Wow. I believe this is equal to what the S4 "Shipped" over the course of an entire month last year.

10 million in 3 days is pretty crazy. The numbers that could've been if supplies weren't limited and China included probably could've gotten closer to 13-14 million.

The Apple store I went to after work still had a line 30 deep out the door at 7pm Friday. The store still had plenty of stock. If only Sony and Microsoft could do this with their game system launches.

Wasn't Steve's goal of selling the original iPhone 10 million units in an entire year? I still remember his 2007 keynote where he wanted to capture "just 1 percent of the market."

I think they blew well past his original goals during the first couple years.

I remember they actually stopped making the original iPhone a few weeks (months?) before the iPhone 3G came out. They just ran out, I don't think they thought it would be such a huge success, even at the original $500 for 4 GB

Are they 10 Million New Customers?

How many are upgrades Vs new customers? Though it should't matter

Given the fact that this is supposed to be their biggest launch yet (TC's own words), I find the difference with last year underwhelming.

On a positive note, this year does not include China (last year's numbers did).

Dude, they don't have iPhone 6+ ready to sell and unlike that year, China isn't on the list. China. Do you know what it means? China has an insanely bigger number of smartphone buyers and all of their carriers, especially China Mobile, will drop blood behind the iPhone, so they can transition their costumers to the new 4g network.

If Apple could sell more 6+ and if China was already on the rollout, we could easily be talking about 13 or 14 million people.

Still waiting for my 6 Plus. 3 more weeks....

Check your local Apple Store via app or web site time to time. I have ordered 6+ via VZW and was scheduled to delivered on10/14. But found out yesterday that my local Apple Store had one in stock and picked it up. Posting this from my new 6+!

Anyone form London that can confirm if the IP6+ is available in the local stores? and if there is no more line in fro of the store? ;)) Just to know when to go and buy it

Does anyone know if Apple's sales numbers include backordered units?

I wonder if this 10 million includes preorders that are yet to ship and if not how many devices it would be?

You're totally right. 10 million in three days is a total unmitigated disaster. Tim Cook should resign, Apple should declare bankruptcy and cease embarrassing themselves by making any more iPhones, and Jony Ive should commit Seppuku. DOOMED!

here fixed that for you Tim :)

“Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend, and we couldn’t be happier,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “We would like to thank all of our Chinese customers for making this our best launch ever, shattering all previous sell-through records by a large margin.

:D

"The S5 shipped to retailers 10 million units in 25 days"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S5#Sales

OK I know 10m is 6 and 6+ combined, but from the figures that come from Samsung I was always under the impression that iPhone and Galaxy were pretty much neck and neck?

Obviously not..

And Samsung stopped mentioning Milestones, because the s5 barely beat the s4 (with a much bigger rollout) and sales are declining, as financial reports can attest.

They still brag about the occasional round number, like 1 million Galaxies sold in Germany. But that's it.

iPhone6 :

- Base storage should be 32GB

I totally agree, I was surprised by that move (while up grading the 2nd and 3rd tier phones to 64 and 128 GB)

iPhone6 :

- No iPhone 6C with all-plastic back

Why would they make a "cheaper" version of the brand new phone? The iPhone 5C is a "cheaper" version of the now 3 year old iPhone 5 that came out with the new iPhone 5S last year, it was not a "5S with a plastic back" it was a slightly updated iPhone 5 with a plastic back that came out with the metal backed and new hardware filled iPhone 5S.

Maybe a 6C next year? Maybe not with all the complaints that "plastic means it is not premium"

I noticed Cook used the phrase "sell through" in the press release. So I would assume none of this 10 million is channel fill?

Oh, so you don't think they're counting all the orders that people are placing but haven't received yet? Or do you think people are not ordering just because of the long wait time?

The few people I know, are not ordering, but instead waiting for in store availability. This is anecdotal of course.

Samsung should make an ad showing how they sold more than 10 million galaxy s5 units the first weekend

Haha. Samsung wishes it could get sales even close to that with a phone over only a few days. Even with their wide 150 country release of the S5 this year it still took 25 days to sell 10 million.

iPhone6 :

- Bad screen aspect ratio - should be paper A6
- Too thin → Protruding camera, rather than longer battery life and flush lens
- Ugly antenna bands
- No OIS on basic model
- Base storage should be 32GB
- No wireless charging
- No iPhone 6C with all-plastic back
- No sapphire screen

Grasping at straws, eh? No iPhone 6c? Nobody wants an iPhone 6c. If Apple learned anything from the 5C it's that people overwhelmingly prefer the nicer build quality and feel of the phones made with nicer materials. If someone wants a plastic phone there is always Samsung or Motorola. I will, however agree with you on the base storage. It should be 32GB, not 16.
