type in artist, title etc and have the song recognized. But the response was instant.

Mine is just not indexing then! It's been hours since I updated.
