Please don't read into this too much, but I just spoke to my Verizon B2B account executive, and he said that he "heard rumblings" that Verizon will offer preorders for both the 5C and 5S for business customers (through the My Business portal) on 9/13. He told me not to get too excited because nothing has actually been announced. This gets my hopes up slightly, but I'm not counting on it actually happening.

I noticed that the 5S was available in the Apple Store App and it confirmed my eligibility for an upgrade, I said, OK, great, BUY, selected color and size, then had the options for AppleCare+, extra cables, etc. And as soon as I add ANYTHING else, the price jumps from $399 to over $800?!?! Of course availability to ship says not currently available anyway, so I don't know what it means that you can add it to your cart.

Anyone else notice this?

It appears that you can order the phone beginning on Sept 20th in the Apple Store on line too.

Walk me through your logic here.

If you order it the second it goes on sale and there are preorders, you get it right away.

But if you order it the second it goes on sale and there are no preorders, you get it in 3 months?

I doubt it will work that way. Just order it as fast as you can once it goes on sale online.

You're probably correct.. Let's hope they didn't opt out of preorders due to limited supply..

I'm pissed.

I sold mine already and was planning on being able to have my 5S by 9/20.

Seems like the odds of that happening are slim now.

Business customers is everyday customers correct or?

I have a phone, so I can wait for it after purchasing one from Apple's online store. :D No standing in line and will have the 30 day return period for this phone over a 14 day return from the Carriers ;)

My guess is they don't want to overload the apple servers with all of the preorders for the 5C and 5S. Correct me if I am wrong, but in the past preordering didn't guarantee receiving the phone on the release day.

waiting on line is so 2007. I think I will order online and get it a few days later.

No pre-orders is lame attempt to create buzz.

I'm disappointed there won't be preorders for the 5s, but if you don't want to wait in line, why is it so bad to wait an extra couple of days for it to be shipped? It's hardly evil and anti-consumer if the only difference is you won't be the first guy on the block to have one.

FWIW, it hasn't just been a couple of days that people have had to wait if they didn't preorder (or didn't order ASAP). Delays were weeks long. I'd like to try to avoid waiting that long if at all possible, but that's me. :)

So has anyone figured out if ordering becomes live On Sep 20 Midnight PDT or at 8am PDT?

Either one is fine with me I just want to make sure I am ready to quickly get my order in...

Three days? Have you never been through this before? In the past, if you don't pre-order and you're not camping outside of the store, you don't get a new iPhone for months... Apple shot themselves in the foot here. I can see them losing sales due to this.

I have indeed been through this before. We will still be able to order them on the 20th, we just won't be able to pre-order them before the 20th. If (like all pre-order events) you can get in quick before Apple's servers crash and get an order placed, you'll have it in 2-3 days (if not overnight).

The only difference I see between this sort of order and a ore-order is that you'll have to deal with seeing people who did wait in line play with it for a day or two prior to you getting it. But if that's you're biggest hardship in life, I have zero sympathy for you my friend :)

Now, it's possible that there won't be that many phones available for order online, but make no mistake that having pre-orders would not change that number. Apple is going to make sure their brick and mortar stores have a certain quantity on launch date, and any excess will be sold online. That is always true. The difference this time around is that Apple may not know how much excess they are going to have until much closer to the ship date.

Our Verizon guy told us flat out that the 5s was going to be available on their business site for pre-order "next week." I even had our guy that handles phones ping him again to confirm that he was talking about the 5s and not the 5c. We'll see what happens I suppose, but I don't have a lot of faith in our Verizon guy.
