The Plus is not an iPad replacement. Yes, someone could use the Plus in lieu of an iPad if they didn't want to or couldn't afford both. But the experience is completely different.

I have the Plus and the Air, and there is no way the Plus could replace my Air. Sure, I can make do with the Plus, and often do because its the only thing I have on me, but if every chance I get I reach for the Air. Much more comfortable to work with.

But now while lying in bed and reading, the Plus is a big plus (pun intended), because it is a lot lighter and easier to hold up. So for late night reading it works. Web surfing is still not a pleasant experience on a sub 7" screen. But Tapatalk and dedicated apps get close.

hey stop being so sensible. Haven't you seen the way others post. Your not welcome here with your sensible rationality :D

I bought my plus to replace my iPhone and iPad mini.
So far so good. I don't miss my iPad at all but I only used it to consume media.
I'm really hoping app devs do something cool with apps optimized for the plus.

You can't run iPad apps on the plus since it's a phone, not a tablet... So, no, it cannot really replace an iPad...

I don't really care about having iPad apps running. What's important to me is that I can use my device for all the tasks required. I don't want to have the issues the Mini is having being not entirely optimized for the tablet ui.

I thought I could replace the ipad with the 6+ but it's not the case. Bigger screen, bigger keyboard. Ipad apps, and better web browsing..

I have an iP6 in "preparing for shipment" status. I also own an iP5 and an iPad Mini (1st gen). I took a long look at iP6+ in the Apple store. In fact I compared my iP5, iP6 and an iP6+ with all 3 open on the email app to test readability. I found the iP6 to be "good enough" for my daily use so I could stop my constant ritual of flipping to landscape so I could read stuff. Not to even mention the dozens of apps that refuse to rotate to landscape.

I don't expect to replace my iPad with an iP6+ but I must admit I DID think about it. The problem for me is the iP6+ is simply too big for me to carry as an "always with me" device and I don't mind carrying my iPad mini to classes, meetings, doctor's appointments, etc to take notes. I own a couple of bt keyboards for my iPad mini but I almost never use them. Maybe I'll invest in either a better bt keyboard or possibly even a retina iPad Air or iPad mini to carry for note-taking but I won't be bothering with a "phablet" as an always with me device. I also won't bother with a MBA as I require cellular data on any note-taking device so my notes can get backed up as I type.

Just really depends what you do with it. Netflix video looks excellent on a Plus and as noted above, a 6 Plus is a lot easier to hold up when you're in bed reading ebooks or watching video. Because of the 16:9 aspect, most modern video content won't end up being a huge amount smaller on a Plus than an iPad (particularly an iPad Mini). For web surfing or typing anything I still prefer my iPad Air, but the Plus can do it fine, just a bit more zooming and panning needed.

So yes, I think it can replace an iPad, it's just a matter of your tolerance for the compromises. I'm still on the fence about it personally but I can't deny that the Plus is just a lot more convenient with it being pocketable and always with me.

I also think eventually you are going to see some developers start making special Plus layouts for their apps as it is really the only iPhone that is close enough to an iPad that you can do some things that wouldn't work on a smaller screen. Apple has already started this with the landscape split views, but I think we'll see even more.

Games for example. Take Blizzard's Hearthstone, it works great on an iPad and while they are working on an iPhone version, I think that is going to be a much different experience because the cards will necessarily have to be shrunk a lot to fit the interface. But on a 6 Plus I think you could do a really nice hybrid type layout where it's more compact than the iPad version but can still display large-ish card art well.

I use my iPad for productivity work such as grading papers and creating/editing Keynote lectures. At the time of purchase, the iPad Mini worked best for me: light weight but still having enough screen real estate to get the job done. If the Mini was any smaller, I wouldn't use it as much as I do now.

That's my long winded way of saying that I don't believe the 6 Plus would make a good iPad replacement.

I have an iPad 4 and a retina iPad mini and the mini sucks for spreadsheets, comic books, magazines, etc because the text is too small.

No way a 6+ could realistically replace an iPad for me. To me the 6+ is in the no-man's land of being an uncomfortable phone and a terrible tablet.

I did.

I have both a 6 and a 6+.

Hated most internet pages on the 5s and trying to read them.

The 6 is is not bad but definitely love the 6+ instead of lugging around an iPad.

Get this. I put both phones in the same pocket and have no issues.

Out of curiosity what made you get both phones, 6 and 6+?

I had a 5c and iPod touch 5 bc I wanted to add apps that did not need wifi to give my phone more space and save the battery. Now that I have the Plus 128gb, I have no need for the touch. I also have an iPad mini, which, now, I leave home more bc the Plus screen has made up for all the games I like to play and apps I love to use.

Again, no disrespect meant at all... Just wondering.

I'm hoping that some of the magazine apps that are exclusive to tablets will float over to the plus

I definitely wouldn't buy a 6+ in addition to a 6 expecting the 6+ to be iPad like, that just seems a bit silly. However, for me personally, I haven't touched my iPad since getting my 6+. I never really used it much before. For me the iPad is a toy and not a productivity tool, that's what my Mac and Windows desktop are for. I'll be selling my iPad to help towards a new Mac, as soon as Apple announces new Macbook Pros.

What I can say is that I'm considering selling my iPad 3 and iPod Touch 5th generation. My iPad mini and iPhone 6+ take care of my basic needs very nicely.

You could technically "make due" with nothing... However, the Plus to me is a bit unwieldily as a daily driver. I really do not see a major use for the 5.5 inch segment. But that is personal. Some people like watching movies and playing games on their phone, where I can clearly see there is a plus to the Plus, but I am not one of them. But it's good we have choices.

The screen gives me almost as good a view as the retina mini but the problem is most of the sites I visit default to the cell phone version without an easy way to pull up the full tablet or desktop version that I prefer to use. The 6Plus in landscape can certainly handle the desktop versions of most websites. MacRumors has a simple link I can click to bring up the desktop view but other sites make you work for it.

I can see the 6+ replacing the need for an iPad mini, but not the Air. I gave my non Retina iPad mini to my son since I'm not really needing it with my iPhone 6 and MBP. If they do release the rumored 12" "iPad Pro" that may be a different story.

I have a mini and a 5. Been considering getting the 6 but wondering if it's really a noticeable difference in screen size. Love my 5 but not enough storage for my current needs. Can you really tell a difference with .7 more? Honest question.

At first I got both to choose one.

Now I've found there are times when I need a bigger screen(games, iMovie, NFL Game Rewind,iBooks ...), and times when I can just use the 4.7"(text,calls,FaceTime...).

I like having the 5.5" screen when the 9.7" is not available. The plus side of the Plus is having it with you always (as phones usually are) vs a tablet which may get left behind once in a while.

So if I left the tablet and I only have the Plus on me, I can watch a movie or play a game. Tried it in bed and it was ok. But ended up ditching the Plus for the iPad Air every single time.

I bought the 6 Plus expecting to use it as a viable replacement for my iPad Air. Too small to replace it. Typing on the Air now, and happily have the 6 for more "mobile" use.

It's laughable to consider it a tablet replacement. I wonder if the same threads will surface once they reveal the next incarnation of the iPad this year..

The first threads will be about wether the iPad Air 2 will bent or not if you put an iPhone on it...

I'm a 2 phone type of person. As crazy as it is, I have a 5s, 6 Plus, iPad air and MacBook Air.

My 5s is my text and call workhorse, 6 Plus is my portable media and web browser, IPad is for bed and reading and my MacBook air just comes out when I need it.

I'm thinking of getting a iPad mini and debating on just getting the 6+ be cheaper and 6 has better hardware
