To be quite honest if it wasn't for the fingerprint sensor and improved camera I would do it right away. Becides, you are missing the point. iPhone 5 C is replacing iPhone 5 and not going head to head with iPhone 5s. It's like asking someone, would you get iPhone 4 or 4S when the 4S was out.

That's why. If iPhone 5C also has A7 and Touch ID, I might consider one. It's too expensive for what it is.

iPhone 4 wasn't put in a garish colored plastic chassis when 4S was launched, was it? It's the exact same phone so people wouldn't cringe looking at the pricetag.

I really think Apple just screwed this thing up by releasing the 5C. They focused on a lower level tier instead of their top tier, which as we can see now, is severely constrained.

That is exactly why the did not screw up with the 5C. It´s low-cost to make, higher profit-margin, and easy to produce in big volumes. Most teens, and non-techies will jump for the 5C. The 5S is the real phone, the real advance, but it´s much harder to get a high yield and cost more to produce.

So the 5C makes perfect sense for Apple. It allows them to sell a ton more phones than they otherwise would due to supply, and profit. This is of course why Apple.com is advertising 5C and not 5S first, and it´s also the reason why the 5C was the only phone available for pre-order.

If they sold 5+ million phones in the first weekend of sales, this will be a huge + on their balance sheets.

smh. How much would the iPhone 5 be if Apple continued to sell it on contract? $100. Same as the 5c. And how old is the iPhone 5? 1 year. Same as the internals in the 5c. Yet you're sitting here saying you wouldn't encourage a friend to get the 5c, however you would tell them to get a used iPhone 5? Seriously?

What I mean is that if you insist on getting hardware that's a year old you may as well save as much money as you can - i.e. the iPhone 5 is cheaper than the 5C
Example: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/64Gb-Bla...t=AU_Mobile_Phones&hash=item3385bc5320&_uhb=1
That's $650AU for the 5 with 64GB, instead of $739AU for the 5C with 16GB - and that's just the first example I could find!

SO YES I WOULD RECOMMEND THE 5, SERIOUSLY

No need to deliberately misinterpret my words to try and take a cheap jibe lol

Yeah but the if Apple sells the 5 for $100 less this year, it wouldn't be made of plastic now, would it?

Everybody feels cheated with garish color and unapologetic plastic on 5C, that's the point.

Call me crazy but I like the design of 5C better and it feels more comfortable on the hand. I like rounded corner desig much more. And yes, some people prefer other colours then just B&W. I would change my iPhone 5 for a 5C anytime.

Yeah I sure love the design of the 5C too. If Apple had made it a true "value/budget" phone as the rumours had made us hope, instead of just a "hardly cheaper" phone, then I would have probably bought it over the 5S to save some dough.

Evidence for this please? I'm guessing the 5C will have a different firmware designation to the 5 and will receive the exact same versions of iOS as the 5S.

What this may mean though is that a hacked firmware will give the 5 an unofficial extra year of iOS updates.

Well think of it like this:

Can the iPhone 4 run iOS7? sure it can, just like the 4S
But the 4S runs it reasonably well, whereas the 4 lags like crazy

So even though the 5C may very well support iOS10 or whatever just like the 5S, it won't REALLY run it (and likewise the 4S will probably run iOS8 next year, but not suitably well)

hardware that is a year old will become obsolete a year earlier, it's pretty simple really :p

Bloody hell ***** * *****

You might want to edit out the last sentence of your post before mod call you out of name calling.

it happens every single year, you would think people would be smart enough to know it isn't because they can't supply it, it's because they choose not to supply it.

Why in the world would Apple do this when the one thing they need is a huge sales number they can announce on Monday? Wall Street doesn't care about long lines or websites saying "ships in October". They care about how many phones Apple sold. And it's kind of hard to sell a phone that isn't available. I don't know exactly how Apple counts sales but my guess is it isn't until the customers credit card is charged and in the case of online orders that doesn't happen until the phone is ready to ship.

We don't know that the 5 would have been $100. Maybe that was one of the reasons Apple switched to plastic, because the 5 design is still very expensive to manufacture.

I was at an Apple store yesterday and while I think the 5S design looks more premium and "classy" I really liked the feel and weight of the 5C. It almost feels like ceramic and it has so heft to it whereas the 5S almost feels too light sometimes. People can say its plastic and plastic equals cheap but IMO the 5C feels anything but cheap.

I smell the second launch wave with this october ship date. They're probably putting millions aside for an early october release and after that, the first wave will see new shipments...

mophie iphone 5S

Pieces like this (and not rehashed news or analyst ********) are the reason I come to this site. Amazing.

IMHO I really don't understand how Apple could not have foreseen this. I mean I've been on black iOS devices ever since, but with the the new iOS 7 design I think silver or gold are the colors to go for because they make the overall visual experience so much better. I'm up for a new iPhone in October and the silver 64GB version is the one I'm going for.

I made the mistake of believing targets "reservations", looks like apple cut target out of the initial shipments because none of the stores around me received any inventory. I should of went with my gut and taken the 1-3 day shipping online.

I also didn't believe in the Target "Preorder". I was 3rd on the list at my local target for a ATT 32GB Space Gray, and the store said I'll definitely get one on launch day. Well, 2 days after launch and I still never received the email that they had a phone for me. I'm glad I decided to order one at 3:00 AM Friday from Apple.com. Got expedited shipping and should get phone by end of week.

I was first in line at my AT&T store, (got there at 6:30am) they came out at 7:58am and said they only had Space Gray. I got out of line and ordered on line and went to work. I'll wait. No biggie, it's not much different from my 5.

Just seems to me if they wait until October for the release date they would have way more stock and happier customers. You can only inconvenience your customers so many times, I'm close to canceling for the MotoX. I think one of the iPhones in the past was released in October if I recall correctly.

Hahahaha, good one
Paying extra money over the iPhone 5 to get a thicker, heavier phone is an ineffective way of spending money. If you want the new colours then sure, the choice is yours - I simply wouldn't recommend doing so because you are spending money so ineffectively (but I guess this is the mindless consumer world we live in)

Also, you should perhaps read some of the other comments about the cost of upgrading every few years

Wow, you really are clueless about my meaning, aren't you? Look, I don't want a 5C, because that's not my taste. But having an open mind about what others might like is a better way to go through life than "knowing" what everyone else should do...

Anyone notice that as soon as they got rid of the down vote, this became a bash Apple site? Just saying.

No bashing here, just the truth. Economics make more sense with the 5c than the 5. Good for them

Woo-hoo. My order went from processing to preparing for shipment overnight.

I called Apple yesterday because I intended to do expedited shipping when I ordered, but forgot. I asked the CR how much to upgrade and she told me it would be $10-$16. I agreed to the cost. She put me on hold to process, then came back on the line a couple of minutes later and told me that she comped the charges. That's so Apple...

After 4 hours? How about 4 minutes.

>>>"The phone, which went on sale yesterday, saw shipping times of 1–3 days for the first four hours that it was available before estimates dropped to a seven to 10 day ship time."

The first 4 hours? I bought mine at 4 minutes after they went online, and it was 7-10 business days. Of course, I ordered the Gold Unlocked, so maybe that's why.

When and what model, color did you order? I ordered the AT&T 16gb gold expedited and my order status is still processing.

I ordered an iPhone 5s right after it became available with the Apple Store app, got the 1-3 day delivery with expedited shipping and just received the tracking number. UPS is going to deliver it here on the East Coast on Tuesday (9/24). It was not supposed to be here before Friday (9/27).

Why does that matter? If someone likes the color and feel of the phone more than the 5S, and wants the phone, does it really matter that it costs only $100 less? I think the basic logic behind your premise is flawed.

If someone is only bargain shopping, there is a case to be made for buying either the 5C or the 5S, depending on your needs for storage, whether that $100 is truly a big deal to you, whether you like/need the extra tech in the 5S, and/or several other factors.

But if someone truly likes the 5C better, then the $100 price difference is just gravy.

Cutting the luminium body of iphone 5s takes time, machine assembly takes time. Even they have hundres of cutting and assembly machine, not to mention the touch id sensor supply problems reported not long ago, you can imagine how much it takes to produce those milions of iphone.

And before you complain about low stock in the USA, think about the rest of the world. For Asia, South America and 90% of Europe, we dont have even a release date, and thats about one bilion potential customers waiting for the americans can get it on day one. So maybe, here in Spain, ill be able to buy iPhone 5S some 9 months before the release of iPhone 6. If you think the situation of the stock is bad for you dear americans, think again....

can those who got a 5S already (I see there are several in this thread) please comment on the touch ID performance. Any noticeable lag? how accurate is it?

Its amazing. It just works!!! as the saying goes. I use fingerprint scanners at work to get into secure areas and they are junk compared to what Apple put in their phone.
