These kinds of things remind me why I hate the mainstream.
I don't wanna sound like a hipster, but seriously why 5.5, who in the damn world has hands that big and can still use their phone with 1 hand. What happened to small and comfortable to use after taking it out of your pocket?

What ever happened to technology having to get smaller and smaller, why are we going in the opposite direction? only to realise later that we want things smaller again because it's all too big.

This is for giant sized men who can palm grip a basketball and for women who carry large purses and annoy you at concerts by filming them with a huge screen that is above their head but right in your face.

For those of you who hate the protruding lens... Would you be ok with it if the camera's specs absolutely blow your socks off? (serious question)

No, I have a Nikon DSLR to blow my socks off. I prefer a nicely designed phone. I hate to say it, but i think i might have been OK with a phone a little bit thicker so that the lens fits flush. Either that, or skimp a bit on the lense. The current quality of photos on the 5s is good enough for me. .

we're all going to be drooling over the new iPhone when Tim shows it off next month. I hate the leaks too, the white bands and camera lens. I'm about 99.9% sure that I'm buying this next iPhone as I have done before. It's apple, once the final product is out of the box being shown off all nice and shiny, I'm sure we'll like it better.

2014-2-12 is shown on the computer's screen.
Maybe early prototype? (not american date)

Personally, from the images I've seen I HATE the lines and the protruding lens. I LOVE the rest of the design. Cant do anything about the lens, but I guess I'll have to get the Black (or dark grey) iPhone to minimize the lines' appearance.

I'm still going to get the phone though... as I'm sure millions of people will also.

I'm not fond of the thick lines but I know it will look better in person.

Unfortunately, these thick bands will stop some people buying the iPhone 6 which is pretty sad actually considering you don't look at the back of the phone.

The screen tends to be on the front, doesn't it?

The 5.5 inches camera is .1mm thicker, i hope it isn't for some reason "better".

I thought it said it protrudes .1mm more, not that it's .1mm thicker. If the 5.5 phone is thinner, then the same sized camera would need to protrude more.

Funny you mention that... It IS on the back, and no people don't mostly look at the back. Should this call for a "Steve wouldn't have allowed that?" Hahaha! In his book he mentions a story about his father painting a fence and how he would pay attention to details even the back of the fence.

“He loved doing things right. He even cared about the look of the parts you couldn’t see.”

This philosophy helped lead to his obsession with detail. So personally yes, I think the back of the phone should be as nice. Even if I'm not looking at it all the time.

I am so glad there is actually someone who understands rather than just slur out the phrase: "Shareholders don't like small" or "You don't have to buy the phone". No. You're absolutely right it's a nitpick I have, and I'd like the 4" iPhone to be kept on par with the other sizes. I guess we both realize that's not going to happen and eventually even that size will be phased out.

Getting back on the insistence of my earlier post, I do not necessarily mean larger screens are for the none-tech savvy, rather, they are the group of people that wants a larger screen at the moment, and are the ones who influence apple the most to go for a larger/bigger screen. If you add the tech savvy people on top of that, the majority is obvious. However, ALL I really wanna say --( because my first post was a rant really ) -- is that Bigger != Better. I am not against choice, nor am I against other people's screensize preference. I just want to enjoy iOS with a 4" screen as others would with a 4.7 or 5.5" From the looks of it.. we can all assume that that's not going to happen and that is why I am bothered with larger iPhones.:apple:

Speaking as a tech savvy guy, who prefers smaller screens this is highly frustrating sometimes.

It's all good. We want what we want, and not getting it can be disconcerting. Trust me, I feel your pain. I want to get a new car next year but the model I want only comes in automatic with stupid paddle shifters. No manual. I refuse to drive automatics. I've only driven my wife's car once in 6 years. Pretty soon though, I will have no choice. Manuals are going the way of the dodo.:(

The thick band/protruding lens thing is sort of like when you stub your toe and it hurts really bad, but then you hit your thumb with a hammer... The bands were kinda ugly, but then the protruding lens made an appearance and I completely forgot about how ungainly they were. Well I can't afford a new phone anyway, and even if I could I'd just get a 64GB 5s. Well, by the time the 7 comes out I'll be a millionaire...

The bands don't fuss me. The camera though... if that is protruding for no good reason I am done with the iPhone and I'll get a Z2 or Z3 (if it's announced by the time I can upgrade) or the Nexus 5 or whatever is going to come after it.

Something's off about this. the spec's do suggest that the phone will almost identical to the HTC One, but if you look at the pictures, the top and bottom bezel look significantly bigger on the iPhone 6 than the HTC one with the same size screen. This kind of gives me pause about this leak, as legit as it looks.

It's the HTC that's throwing you off. It does have smaller symmetrical top and bottom bezels but it also has asymmetrical "black space" at the top and bottom - where the htc logo sits.

The evidence is mounting that there will indeed be a 5.5" iPhone 6, whether it will be released at the same time as the 4.7" we will find out. But i think they will both be announced at the same time i.e, September 9th :D

As long as they announce them at the same time, I'll gladly wait a little longer for the 5.5" model. If not, I'll get antsy, buy the 4.7" and then sell it when the 5.5" is out. :D

I saw that too, not sure if this is still the "prototype" from earlier in the year.

I can imagine that those camera rings and antenna bands are placeholders for parts that were not available yet on that date. If those dates are true, they are from 6 moths ago. A lot can happen in 6 months.

Luckily, I don't buy phones based on what they look like, as I actually use them, as opposed to them being fashion accessories. My phones go into a case anyway, so as far as I am concerned, they can add pink blinking LEDs to the back. I knew someone once who bought CDs and books purely based on their cover. Goes somewhat in the same direction for me as buying phones based on their design.

You just defied most of what sir Ive and Apple stands for.

I'm not 100% which one i'm going to get, i want to see them announced and for them to talk about the features and all the stuff they usually do, before i make my mind up. At the moment i like the idea of the 5.5" but i'm not sure how practical it will be for on the move, i.e. commuting to and from University, work and so on. I'm looking forward to the event on the 9th of September

I wonder why the apple logo only appears on the larger model in the schematic - probably just an oversight but could it be a light-up logo???

I personally wouldn't mind the camera bezel protruding, if they open the market with magnetic camera lenses i think this will be the beginning of a beautiful journey for taking fantastic photos on the iPhone (just no selfies)

I am reasonably sure that there is a significantly larger marget for 3.5" phones than for 5.5" phones.

There might be, but the current 3.5"market is majorly low-end smartphones and semi-dumbphones where a very tiny profit (if at all) of the profit for producers is generated.

Everytime someone says this, I cringe.

As if apple is developing their new product right now and everytime they finish a concept of feature, they have this shareholder looking over their shoulder, approving and disproving anything they do. Stop using this so loosely, it's far less of a factor than people make it out to be.

You have absoluetly no idea whether I choose to use this loosely and in addition have absolutely no idea how much I know of shareholder decision processes in publicly traded companies.

There were several reports that said the lines weren't going to be on the final design and I was holding out hope for that.

The protruding camera isn't as big of a deal imo. I had a fifth gen iPod touch and the camera protruding wasn't at all noticeable for me.

Yeah but it got to the point where Apple has no choice but to start mass producing them and the iPhone leaks every year. If we see the same part leaked by different people on a weekly basis, it's basically 100% likely that it's going to look EXACTLY like the leaks.

Also, anyone who says they should make the phone 1mm thicker so the camera doesn't protrude is incredibly stupid.

If the phone was 1mm thicker that wouldn't be noticeable, would let it rest absolutely flat which is useful at times, would prevent any rocking whilst typing ona flat surface, and you'd probably get an extra 10-20% battery life. Whats "incredibly stupid" about that ?

the iphone6 is 3-4 mm thinner than the motox, so it should be easier to hold

It's hard to compare because the Moto X is shorter and less wide. So yes, the iPhone 6 will be much thinner but it's also taller and wider.

I think a better comparison is the Nexus 5, which I had some trouble using with one hand. I'll need to handle the iPhone 6 to determine its ergonomics.

This made me laugh, not at you but because you are so right. I been reading the large amount of whines about lines, and think "Wah wah first world problems are so bad!". :D Design taking away from function, like reception, is bs and I am ok with bands that make the phone pick up better and like you said, if you stare at the back of you phone all day..........um yeah your using it wrong lol.
