Hello everyone. Since I created this threat the bug has not been resolved but now since I updated to iOS 8.3 the problem is 1000x worse, now when I type more then one letter no music is shown at all, not even the Wikipedia / Google search apears. How did apple messed this up even more... Someone having the same issues?

Yes. No results.

For a test I enabled every setting on spotlight search. In 15 minutes my phone was indexed properly with instant results. I do not have 4000 songs, only a few hundred though.

I only have 246 songs. But is not just the music, now I can't even search nothing on web / Wikipedia... WTF is this?

----------

Yes. No results.

How did Apple made this even worse? And how the hell does Apple releases iOS 8.3 without checking this. I can't search any music ou any Wikipedia / web, I left my iPhone 5s and iPad 4 for 15 m and nothing showed on spotlight...nothing at all. Just the blurred background... This is ridiculous

I've been having the same problem with spotlight, first on my iPhone 5, and then on my 6+, once it arrived. I have half the search categories disabled, and the enabled ones above the disabled ones. 8.3 took it from slow to non-functional. My phone has been restored as a new phone (not from backup) at least once since I initially set it up.

8.3 definitely broke the Spotlight Music search for me. Here is an image of a search on my iPad Air 2 right before upgrading:

I'm hoping (praying) that these music searching issues have something to do with Apple's upcoming revamped Music app and that everything will be fixed in 8.4.

im amazing that it still isnt fixed in 8.3 , this is just a horrible bug makes spotlight USLESS, any of you guys found any workarounds or temproary fixes?

so are you saying that spotlight works fine if ALL the things in the spotlight settings is selected including mail, podcasts etc etc? then spotlight works fine in 8.3?

It doesn't for me. Music still doesn't show up.

I don't have podcasts and don't remember if I enabled mail, but I was able to get results for the other categories.

Fixed (at least on my own settings)
With the following scenario my spotlight search was taking 5-7 seconds to find Doors in music.
Songs: 2799
Spotlight options selected: messages, music, notes, contacts.

Then just for fun and after reading several posts I thought about this iPhone 6 on IOS 8.0: "wanna be slow?, I'll give you a reason to be slow..." Then I added mail to the selected spotlight options (my mail app is set to No Limit and it goes back to 2001)

Prepared myself a sandwich and when I was back spotlight worked really fast, it shows any song or artist or album as I am typing it including other results such as messages and mails. It is as if it used to do a search before and now it is really indexed. Looks like somehow I managed to force an indexing.

New happy settings:
Songs: 2799
Spotlight options selected: messages, music, notes, contacts and mail.

It's weird. It works with some terms and not others. 'perry' for katy perry works but not 'maroon' for maroon 5.

Ok, mine wasn't working at ALL, no results for music AT ALL. I just went into Spotlight settings and changed mine EXACTLY like yours. Spotlight search works now.

I had tried different combinations before trying your exact ordering and it did not force an index.

It literally only works for me when I have it like yours: Messages, music, notes, contacts, and mail. They are all checked, and they are sorted at the top of the list in that exact order.

It doesn't work every single time I search, but before I was getting ZERO results. Now it works about 80% of the time. Sometimes I have to search the same band name multiple times, or exit out of Spotlight and go back in and search again, but it does work somewhat now.

I tried this on an iPhone 6 Plus and iPad Air 2 both with iOS 8.3.

So, it looks like we may have something of a work around.

Somebody else please try it in that exact order and see if it works for you.

i tried the above but still not working properly, plus i dont want messages or mail in my spotlight search i just want apps and music.

Settings > General > Spotlight Search (and check or uncheck what you want)

Well, some good news... Spotlight seems to work somewhat better for me in iOS 9. I'd say it's resolved in this version but a few of the initial searches were slow and I don't know if it was because of Spotlight or the overall iOS. So far so good though.

Oh, and now there is a Spotlight option for every single app. So I had to go and toggle Spotlight off on 75+ apps

It seems insane to me that they just broke Spotlight for the entirety of iOS 8. I want iOS 7 back.
