I have the grandfathered unlimited rate plan and I upgrade my iPhone every year using the early upgrade discount which is $200. If I waited two years between upgrades, I would get a $450 discount, so by upgrading annually, I'm loosing $50. But this year, since my upgrade isn't available until after the 19th, and last week it didn't seem like anyone was able to get att to move you're eligibility date, I decided to use the Next Program. I was hesitant paying the monthly Next fee without getting any discount on my monthly rate plan like with Mobile Shape plans, but I realized next year I can buy the new iPhone with the 2 year contract subsidy again. I have confirmed this with ATT that I can go back into a 2 year contract after the Next contract is satisfied, which I plan to do by paying it off early. As a result, next year's iphone with be purchased with the full upgrade discount of $450. This year I'm paying full retail for the iPhone via the Next Program, but I also got out of my contract for my iPhone 5s one year early and can sell it unlocked for a profit.

Everyone's situation is unique, so I think in my case, I made the right decision. Please let me know if I over looked anything.

You didn't make a bad choice. someone put it right saying if you have a shared data plan on over 10GB go with NEXT for the 25$ discount. I also say that any Shared family plan you would benefit from NEXT.

Usually ATT was good an over ridding upgrades and they will still do so for any other phone than APPLE because they make $$ off of them.

I have a corporate discount and im on Unlimited so I prefer 2 year contract.

So I just got off the phone with the retentions department and they said if I called in next Friday again to the retentions department they would be able to override my upgrade eligibility. My contract ends December so AT&T is effectively moving it up 3 months. The only downside is that you have to order from AT&T and they have horrid shipping times for the iPhone 6/6 Plus currently.

I am starting to believe this guy. I think if ATT processes the order on their end they can do it. but you need to be in a close window from your contract end date. Mine is end of OCT and someone said they will call me Friday to process pre order. Not happy with $40 fee and the extra $40 taxes vs ordering through apple but I usually get them waived!

Just got off the phone with att and ordered an iPhone 6 16gb in gold for $199.99 plus tax. Estimated shipping date is 9/30-10/09

I think retentions can authorize full upgrades after 1 year. I called in again about upgrading another line (5c, just completed 1 year) and ordered another iPhone 6 at 2 year contract pricing.
