Say what?? I have not heard about this. The OIS for video is one of the reason I got the plus. :( What do I search for more info?

Yeah the OIS isn't being used during video recording. There seems to be a lot of misinformation online about this, but it is not on during video recording.

I found it pretty lame that Apple chose to make the phone thinner rather than featuring OIS in both devices.

Not really. I remember it being clearly explained in the keynote. I had forgotten it for a while, though.

That might not be the only factor. They charge $100 extra for the Plus so the addition of OIS is probably factored into that.

Could be, but I'm sure a lot of that is also more money in their from profit margins. They could have gotten it done.

The extra 100 dollars isn't really necessary to make a profit off of OIS. The cost is an extra $1 on top of the iphone 6 camera cost.

Before someone says that apples is overprices or blah blah blah the profit margins are similar on all cellphones. Also, that donesn't take into account software engineering and marketing. On the other hand it is obvious that the extra hundred dollars is not really necessary for OIS.

Still, it's $1 less if Apple were to include OIS in the 6.

just use the hyperlapse app (from instagram) to record your videos and select 1x speed... it's like having a steadicam built into your phone.

you downgrade from 1080p to 720p BUT the improvement in movement and decrease in shake is worth it IMO.

hyperlapse uses the gyroscope to crop the video and make up for shake, mimicking what OIS does in a digital level.

much better than current digital implementation that utilizes thousands of points in the image to stabilize... uses the gyroscope to get all that infromation (more accurately and quickly) instead.

Also, as explained in the first linked post, it was said in the keynote that both would have "cinematic video stabilization" and - in opposition to the tech features regarding photos on Apple's homepage - the information about video recording is exactly the same on apple.com.
