That’s what lithium Ion battery’s can do. All it takes is one faulty cell and cascade energy release occurs. Certain percentage of phones will exhibit faulty battery. Usually by swelling. Should have taken straight to Apple store. When it started to swell. By you futsing with it or third party, you clearly abrogated Apple’s responsibility. Clearly stated in their documentation.
1) take Apple products to Apple for repair;
2) don't take back a battery you know is defective (i.e. swelling). I mean, that is a ticking time bomb.
Just a fun story. Earlier this year, my 2011 MBP expanded overnight, battery busting through the bottom. The touchpad was pushing through, the laptop couldn't close anymore. Felt incredibly nervous holding it, and leaving it in my car or home. I actually left it outside on my porch, towards the end of a Connecticut winter. I called Apple, they confirmed my device and advised I make a Genius Bar appointment. I arrive, just to be told verbatim "this is a vintage model, we don't touch these" and was sent on my way. So I then removed it myself. I was legitimately scared.

Why the hell would you agree to take back as swollen battery?? Even if he gave it to you, you should have disposed of that ASAP as as swollen battery is a time bomb and will explode eventually.
I don't care what it cost, I will always take my devices to be professionally serviced by Apple. It's just my preference, I don't trust third-party repair sites or vendors handling my expensive purchases.
I said properly dispose, but you really shouldn't have even agreed to take back a defective battery from the shop.You can't just dispose of the battery in a regular garbage for starters!
Maybe next time toss that exploding battery in the stainless steel sink.

It was like having a firework in your hand so I threw it as fast as I could so I didn't get burnt.
[doublepost=1509647786][/doublepost]At the end of the day the battery should not explode randomly... it could have done the same thing to do the store clerk.

The battery that was removed was the original battery from Apple.

This really should have been taken to Apple in the first place the second you noticed the screen lifting. NEVER use a non Apple company to fix your devicesYou tampered with the phone by opening it up! This is clearly a case where you should have let Apple deal with it....

All lithium batteries can explode randomly. They shouldn't... but they can and do.
The fault is with the guy at the cell phone store. If he is selling batteries, he should have means to dispose of them properly. The next fault is with you for not going to Apple.. and taking the battery home... even though he slipped it into the bag.
