The iPhone is mainstream.

If you don't like the big model don't buy it and get the smaller one. I don't understand why Apple giving it's customers a choice is such a big deal.
I think it's great that Apple is offering bigger iPhone; my problem is that all of us that rather have a more sensibly sized iPhone like the 4s, won't be able to anymore.

These kinds of things remind me why I hate the mainstream.
I don't wanna sound like a hipster, but seriously why 5.5, who in the damn world has hands that big and can still use their phone with 1 hand.

Me. Even then, not everyone cares about one handed use. All that is is Apple marketing spin to justify staying years behind in screen size.

What happened to small and comfortable to use after taking it out of your pocket?

Pretty sure it's still here. You shouldn't have any problems with a 4.7 inch screen unless you're a child, and even then a 4 inch screen was probably too big for them to use one handed.

What ever happened to technology having to get smaller and smaller, why are we going in the opposite direction? only to realise later that we want things smaller again because it's all too big.

What are you talking about? Technology gets bigger when it makes sense and smaller when it makes sense. Phone screens are getting bigger the same reason monitor and TV screens are getting better. Bigger is better for content.

Really? You want the iPhone to get smaller every generation? You realize how silly that is right?

Nasty white bands they say. Protruding camera lens is ugly they say. I'll wait until I see this phone in person; pictures never tell the whole story...

PROTRUDING CAMERA LENS
FAT TOP & BOTTOM BEZEL
PIN STRIPES
BULBOUS EDGES
THIN BATTERY

Nothing about it looks ahead of it's time. I thought Jony would make the iphone 6 look like a mini ipad mini. Congrats on living up to poor expectations.

the iphone6 is 3-4 mm thinner than the motox, so it should be easier to hold

I wonder if people who mention the Moto X's thickness have held or used one. I was unimpressed with its physical design until my phone broke and I started looking at a bunch of different handsets. Holding the Moto X was a wow moment for me. The curved matte back and lack of sharp edges feel perfect in the hand and it doesn't wobble on a table. The small bezels and dimensions allow for easy one-handed use and better pocketing. The curved back also enables amazing battery life. It's made to be used without a case, so mine is pretty much the same dimensions as my wife's 4" iPhone 5S with a slim case.

Apple could learn a bit from LG. The G3 is smaller and much lighter with the same 5.5 inch screen size.

Something's off about this. the spec's do suggest that the phone will almost identical to the HTC One, but if you look at the pictures, the top and bottom bezel look significantly bigger on the iPhone 6 than the HTC one with the same size screen. This kind of gives me pause about this leak, as legit as it looks.

It is just an optical illusion. the bezel of the HTC one looks smaller, because they have the black glass part and on top of that the aluminum part. It kind of gives you the impression, that the aluminum part is where the bezel starts and the black glass is all screen, which is obviously not true.

Everyone complaining about white lines needs only to look at the HTC One (which everyone drooled over)...Hello white antenna lines.

Once the sweet smell of that fresh Apple box hits your nostrils, you won't have any issues with them.

so yeah this is definitely the iPhone 6. I'm sure it'll look better as a finished product.

----------

Also, the "white bands" on the silver version is clearly just an outline as it will be filled with glass, like the 5/5s

wow, this is the ugliest iPhone to day. I cant believe Apple choose to not make the phones 1 mm thicker to avoid the protruding camera. It is not like an additional 1 mm thickness would have any impact on the design, instead they came up with a design that is not only ugly but looks like an afterthought.
I was going to upgrade from my iPhone 5S as I really need a bigger screen, but this design is definitely no very appealing and it will make me think twice before I make a jump and upgrade - all of sudden most android and WP phones do not look half bad compare to this iPhone 6 crap.

Did you copy/paste your comment from EVERY other iphone release thread over the years? If I had a buck for every time I've read a post like that I'd be rich. If you don't like it don't buy.

Continuity is Salvation

Saving the $ and sticking with my 5S never looked better.

I by no means see these 'prototypes' and think that they are the finished product. But in the end, I really could care less about the iPhone 6. I got a Note 2 for a bigger phone a year ago and immediately sold it and got an iPhone 5 and decided I'd never get an iPhone big enough for me. Now, I have an iPad Mini for reading and an iPad Air for working. I was really hyped about the iPhone 6 but ever since the WWDC announcement of Continuity.... iPhone is just a distant memory once iOS 8 is released. I'll use my phone to make a call but I usually do that over bluetooth in my car or using my bluetooth headset combined with Siri. I RARELY look at my iPhone 5 other than to put it in my pocket and to put it on the charger. I'm thinking that an iPhone 6 would be used the same way with the advent of Continuity. So I likely won't be getting the iPhone 6 anyway unless there is just some really cool features that make it outstanding. With Continuity, the phone itself really is just a transmission device to send signals to my other really useful devices that I can see and manipulate with MUCH more ease.

I'm hoping there's a good reason for the lens sticking out, and not just for the phone to be .6mm thinner!

However I have a DodoCase on my iPhone 5, and if I do the same on the 6, then that should line up quite nicely with the lens

And i'm still torn between 4.7 and 5.5. I know 5.5 is silly HUGE, but I never use my phone for calling, so a bigger screen would benefit me most of the time. But..its HUGE

I used a Note 3 for 2 weeks and after just a few days you get used to it. When I went back to my 4s i almost cried. I am so getting the 5.5"

White bands

Everybody is talking down those white bands. Now what if they show this on stage and they show how those white bands light up and turn all the different colors of the rainbow when you receive a call or a text or a notification? I bet all of you who are hating on them right now would rush out to get the iRainbow Phone! :D

Pull up the thread here when Engadget leaked photos of the 4. Lots of negative comments similar to what we're seeing now.

Yeah, but do the geeks that populate this site have enough sense of style and taste for us to get worked up? The 4 was beautiful. These will continue to be good looking phones. But I think the 4 was the peak. Yes, the glass back had risk associated with it. But as long as you didn't drop it and crack it, it weathered the years much better than the 5 form factor with all its chips.

----------

The 4 was great I agree. I think the 5 looks really nice too. But what's most important is what you brought up about the curved sides. That's a huge improvement for me. I hate the sharp edges that started with the 4. Hurts my fingers (laugh all you want people) but it's really not comfortable at all to me. I can't wait for the rounded edges. Nice and soft and smooth edges on my fingers.

Smooth is great.
For me it will go in a case for the first year or so. Too risky to carry it naked. Once the 6s comes out, then my 6 will come out of the case and I will risk it.

why is it there is always someone(or the same person) complaining when something is leaked

do you really get off by having a new device unvailled as a totally surprise?

I love the next gen device like anyone else but I could care less if I know what it looks like prior to some goof from apple holding it up in the air on stage likes a life changing event

thats like saying people that thought they could never go without a physcial keyboard now enjoy touch screen, or people that only ever wanted a flip phone have now moved on

change is hard but you get use to it after tiime

why are the white antenna lines so big though? The HTC One has nice small antenna lines.

You're talking about a millimeter. Consider it a trade off for not having to stare at hideous cell carrier logos plastered on your device like Android phones. Just imagine:

:apple:
VERIZON WIRELESS!!!!

:apple:
AT&T!!!!!

Yuck....

The 5.5 will have the same dimensions as the galaxy note 3 (but with a smaller screen- sigh) and the 4.7 will be pretty close to the htc one m7. So here a picture:

maxresdefault.jpg

Middle would be the 4.7" iphone and right the 5.5" verion

I would gladly take an extra mm of thickness for more battery. And then the camera might not need to stick out. (not that it matters, since it's going directly into a case anyway...)

Indeed. And sliding the phone on a table isn't going to work anymore. Wait... forget sliding, you can't even lay the phone flat on a table with that thing  .

Since these are pictures of early prototypes from February, maybe Apple will place a dummy sympathetic protrusion symmetric to the camera protrusion on the other side. Then the phone will not rock and will have a stable (but slightly inclined) plane when placed on its back on a flat surface.
