I realize I'm talking to an incredibly small minority of people here, but is anyone replacing their iPad mini with the iPhone 6+? I'm a medical student who uses the iPad mini to pull up lab values on patients while rounding in a hospital. Since I didn't want to carry around extra weight, I have been using the mini as my phone for the last year. It's been a great experience as far as voice quality goes (no one can tell I'm using google voice/hangouts on my iPad), but there are times where I maybe don't have a pair of headphones and I don't want to talk on speaker. And using the mini would allow for an even smaller device to look up labs with....

Anyways, has anyone done something similar?

The jury is still out but will mostly comes down to apps. The biggest advantage to the mini is that it runs multi panel ipad specific apps. For some reason, apple kept the 6 iPhone apps only, so new apps and new versions of apps need to be written to add multi panel capability. This transition will take a few months at least.

An iPad mini AND iPhone 5 replacement is my goal with the 6+. Already sold both of the devices... now just waiting for the new phone to arrive (was supposed to yesterday, and never showed up)

I thought it would be... But after playing with mine all day yesterday, I came home and picked the mini up for some web browsing... For me at least, the mini is the perfect size. It just can't be replaced.

Screen is big enough for me to replace my iPad retina and my wife has replaced her iPad mini. If I had the 6 Plus for my vacation in Hawaii, I would not have brought my iPad mini.

Walk around with a checkbook and that's just about the size of the iPhone 6 Plus. If your using safari to view the charts and data, then your fine. If it's a specific iPad app your using, then your sol unless there is a version for iPhone.

Not until it runs iPad apps. I get a lot of magazines on newsstand that don't work and a few apps as well for work. If they do get that working on the + I would get of rid of my mini and get a air for bigger needs. Currently have a iPad mini and ipad 2 and use the mini due to the iPad 2's weight.

Its definitely a mini replacement. I was debating on getting a mini and now there is no justification. With the right case the same might hold true for me and my iPad usage.

In iOS 8 notice the Apple store is just one app gor all devices. Once everyone goes responsive with the web and their apps....

OP im debating that right now... the new wave of iPads are coming with touchID.. omg can't decide.

I have a 6 Plus and a Retina Mini and I haven't looked at the mini since I got the Plus. I'm not sure if it's because the Plus is the new hotness.

My biggest fear is to get rid of the mini and regret it.

I'm debating the same thing. Picking up my 6+ in an hour. Will let you know what I decide to do.

I have a retina iPad mini and I honestly believe that having tried out everything I need to that I can happily live without the iPad. There are no iPad specific apps that I can't live without and the 6+ is big enough for me to do everything that I need.
Of course everyone's needs will be different so I'd say to anyone don't ditch the iPad until you've given the 6+a good try out.

Hang on to it for a couple of weeks - you should be pretty certain by that point. I have a full size iPad Air and while my 6+ is a lot bigger than my iPhone 5 was and will allow me to leave my iPad at home, if I'm browsing the web at home I'll still be reaching for the iPad simply due to the screen size difference.

I've never had an iPad because I don't really have the need for one but was considering buying an iPad mini for ebooks and other stuff. The 6+ will be a happy medium for me I think and love having everything on one device

I use my mini mostly for notetaking in class. I don't see myself turning my 6+ sideways and typing on it. I love the phone but it's not going to replace the mini.

I created a thread earlier about this as well but I'm keeping my 6 as well and using three plus as a mini replacement but I got both for free so it's viable for me

I got rid of my iPad 3 retina for this iPhone 6 plus and I must say the plus didn't replace it lol... But I will pick up a new mini in the future when they're announced in october lol

Yea, whats wrong with using both? Nothing at all! haha

After only having my 6+ for a day I can tell the mini isn't going to get much use from me. But I only paid $200 for my gen 1 mini about a year ago. So for $200 it's just worth it to have it around as an extra device. Basically it just became my 19mths old iPad .. Dedicated game playing and Elmo watching.

I have a question about replacing the iPad mini retina for the Plus. I have invested a lot of time progressing in KOTOR, Bioshock and Hearthstone on my Mini. I know that Blizzard figured out how to save progression on any device but I'm not sure about the other games. How can I transfer my progress from my mini to the Plus? I don't want to start over again.

That's what I'm doing, I got a 6 Plus so I'm selling my iPad mini and just going down to one mobile device. So all I'll have is my 27" iMac and 6 Plus.

Debating selling the iPad mini with just an iPhone6 so the plus would be an ideal replacement. It was one of the reasons I did consider the plus for a short while.

4th year med student here. I'm considering doing the same thing. I've had an iPhone 5 and an iPad Mini Retina that I've used on the wards and it's been great. I've used the Epic iPad app (Canto) and hoping to do the same with the 6 Plus.

Looking at getting a 64 6 Plus as soon as I'm able. My wife and I are both eligible for upgrades with ATT right now.

On a side note, I just found out that NotesPlus is being made for the 6 Plus. That's one app I've used on the iPad and iPad Mini quite a bit.

Getting the following case:

Would love to hear from more med students, residents and attendings on this thread re: the specific question from the OP.
