I always wonder why people who have these kind of leaks at home don't actually try to examine them. It's like when the iPhone 4 leaked and people wondered what resolution the display has, almost as if it doesn't take a few minutes to find out.

The same here: They suspect the panel to be made of sapphire. So they scratch it with keys and knives, the same Corning does with their panels. Yeah, it's most definitely Sapphire.

What is there to examine?

As he pointed out in the video, that's hard to do without the complete phone. However the fact that this panel is so flexible suggests that it would fair quite well in such a test. The rigid nature of glass is what generally causes it to fail on impact.

I'm quite optimistic it'll do well in a drop test. Ultimately, we'll have to wait for the real deal to see, but I think it won't take long for someone to, please forgive for saying it, mock up:p a reasonable facsimile.

I tend to believe this is actually sapphire. If I'm not mistaken, sapphire shows a purple hue of held at a certain angle and the video shows that a couple of times. I'm excited! No more screen protectors!

Holy crap, when he bends it under his foot!

I thought sapphire was supposed to be super rigid and prone to flex fractures. Obviously not.

I wonder how well it stands up to edge impacts.

The jury is still out on whether or not that is made from sapphire or Gorilla Glass. Still guessing at this point. But it is DURABLE, that's for sure!

I hope that Apple does not revert to having the FaceTime camera to the left of the speaker, a-la iPhone 4/4S. The lack of symmetry just seems odd for an Apple product.

Great video, I like this guy as far as video bloggers go. Good camera angles and good quality.

As far as the screen how about those tiny side bezels? I can't wait for September

I hate this guy... Really... This is one of the stupidest Apple hater. He usually called Apple products an overprice *****. But now he looks like joke being excited for iPhone 6. Cant wait his 1m Android fans how to react.

Thats amazing! He beat the hell out of that piece of glass and it didn't do anything!

Definitely amazing. I'm afraid this may have the potential to hurt the 3rd party screen protector market. Though I'm sure some people will still want matte/non reflective or privacy films.

As much as I personally love using Power Support screen protectors myself, I'm excited by the notion of not needing to use one for the next iPhone.

Can't wait!

I'm still going to reserve judgement as to whether that is an actual sapphire glass panel. It could very easily be a Gorilla Glass 3 panel. A very similar test was done on the HTC One (not M8) over a year ago and that phone achieved similar results. The flexing really made me think it was GG3 since it flexes just like that. Without a materials test, I will view that panel with a healthy bit of skepticism.

Bezels are thinner than iPhone 5/5s: top, bottom and sides. Look at that gap between Touch ID and bottom of the screen: less than iPhone 5/5s. I like.

When is the purple hue?

That screen looks bigger than the mockup? Don't you think? Bezels seem much smaller too! We need some exact measurements, please.

Mockups were reported multiple times to be of low quality and that bezels of actual product would be slimmer. This is no surprise.

i don't think it is a purple hue, seems like it is just a reflection

Will be interesting to see if this turns out to be legit. Wish he would have rubbed sand over it to see how it holds up against that. Sand has always been what's scratched my screens, including the nice little 2/3rds of a cm scrape on my 5s screen.

Also, the opening (the unpainted area here) of any LCD display is slightly larger than the actual illuminated pixel area. So a mockup based on "4.7 inches" (if that's the size of the actual pixel areas) might show overly-large bezels left over. But an actual part like this could show an opening slightly larger than 4.7 inches, meaning slightly smaller "bezels"--if what you count as bezel is the painted part. If you count the extra non-illuminated margins inside that opening, the "bezel" would be larger. If you count the rounded metal of the sides bulging wider than this glass, then the "bezel" would measure larger still--and maybe more like some of the past renderings.

I said earlier I would reserve judgement. Year old video of Gorilla Glass passing similar test. Could be a GG panel.

Impressive. Though will Sapphire still need an oleophobic coating to reduce fingerprints? If so, that could still be susceptible to minor scratches.

We still don't know exactly how susceptible to scratches the oleophobic coating might be on sapphire. Applying it on sapphire is requires a different method than on glass.

Apple has some patents about this process : https://www.google.com/patents/US20140087197

Actually, I didn't think he put a lot of pressure on the knife or the keys. It was kind of poking and light scratching.

Tape it to a deck of cards and drop it on concrete. This would be a more realistic scenario.

The bezels look smaller mostly because the edges are curved. The mockups obviously didn't anticipate that nor would they be able to produce a part with that kind of tolerance.

So by curving the edges to meet seamlessly with the edge of the enclosure, it reduces the size of the bezels on the flat portion of the cover. It's going to look absolutely beautiful and incredibly impressive with that kind of close tolerance seamless fitting. Basically, it will replace the diamond cut chamfered edge of the current products, so it will feel like a continuous shape.
