What I mean is best illustrated by these images from around the web:

...as you can see, the home button stands out because its reflection doesn't match the glass. On the white models, you can't see the difference (because they're white).

I also think the black ring doesn't show up as much; I would have preferred if it was the same silvery-grey colour as the edges (because from those shots it looks like the ring is almost black)

However, I've got to point out that I'm basing this opinion on shots like these I've found around the web. Like I said, I'm still waiting for my one, so we'll see what it's like in person.

I see what you're saying but I think it looks linda neat.

I have had mine since launch day and like others mine is a LITTLE dirty but BARELY I put a skin on it last week to try to help some wear around the bezel but it's not gonna help much if at all especially if dropped but naked in a cup holder will sure do the trick especially if it doesn't have the rubber lining.

where did u get those skins? looking for a black back one with an apple cut out

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum and it's interesting reading all the past threads.

Anyway, I've bought the iPhone 5S Space Grey, like many of you, I couldn't wait so I rushed to 2 shops just to get it.. I did my homework and had the impression that the 5S Space Grey was a little more hardy than the other 2 colors.

But within the first 3 days or so, I've got minor scratches here and there on the black part of the phone and a ding on the bezel, not sure if that's what you call it. I'll attach a photo.. So I'm wondering if it's my problem or my iPhone problem. I'm not particularly rough with the phone, when I drive, I put it in the cup holder, there's nothing inside and I'm still lost as to how I got the ding on the bezel. Everything seems pretty soft and prone to dings/scratches. I've put a case on for now but I'm not really a fan of cases as I like to rock my iPhone naked.

Let me know guys! Thanks! :)

P.S sorry for the ****** quality, using my work phone to snap the photo

I know you you feel. I have a chip on the touch id crystal. Its very small but Im taking it back and getting a new one. Im sure the Best Buy team are already annoyed with me because I have already exchanged a 16 GB for a 32 GB. They might not think its a big deal but the phone should not have any chips on it what so ever.

Clear case would be your answer.

My launch day iPhone 5s is already showing very light signs of wear near the chamfer above the dock connector.
My room mates space gray has some wear in that same area, and a small nick on his chamfer edge on the bottom, and he has a case on too.

I had a space gray, but changed to silver. I loved the color of space gray, looked awesome when clean. But that was the problem, it wouldn't stay clean. Took it back and got silver and now the fingerprints don't bother me. My first iPhone was white (4S) so I think white is just what I'm gonna stick with. I know most people like how the screen blends into the phone when black phones are off, but I'm the opposite, I like when I can see the outlines. I'm a fan of contrast.

I have Zagg films on the back and sides and no case. But I've been very careful with my phone. Literally the only thing I've been doing a lot is taking it in and out of my pocket (in which I keep nothing else), but I figured it should be able to stand up to that....

Not too upset over it though, the phone is beautiful and works flawlessly. Just a little upset that I might not get as much for the phone in a couple years if it's worn. Trying to decide if I should invest in a case or not.

Invest? Jeeez go to Amazon and order a $10 tech armor TPU case and call it a day.

If it wasn't on there when you un-boxed it's you. Move on with life and enjoy your phone.

The only thing I'm not happy with about the design is the home button. The sapphire reflects the light differently to the rest of the glass front. It's not as noticeable on the white models, but I can definitely notice it on every photo I've seen. Also, the home button ring just kind of looks weird. Not as visible as on the white models.
You're kidding right? The way the light reflects off the home button bothers you? Sometimes I feel bad for humanity.

Typical wear I've dropped it twice already no major dings or scratches. 100% no protection. Like my Friday nights wait what

Had mine since launch, keep it in a slip case which means its protected when carrying it around but naked when using it.

Not a single mark ANYWHERE, really glad I went for the Space Grey because I was very unsure at first.

I dont think they mark as easily as people are led to believe. However drops, keys, coins etc will obviously mark it. Its like a car, after driving it for a few months it will mark and chip if its hit by stones etc.

Some people on here seem to expect it to be indestructible. EVERYTHING marks when it comes into contact with other abrasive surfaces.

Hey, if one doesn't protect their phone (with a case), then that's the way life goes.

Items will get scrapes, scratches, scuffs and dings if they are not insulated.

If you like to run naked, be prepared to get a few bruises.

Nothing else to say.

Even though this is a great statement, iPhone 4/4S is an exception.

Launch day phone, mostly pocket carried without a case, also clipped to car holder a number of times a day.

The only protection added is a screen protector type film to the back (in case of putting it down on a rough surface).

Not a mark anywhere.

Just by looking at your images, I kinda wish I had gotten the space gray model over white/silver.

The lighting in that picture is not a true representation of what the phone looks like... remember photos can be enhanced to alter the coloring or hues to a desired affect. The Space Gray is more lighter in color in real life.

I originally had space gray. I freaking loved it, mostly because my previous 4S was white. I did end up switching it for the silver and I'm a lot happier because silver repels fingerprints/nicks/marks better. But space gray is a nice color, much better than slate, in my opinion.

I've had every generation of iPhone no cases or stupid films and have had no issues some people are just prone to issues some are not.

Prone to issues? That doesn't make any sense. Accidents happen at any time. I'm not clumsy at all, but in the 2 years I have owned an iPhone, I dropped it once or twice, nothing major. And I have a case on, and no damage was done. However it is stupid to say that "some people are prone to issues", what does that even mean? Car accidents happen all the time. You never know when your phone will have a fall, or if it get's into the wrong hands what could happen, etc. Personally I wouldn't leave my phone naked because I like protecting it from the elements and at the same time giving my phone a nice grippy feel.

I really just dont understand knocking people that use cases. As if using cases is stupid.

I take really good care of my phone but I still use a screen protector front and back. Also use a spigen ultra thin case.

Interesting.. 4 days ago I would agree with you since my 3 year old iPhone 4 was flawless until I recently dropped it and shattered the back glass.

It will happen eventually regardless of how careful you are..
