My space grey 5s home button feels like its on a slope. Hard to describe.

Lightening connector at the bottom, thumb on the home button, the bit closest to the connector feels higher / more raised than the part of the home button closer to the screen.

Hopefully you'll understand what I mean from description!!!

Is this the same for others and by design?

Interesting.. 4 days ago I would agree with you since my 3 year old iPhone 4 was flawless until I recently dropped it and shattered the back glass.

It will happen eventually regardless of how careful you are..

No issues in the last 6 years, Not to mention the phones Ive owned before the iPhone came out. I am really not too concerned about it.

Even though this is a great statement, iPhone 4/4S is an exception.

ya... I dropped mine on concrete and not a single scuff.

Both sides shattered, but not a single scuff!

These folks with fuzzy memories about the 4/4S make me laugh. There are PLENTY of people with 4's that looked like CRAP, and plenty of people that ran naked for over a year with a 5 (me) and had no appreciable damage.

If you treat it like crap, it'll look like crap. It's not the phones fault, it's YOURS. The 4/4S may have been slightly more resistant to cosmetic damage, but they were FAR from this indestructible vision people have (in comparison especially).

My 3 days old AT&T 32GB space gray 5S in a black Apple leather case already has 3 hairline scratches on the front. Debating on whether or not to get the Spigen glass protector.

I also noticed today that there's a gold-like metallic dust behind the sapphire glass covering the rear camera lens. It's against the glass and it looks like it's over rim of the camera lens and it doesn't look like it's affecting picture quality.

If dust continues to build up inside, could I get a replacement via AppleCare+?

Dropping the phone is not what I'm talking about. Use your brain.

It's all about daily use. I used my iphone 4 with just a back protector and it is still like day one. Can I treat my iphone 5 like that ? Hell no !

I've had my Space Grey for almost 3 weeks and its still like new, no dings, scratches etc. I keep my 5s in my Sena Ultraslim pouch most of the time.

Really nice pouch, fits absolutely perfectly, and its quick and easy to remove when needed.

I used a similar case like that (Freitag) for my 4s and really wanted to get one for my 5s, however heard that on the 5 the paint on the sides of the phone was wearing out from pulling the phone in/out of the sleeve for some sleeve owners.....so I am a bit weary about getting one for the 5s. Have you noticed anything? Maybe too early to tell...

Not noticed anything.

But too be honest, the inside material of the pouch is so soft that I could not see it been able to wear/rub the colouring off.

The colour of the iPhone is anodized (its not paint) so the only way to mark it would be to drop it, or have it rubbing against something hard/abrasive.

I've never had screen protectors on the last three iPhones and never had a problem with scratches. How would your phone have got scratched?

Part of "using your brain" would be realizing that there are PLENTY of people that had no cosmetic issues whatsoever with the 5/5S. Sure, there are a handful of people on *gasp* an internet forum screaming "scuffgate" to high heaven, but I'll be darned if I didn't use my Slate 5 for over a year, naked, without a single scratch!

Do I agree that the 4/4S is slightly more resistant to cosmetic damage on a minor scale? Sure. Especially if you DON'T "use your brain" and treat it like someone who doesn't care about the cosmetics, only to bitch about it later when your keys/rocks/whatever else you put in your pocket scratches your phone.

The REASON Apple went to the more expensive design (and it is...) was NOT to prevent cosmetic damage, it was to lighten the phone and make it less succeptable to catastrophic damage from things like dropping or hitting the back with a hard object...

Does that bug the crap out of OCD people who can't sleep at night over a hairline scratch? Probably. But the great news is, there are ways you can use the phone NAKED and still keep it flawless, even with a 5/5S.

Provided you "use your brain" of course. Which admittedly is difficult for some.

Personally I'd much rather have a scratch or dent than a completely shattered side any day, but since there are people who honestly believe it will never happen to them I suppose the prevailing point here is that as long as you're careful the 5/5S can hold up just fine, even in spite of that ignorance...

Just "use your brain" ;)

Space Grey 5s should be shipped to me on the 28th. Having owned black/gray phones in the past, scuffs and light scratches are just part of the deal. Like if you owned a black car/truck/bike. I have a Tech21 Impact cover to put on just for general purpose. Being a bit clumsy working outside with poor feeling in my hands is a perfect storm for a smooth, shiny electronic device.

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum and it's interesting reading all the past threads.

Anyway, I've bought the iPhone 5S Space Grey, like many of you, I couldn't wait so I rushed to 2 shops just to get it.. I did my homework and had the impression that the 5S Space Grey was a little more hardy than the other 2 colors.

But within the first 3 days or so, I've got minor scratches here and there on the black part of the phone and a ding on the bezel, not sure if that's what you call it. I'll attach a photo.. So I'm wondering if it's my problem or my iPhone problem. I'm not particularly rough with the phone, when I drive, I put it in the cup holder, there's nothing inside and I'm still lost as to how I got the ding on the bezel. Everything seems pretty soft and prone to dings/scratches. I've put a case on for now but I'm not really a fan of cases as I like to rock my iPhone naked.

Let me know guys! Thanks! :)

P.S sorry for the ****** quality, using my work phone to snap the photo

what did you take this picture with, a potato??

but anyway, how are we supposed to know what happened? if you didn't notice it when you first bought the phone then you probably did it somewhere down the line of rocking the phone naked. its what happens.

I'll be picking up a space grey model this week...if my store has any in stock that is.

I'm not a fan of the gold model. Just feels a bit flashy and I don't like that. The white is nice but I had a white iPhone 4S for 2 years so it's time for a change :)

I was a bit worried about the space grey being too light. I really liked the slate black of the iPhone 5 but after seeing the 5S in store it actually looks really nice.

So, fingers crossed that my store has stock of the 16 or 32gb space grey 5S! I'm going to try get a 32gb but if they only have 16gb then I'll just grab that.

It is extremely obvious that you're angry that I said use your brain. If saying ''I'm sorry'' prevents you from repeating the ''use your brain'' sentence, then I'll do that. Just don't say it for the rest of the day.

I noticed my battery life is quite a bit better with 7.0.3. Watched the keynote last night starting with 100% charge, after an hour of video over wifi and some more youtube/browsing, next morning it showed 90% left. I remember normally on 7.0.2 I would wake up with 80-85% with less video watching.

I definitely notice it it feels like the top of the home button sinks in more then the bottom
