I got two small scratches in the coating on mine in the first week, so I went with a Tech Armor tempered glass screen protector.

Pretty ****** that I have to do that though. I haven't used a screen protector on any iPhone I've owned since the very first model.

Yep, the oleophobic coating on the iPhone 6 is definitely weaker than the coating they used on the iPhone 5/5S.

My 5 never had any scratch problems but my iPhone 6 started to have micro scratches on the screen within a week.

That's why I immediately placed a Zagg tempered glass protector on my replaced iPhone 6 (replaced due to other reasons, not scratches) to protect it.

The tempered glass is definitely more resistant to scratches, and oddly, it feels smoother than the original display. I haven't noticed any decrease in touch sensitivity either.

I agree with the OP these screens should be more screen resistant. I could not believe that I saw a few scratches on my 5s after just a few weeks on delicate handling. I think my earrings did it.

I do have a tempered glass screen protector on now though. However, Apple should have made these screens more scratch resistant.

The screens will be more scratch resistant by removing the oleophobic coating. Then, you would rarely see scratches on the actual glass, but then you would see smudges and fingerprints right out of the box. Something you will see a few months down the road anyways. Leave the coating off. It's a gimmick.

Or, they can increase the strength of the oleophobic coating. With Apple's R&D funds, I'm pretty sure they can manage that at least...

They could market it as the astonishingly innovative and industry leading ":apple: Nano Armor Coating" or something like that...the gimmick zombies would love it.

Wxman2003 I agree with you and we both know consumers love gimmicks smh

The best part is in 6 months, people with screen protectors will see issues on their screen when they remove the protectors. Since there are few if any screen protectors that cover the entire 6 screen, the edges that do not have the protector will lose the coating and will look different than the screen that was covered. Then we will hear how the edges look faded and people will demand a replacement because the screen has gone bad. This will be a first, because the 6 is the first iPhone that has a curved edge and can't be fully covered. It will be quite obvious to the eye. Like a milky outlined halo around the screen protector after removal.

That's interesting to read because I've only had my model just over a weak and it's already covered in prints. Not a single scratch but smothered in prints.

That being said it doesn't bother me too much because you can't see them when the display is active. I use no screen protector.

Why does my phone lack any scratches and yours is scratched so badly?

Other people in this thread have the same issues.

What color is yours? My friend's gold 6 has no scratches, but my SG 6 seems to be somewhat scratched.

Also, by badly...I have hairline scratches. No stars.

Oh man, that's gotta be fun.

Looked very carefully, been in reflected light and my screen is looking great. I have own the SG 6 from day one.

I do not carry my device in my pocket but use a holster. Do a good bit of traveling during the workweek and tired of the pocket thing while driving.

Mmmm. Screen resistant screens. Screengate. Scratchgate mmmm.

Apple actually is dying. Lol at shareholders, though most shares are probably held by the giants who don't really, in the end, give a fsck until everything is too obvious then they dump huge quantities simultaneously en mass. I wonder which day that will happen.

A holster would def help...just that I'd look ridiculous with it. No offense...I'm too young for that.

I do wish there was a better way than putting it in a pocket. iPhone 6 in pocket while on a rowing machine (no, I don't take it with me when on the water) feels so awkward.

One week after getting my 6 plus 128gb, I managed to get a 4" scratch so deep I can feel it with my fingernail on the screen. It actually cut into the glass. I never set it down face first and always shake out my pockets regularly to keep anything from scratching it there. No idea how it happened. I have had every iphone made except for the 5s, a 4th gen itouch and an iPad 4 and never had this happen. Thankfully I got a screen protector and it hides the scratch somehow so I won't hate myself every time I look at the phone...

Here's what I don't get about the oleophobic coating - my Tech Armor tempered glass screen protector has an oleophobic coating and it's not getting these little scratches like the phone glass is. How is that?

I have a SG iPhone 6. The glass is so scratched at this point; it's littered with scratches.

I use a Spigen case on the back. I put it in my pocket. It has not been mistreated.

For reference, my iPod touch 2nd gen and my iPhone 4s are still flawless. My OnePlus doesn't have these problems with the same treatment...

Should I go replace it? It's not accidental damage at this point...

u got apple care...you pay up 79 bucks or something like that...and get another...

I really don't understand the complaints about scratches. My 6+ is 100% scratch free, and I don't even use a case. That's not to say that other people might not be having issues, but it's either due to how they use the phone or (maybe) due to some differences in the phones themselves.

Maybe iPhone 6 is an experiment by TC to see just how junk they can make a phone with an Apple logo on it and people will still stand in line to pay $1000 for?
