I do not want to have so much info in my phone, is like having all the eggs in one basket that brakes and is an easy target. Besides it is software and is hackable.

Imagine someone with a hack walking around you sucking the info of your phone at the grocery store or movie theater... and making charges while you are distracted.

Nah, way too tempting for hackers, now they will have everything in one place.... your phone.

I am sure that it would be something that only those who wanted to implement the feature would. If you don't want to, then you don't have to!

Never quite understood the purpose of NFC. Pulling my wallet out of my pocket and taking a card out isn't an arduous task I'm longing to rid myself of.

You don't have to carry your wallet *and* your phone.

Just one example: If I'm out exercising on a run, I could use my phone to buy a drink.

The next step would be to have a digital driver's license, and you'd hardly ever need your wallet. Bring it on I say.

.

repeatedly staying in Asia i can tell you: NFC is extremely handy to have!

and here in Austria as well: There are more than enough ways to use it for micro payments/tickets

What exactly is NFC being used for in the Android devices it's it? I mean, besides nothing.

i could enter my campus without my student id card, movie tickets and for the underground station.

if u pay with nfc u can also get discounts or collect "points" at the cafe to get something for free

Great. Now a thief is gonna steal my phone and my finger.

You want a finger? I can get you a finger, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don't wanna know about it, believe me. Hell, I can get you a finger by 3 o'clock this afternoon... with nail polish.

I can automate my house, from lighting to the tvs, etc. It can sense I'm in my car and sets everything up for driving use. It does this when I go to work or go to sleep also.

There are tons of possibilities.

There's an added benefit to NFC vs just using the cards in your wallet.

The ability to integrate with an app.

IE (and I'm nearly positive this is possible) - an app could keep track of your purchases so you could later download them into quicken.

And/or at the check out - after tapping - you could receive a promotion and/or offer to take advantage of. Either at that store - or maybe nearby

Just two examples.

NFC is just prone to a bad user experience. It's also a security risk. It's got no killer application accept Point of Sale and has no real adoption.

Fingerprint sensor removes security risk, and Apple's involvement increases "real adoption". Seriously that's like saying, "Teleporters have no real adoption so companies are wasting time trying to research and implement them."

I'd like to see both. I'm most interested in NFC as I believe this is the first step in consolidating all your plastic cards. The fingerprint scanner sounds like an very good authentication method. Personally I think retina eye scanning would be ideal but not sure the hardware is something that fits in a phone.

IOS is so old and worthless. It just lets me open apps on my iPad and then gets out of the way until I need it. But, but, I can't put the temp on the lock screen. That is so horrible.

Haters gonna hate. Geez.

in the United States Walt Disney is the only company deploying NFC. We have no where to use it other than their theme parks. So if we got it what would we use it for?

youre kidding right? almost all fast food places, gas stations and retailers have nfc

I'd be happier if Apple would just focus more on making it the best darn phone for talking and hearing clearly. IMHO, that is the feature of most phones that needs the most help.

Besides that... looking forward to iOS 7.0.... i think this is where the real fun will begin.

One thing I worry about here is ... do you give the officer your phone for him to take back to the patrol car to check it out? If so, can they use a device to literally grab everything off your phone? I recall reading about such devices being available to law enforcement. If there's even the possibility, I'd rather give them my current non-electronic driver's license.

Gadzooks!

Everybody I know is clamoring for a fingerprint scanner on the iPhone. Every single person who does not (yet) own an iPhone tells me that they would buy one immediately if it had a fingerprint scanner. The current iPhone users? They all vow to upgrade.

Meanwhile, AAPL is down again today, because everybody on Wall Street hates Apple.

But seriously:

If this stuff is the best that Apple can come up with, their sales, their stock and their cache will all continue to decline.

From one extreme to another

There are some places in the US that have NFC pay stations....its not only Disney, but its also not "almost all fast food places, gas stations and retailers"....

There are broader applications in a fingerprint scanner aside from simple security.....

What if the home button was a fingerprint scanner and each fingerprint opened a different app/did a different task, customizable by the user? I could set it to call my wife whenever I touched the home button with my ring finger....

Maybe not that practical, maybe it is. Point being there could be more to it than simple security....innovation is about coming up with something that disrupts the norm and is unexpected.....

If Apple jumps on the NFC bandwagon, I could see businesses starting to adopt the tech as well in North America. Overseas, in many countries, NFC is not a problem, but rather the norm. Still this is a big IF. I know that in my city, which has about 3 million people and the 5th largest in North America, NFC is far and few between. Most vending machines don't use it. Haven't seen it in theatres, cafes, major businesses, etc. Most places want you to use their gift cards and most people like using debit cards. Vending machines have had card slots for years now so until the general public calls for it, it'll be business as usual with debit, credit cards and change. Most people in this city don't even know about NFC nor care much about it.

What exactly are you wanting to do that you can't do now?

Walk up to my car with my phone in my pocket, and be able to open the door and push a button to start it up, with no need to do anything else. Have the car nav system fire up to show traffic on my way home, because my phone knows my schedule and where I'm likely to want to go to.

And lots more stuff that I cannot currently invent and am not currently thinking of.

Sheesh.

It the iphone5 has NFC that would make NFC awesome and an amazing feature, if it doesn't have NFC then NFC sucks android sucks for having it.

Basically, I want them to copy Meego Harmattan and webOS. Mostly the former.

1. Improved multitasking. The current implementation is clunky. I want decent mini views of everything running like Expose/Mission Control and the option to close all at once. If i have multiple windows of the same app stick them together like a deck of cards. webOS and Meego have the best multitasking implementations to date. Apple should copy that.

2. The app-centric UI is ancient. I search for what i want to launch now and would rather just take a quick glance at the basics (social, calendar, and messaging), which means scrolling through pages upon pages of apps on the home screen to get anything done is archaic. Throw them in a folder or separate screen and clear the main homescreen/desktop for more important stuff.

3. Live feeds/home screen. Let me know at a quick glance whats happening with my calendar, twitter, facebook, messaging etc without having to launch each app accordingly. Another nod to the way Meego/N9 does this.

4. Quick access to settings. They already copied Android's notification concept might as well finish the job and add quick toggles for Wi-Fi, BT, Airplane, Brightness etc. or copy webOS's implementation by putting a little gear in the top right that drops down and reveals them.

Right now doing something in iOS takes 3-5 taps instead of 1-2 and it gets tiresome and boring fast.

Why can't i have something like this

Feeds/Notifications, Apps, Multitasking. Done. Simple, quick and functional

Instead of this chaos

Cool. Steal my phone and get my car as a bonus. Then be directed to my house so you can steal my other stuff.

If you're talking about chaos, I think you switched the image order.

You just know the religious fundamentalists will be all over it with the 666 mark of the beast thing with the NFC as part of a phone. Think about it. Creepy.

The mark of the beast is depicted as being on your actual person - not an external object, let alone a phone.
