Hey. I'm planning to buy a 5s soon and read about the issue with many displays having those scan lines, also called "interlacing". So I looked at one of my friend's 5s and it actually really had small lines on the icons.
My question is:
Do phones built in 2014 still have this problem? In some thread someone mentioned, that recently built phones might not have the problem anymore.

EDIT: Here is a video showing how it looks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGdPg1VUEeo
And please also look here http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html when exactly your phone was built! Thank you!!

Thank you! Actually I wanted only 2014 bought/built phones but still thank you! The problem is, I know that for example most C3 phones don't have the issue. But I want to know if now in 2014 the others still have the problem :)

Mine was ordered on release day...haven't had a single issue with it at all. There may have been a bad batch, but even if you do get one, Apple will swap it out...There aren't any supply issues I'm aware of now, so you should be able to just pick one up in store.

Yes but one is closed and the other is inactive. Also I wanted to focus on how it is in 2014.

Hm, well I don't really know, I read that many many people have issues and I don't want to have to replace like 5 times to get a good one :(

I know the OP wants to know about phones built in 2014, but I feel compelled to throw in my two cents.

My 4s doesn't have scan lines.

Interesting, thank you! Isn't 2014 built tho, so it doesn't mean much for what I'm trying to find out!

Don't worry, even though it's not 2014 built it's still interesting info!

I currently have 2 phones sitting right here. Here are the results.

Model introduced: 2013
Capacity: 64GB

RESULT: Massive, hurting my eyes vertical scan lines. Absolutely unusable. Pictures look horrible. Viewing angles from the side display huge color disparity. Horrible screen! Grade F!

Factory: DN (China, Chengdu - Foxconn)

RESULT: Noticable scan lines, but not nearly as bad as the phone mentioned above (F2 serial). Actually, this DN serial phone is probably the best ones I've yet seen. Great colors, good viewing angles. Will give this screen a B-.

We've got 2 Apple Stores here in town, I looked at every single phone there is on display, probably around 10-12 phones per store. Every single one has scan lines. I've never seen a perfect screen on the 5s in person.

I've gotten one phone on launch with scan lines, replaced it, got one with scan lines again. Then gave up for a few months and used my older iPhone to hold me over. Now I've returned and still scan lines on each phone...

Still love the speed and functionality though. Will keep it until the 6 comes out, then switch this one out for the new one.

I bought my iphone last month on miami, i swap a total of 5 iphones with that issue, the last one was the same so i just kept it but is a bit annoying. My girlfriend bought one two and it was the same as mine, but she didnt bother. The qc at apple is being the worst no doubt. But maybe my phones werent manufactured in 2014. Hope you get lucky.

Hm :/ That doesn't sound too good :( Thank you though!

Could you check when they were built? Thank you!!

just buy one and hope for the best, i dont think you can buy a new phone based on serial number, so whats the point.

I actually just want to know if it's still a problem with 2014 built phones?

Bought it yesterday. Not a 2014 build.. but really, it was only 2 weeks off. Really faint scanlines visible, but barely. I'm typically sensitive to that kind of thing. Not sure what I'm going to do -- I seriously doubt an Apple Genius will see it (not to mention the nearest apple store is 1.5 hours away). I could try returning it to AT&T, but that's a hassle

Nope, not that I can see. I bought it last week (got it today, thanks UPS).
