Apple will announce MOnday they have sold the most iphones in a weekend in the history of the company. Imagine the logistics nightmare to sell that many phones. The truth is demand is increasing and every year before launch weekend apple is increasing the time interval between production initiation and launch in order to increase inventory. The negative impact is increasing leaks etc. Now look at Samsung. it took them 100 days to sell 20 million of their s4 flagship phone. In the same time period apple sold 27million of its "outdated phones". Not to mention there has been a cliff dive in sales of the s4 just google it. Now lets see how long it takes Apple to sell 20 million iPhones
I am guessing two weeks at the most.
So although the simple and obvious analysis will come to the conclusion Apple is limiting supply for the marketing, a deeper analysis and actually looking at the facts of how many actual phones are produced and sold and consider limits in the supply chain and manufacturing the more logical conclusion is demand is outstripping production capabilities. (hows that for a run on sentence ;) )

Most people here seem to ignore all these.

Why does anybody believe this? Would Tim Cook rather you bought an iPhone or rather you went around talking about it? Do people who haven't bought an iPhone not talk about theirs? Is talking to your friends about the iPhone you couldn't buy somehow better than showing them one you did? What's the point of having all these people hear all this talk if you're going to pretend you don't have any for sale when they walk into a store? Its nonsensical.

As for making enough gold phones, we were reliably informed by posters here that a gold iPhone was a ridiculous idea and nobody wanted one.

There's a misnomer around here somewhere but its not the article.

Ad hominem, my post is not any less valid, yours just fails to contribute anything meaningful. However, I agree with your statement about supply, they were just basing it off of anticipated demand. They were short-sighted with the gold because they thought space gray would be the most popular, I don't think there's much more to that story really.

I ordered a AT&T 64GB on Friday. Visited the new Santa Monica store and picked one up after a 35 minute wait. They must have processed over 100 phones when I was there.

Also had no issues with Apple canceling my online order and AT&T reestablishing my upgrade eligibility within minutes.

I ordered my 64gb space grey on bestbuy.com at 12:00 am. Picked it up after work that day. Guess I got lucky. No lines, no waiting for shipping. When I got there people were being turned away on AT&T, they still had a few 16gb for Verizon.

Thankful for Beta Testers.... I learned my lesson via my 4S. I will wait this round.

Hahahaha, good one
Paying extra money over the iPhone 5 to get a thicker, heavier phone is an ineffective way of spending money. If you want the new colours then sure, the choice is yours - I simply wouldn't recommend doing so because you are spending money so ineffectively (but I guess this is the mindless consumer world we live in)

Call me crazy but I like the design of 5C better and it feels more comfortable on the hand. I like rounded corner desig much more. And yes, some people prefer other colours then just B&W. I would change my iPhone 5 for a 5C anytime.

Are you kidding me??

Marketing 101.. make your item more desirable by making it so popular you can't even get it. This creates even more marketplace buzz making the item even more desirable ( and free press)

This makes the increased cost of the 5S over the 5C seem more worth it.

this is why manufactures of all kinds of things ( car's motorcycles artwork .. so on and so on) have limited special editions.

Apple gets all the advantages of a limited edition ( increased desirability and marketplace buzz) ... without actually making a limited edition there for being able to sell millions and millions of them.

Bloody brillant .

It's not brilliant at all. It's the oldest and simplest trick in the book.

You're leaving Verizon for AT&T right as you get your 1st 4G phone?????!

*shakes head in disappointment*

I know. If I hadn't found out that AT&T has much improved where I live, I would've stuck with Verizon. My parents are both on AT&T, so I decided to get in with them on mobile share instead of using Aio Wireless. Had either of them had plans like T mobile! I would've gone there. AT&T means about $10 less per month with unlimited voice and text, plus free mobile hot spot.

Argh, I'm really sorry to do this again, but you also need to look up ad hominem too. I know its irrelevant to the discussion, but sometimes I just have to take a swipe at these things, otherwise in ten years we'll all be spelling it rediculous and claiming we could care less.

(oppsy)

Looks like we're also seeing delays already........ Isn't this just a common practice now...

Apple has a good reputation for doing this too. But hey, look on the bright side, at least xmas will all come at once when the next Apple event .. :)

Double the surprises.

(...umm,,, you think that was Apples plan all along? )

Anyone notice that as soon as they got rid of the down vote, this became a bash Apple site? Just saying.

The crazies and the trolls all upvote each other without any kind of sanity check by the population at large, so I'd prefer they just got rid of the upvote button too, or bring back the downvote so the trolls are no longer some of the most upvoted posts.

Order status down at UK store:

"We're sorry, but our Order Status services are extremely busy right now. Please try again later."

Aaargh...

I was very lucky - toting an old iphone 4 with a totally dead home button (although, it's a miracle that's all that's wrong with it seeing as it went for a 2+ minute bath in the Atlantic this summer) I decided I wasn't going to order instantly, as I wanted to see the various colours in person first. Made it out of work at about 8.30pm, headed to the local Three uk store (I'd decided to switch contracts from O2) and of course they had nothing in stock. Ordered the Slate Grey 64Gb, was told it would be in on Oct 18. Got a call yesterday afternoon, they'd sourced one, I could come and pick it up. Brand new, sealed box, no problems. Very happy.

Less pleased with O2, who took over an hour to give me a PAC code trying to persuade me to stay with them (and intentionally disconnected me once because the person I was talking with presumably didn't want to get hell from his superior for letting me leave them). Tempted to report them to Ofcom...

Its not really busy. They do that on purpose to make people want to check their order status.

i think there were focused on making lots of iphone 5c and forgot about the 5s

5C=China. 5C=China Mobil Deal. China Mobil Deal=Historic. I'd wager at least 50% of 5C's went to Asia.

5S will sell anywhere. I'm sure initial production rates are down a bit for QC.
November will be the Nuclear Numbers Month. :apple:

Think O2 are losing a lot of customers. I have two contracts with them, one of which is 'out-of-contract' end of this month. Bought an unlocked iphone5s 32 Gold (awaiting delivery) and will be leaving for Three PAYG unlimited data (3G) for £15 a month. Will get the new iPad with Three on 4G which they do at no extra cost and tether as required.

O2 has had two major network outages this year alone, plus expensive tariffs and now we are told its 4G network won't work with iPhones for a few weeks! Enough is enough.

Are you friggin' serious? So Apple is doing this deliberately! Oh dear. Perhaps you should stick with your 32-bit droid ice cream plastic mess and do your trolling elsewhere, although a switcher friend (who has just dumped his HTC One for an iPhone 5s) tells me mobile chrome is pretty slow compared to Safari on iPhone5 let alone 5s, so good luck with that.

So true!

The fact that the 5C is ONLY $100 less makes it a total rip off
There is no way that getting hardware 1 year old (and hence will stop being supported 1 year earlier) as well as missing out on all the new features is worth saving $100

Even for casual users I would not recommend the 5C since it will be obsolete a year earlier, so you would actually save money by using the 5S in the long run! (I would recommend buying a 2nd hand iPhone 5 to casual users though since they are much cheaper now)

Evidence for this please? I'm guessing the 5C will have a different firmware designation to the 5 and will receive the exact same versions of iOS as the 5S.

What this may mean though is that a hacked firmware will give the 5 an unofficial extra year of iOS updates.

He's joking about the discussion that Apple's doing it all on purpose to get up demand..

I went into an O2 yesterday to register for a 32gb 5s and was told 3-6 weeks !!!!! Went straight online and ordered the handset for delivery next Tuesday :)

...
iPhone 5c supplies remain plentiful, with all colors and capacities available to ship within 24 hours.

See .. just nobody wants the 5C when 5S costs only slightly more and gets you the whole shebang.

What an irrelevant product ;)

Would you do the same for 5S to 5C?

Let me guess ..

To be quite honest if it wasn't for the fingerprint sensor and improved camera I would do it right away. Becides, you are missing the point. iPhone 5 C is replacing iPhone 5 and not going head to head with iPhone 5s. It's like asking someone, would you get iPhone 4 or 4S when the 4S was out.
