Following reports that Apple will release a new 4-inch iPhone in March or April, a user named Gijs Raggers has shared a photo of the alleged smartphone next to an iPhone 5 on Dutch website One More Thing. The photo was posted on the website's discussion forums, where anyone can sign up and contribute.

The purported 4-inch iPhone appears to be the same size as the iPhone 5, but otherwise looks identical to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s externally, including its curved glass edges, thinner bezels, relocated FaceTime camera, pill-shaped volume buttons and power button moved to the right side.

The veracity of the photo cannot be confirmed, but Gijs Raggers previously leaked photos of the original iPad Air in August 2013, nearly three months before the tablet was announced. Many other photos and videos of the tablet surfaced around the same time, however, so take that as you will.

While most rumors suggest the new 4-inch iPhone's upgraded tech specs will be similar to the iPhone 6, including A8 and M8 chips, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and NFC for Apple Pay, the photo conflicts with reports claiming the device will look similar to the last-generation iPhone 5s design.

It also sounds questionable for Apple to call its new 4-inch iPhone the "iPhone 5se" if the device truly resembles an iPhone 6. That may very well be the name, but the oft-rumored "iPhone 6c" name, or even the "iPhone 6 mini" name suggested in our forums, would seem to be more fitting name choices in that scenario.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo issued a note to investors today, a copy of which was obtained by MacRumors, in which he reaffirmed Apple will release a new 4-inch iPhone and iPad Air 3 in the first half of 2016. Both devices, and new Apple Watch bands, could be introduced at a March media event in San Francisco.

Why not just keep selling the iPhone 5s for couple of more years? It is a good phone.

Becuase it is not new and exciting.. Out old wine into new bottle and charge higher price, why not? It is something milliojnof Apple fan will drew over

I'm sure I've read on MR that the design was to incorporate the more curved edges on the 6 design. I think it looks really nice and, if real, will make for a great 5C replacement for my mum in a year or so.

I do find it weird that the power button opposes the volume buttons, though. Continuity isn't a replacement for functionality, Apple!

I like the design, looks like a mini iPhone 6. :)

Looks like more years of glass screen protectors that don't cover the entire front. Not a entirely a bad thing, but I was hoping for a different approach this time... Can't seem to go back to non glass protectors

Doesn't make much sense if you believe the latest rumors. Supposedly the 5se is supposed to share the same form factor as iPhone 5 devices. https://www.macrumors.com/2016/01/22/apple-4-inch-iphone-5se/

This just looks like a shrunk down iPhone 6. Button size / position, as well as same antenna bands.

Previous rumors were that it was based on the iPhone 6 design. If it has the number "5" in the name I would expect it to look more like the 5 though. Time will tell...

Why? Why "5se"? Why March? Why lower specs?

Because Apple wants you to buy a 6S now, and wants you to buy a 7 come fall. It's like the 5C, it isn't their flagship so it isn't as important.

iOS is becoming increasingly reliant on the swipe-from-left gesture, whether for returning to a previous page or bringing up previous apps with 3D touch. This gesture is certainly possible on a sharp-sided device like the 5s, but not nearly as comfortable as on the smooth curved sides of the 6/6s.

Nobody cannot get things together?

iPhone 5SE - revised iPhone 5S with A8, new hardware etc.

iPhone 6S Mini - the thing on that photo on the right with hardware that can be comparable to 6S.

iPhone 5SE - the same price as current 5S.
6S Mini - 100$ less than iPhone 6S.

So you think Apple is putting out two different 4" phones this year?

If Apple wants the new 4" phone to sell well they need it to have the internals of the 6S. If it has the internals of the 6 they are crippling it right out of the gate and it want sell as well. I want a 4" phone myself but I don't want it with old tech. I want it to be the same as the 6S just in a smaller form factor. Guess we will have to wait to see what Apple comes out with.

I doubt Apple is going to come out with 2 different versions of a 4" phone. Hopefully it will be the 6S mini because I am in the market for a 6S in a 4" form factor. I got my fingers crossed.

Honestly, most people probably wouldn't even know the difference if it has iPhone 6 internals.

True that, but just because the specs are not the latest and greatest a lot of people would poo poo it. I don't care as much about spec numbers as long as it has the features I want.
