I had a 4S and the mini retina. I have unlimited data for my phone so I was hoping the plus would replace my mini, which is just Wi-Fi. It can't.

That being said, like others have posted, the plus is a great device and I wouldn't want a 6.

For me, no. I tend to prefer desktop versions of sites (inluding MR forums) and the iPad's bigger screen and 4:3 aspect ratio just works better for me in both landscape and portrait configuration. Mind, I also have 5:4 displays at work. Just personal preference. I can make do with the 6 Plus if I absolutely have to but if the iPad is readily available I'd prefer to use that.

Besides, for technical PDF and comic reading, the iPad wins and those are actually the primary reason I buy tablets. :p

I absolutely agree about the aspect ratio. I honestly wonder why the tech world moved to 16:9? I mean, I guess it offers better video, but 4:3 video wasn't terrible. I've never used a 5:4 display, but it sounds nice.

1280*1024 is 5:4. It's a pretty common resolution for non-widescreen 17" displays or bigger so you probably have used those at one point or another albeit unknowingly. :p

The question is really simple. If you already own an iPhone 6, would you also get the iPhone 6 Plus?
I am thinking of buying it. The Plus would be my tablet replacement device, while my iPhone 6 would remain my main smartphone.
I know it costs a lot to have both, so I wanted to see who else is thinking of doing the same.
Thanks.

I'd rather buy an iPad mini and use it together with iPhone 6.
6Plus is not a tablet replacement device, iPad mini is still bigger and has more real estate for your apps and web content.
You may have only the 6 Plus and avoid getting an iPad, but since you have an iPhone 6 I don't see a reason why you should get a Plus since you can get an iPad mini for half the price.

no. the plus is not a substitute for my air. the plus is my air when im not at home. the air is my air when im at home. why would i want to give up 5 inches of screen?

No; my iPhone Plus is simply a big phone for my big hands! I'll still be using my iPads and will probably think about getting at least one more iPad for home use when the next releases are available (presumably, next month.)

I am getting the 6+ and replacing my ipad 3 with Air 2 when it comes out.

I read alot of whitepaper articles with data analysis, a whole bunch of favourite TV series ( i know am an addict:D) , generally home entertainment\usage, holiday companion hence this is where the ipad comes in.

As for the 6+ it will just replace my bb10 & do a lot more .:)

Oh yeah....you're right! I used them with an internship I had! I had forgotten.

It does not replace iPads for me.

The retina mini was too small for school, so I sold that and got an Air replacement.

The Air handles PDFs and PowerPoint slides and eTextbooks much much better than the retina mini, much less the 6+, could.

iPhone 6 owners: Would you get the Plus as an iPad replacement?

I have not touched my iPad air since I got my iPhone 6+ on launch day. I have had every iPad (except the 4th gen) and I can honestly say that the 6+ has eliminated my need for one, and will be selling mine soon. While the iPad was nice, I just like the idea of only having one device to manage, and I never took my iPad out of the house.

I also have a MacBook air that can fill in the one off needs for a larger device, but even that device goes unused outside of my need for it for some college classes that I take. I plan to sell it as well after these courses are over and look forward to only having one device.

I'm a 2 phone type of person. As crazy as it is, I have a 5s, 6 Plus, iPad air and MacBook Air.

My 5s is my text and call workhorse, 6 Plus is my portable media and web browser, IPad is for bed and reading and my MacBook air just comes out when I need it.

Curious - how do you do this practically? Do you swap the SIM card from the 5S to the 6+ or do you have 2 SIMs and 2 separate phone numbers for each phone? Or is there another way that I simply don't know about/haven't considered?

Didn't read all the responses but the iPhone Plus is not an iPad replacement. I own both the Plus and a Mini and they are two completely different products.

2 sims and 2 numbers. Work and personal. I actually returned the 6 Plus. It wasn't for me. I work with these devices everyday and I still wanted to try it but something just wasn't quite there. Went back to a 5s and a 5s haha

Not me. I have an iPhone 6 Plus and I have an iPad Air. Will keep it that way. 5.5 inches is not enought to replace my iPad Air. My iPad Air is a wonderful size to have around the house.

Again, it's about having the best tool for the job for me. The 5.5 screen of the Plus helps me when I'm mobile and cannot carry an Air. At home for content consumption ONLY (sorry the Macbook Air just wins hands down on any creation activities or long emails) the iPad Air reigns supreme and I rarely touch my phone.

But I can see people being excited by the new device and trying to convince themselves that their experience is better on the Plus than the Air for around the house usage, and that's fine for them. I'm more about efficiency.

For me the perfect option was having the iPhone 6 and keeping my iPad mini. I use the iPad on the train for reading books and news or watching videos. The 6+ is great but I prefer a bigger screen for reading books and having the iPad saves my iPhone battery. I would not want to carry a iPhone 6+ daily - its a brilliant phone but not fun to carry. I have a MacBook Air too and use that for more intensive work and preparing presentations. For me its about having different screens for different purposes.

I have an iP6 in "preparing for shipment" status. I also own an iP5 and an iPad Mini (1st gen). I took a long look at iP6+ in the Apple store. In fact I compared my iP5, iP6 and an iP6+ with all 3 open on the email app to test readability. I found the iP6 to be "good enough" for my daily use so I could stop my constant ritual of flipping to landscape so I could read stuff. Not to even mention the dozens of apps that refuse to rotate to landscape.

I don't expect to replace my iPad with an iP6+ but I must admit I DID think about it. The problem for me is the iP6+ is simply too big for me to carry as an "always with me" device and I don't mind carrying my iPad mini to classes, meetings, doctor's appointments, etc to take notes. I own a couple of bt keyboards for my iPad mini but I almost never use them. Maybe I'll invest in either a better bt keyboard or possibly even a retina iPad Air or iPad mini to carry for note-taking but I won't be bothering with a "phablet" as an always with me device. I also won't bother with a MBA as I require cellular data on any note-taking device so my notes can get backed up as I type.

I could have written this almost verbatim. I considered the 6+ to "combine" an iPhone 5 and iPad Mini, but after some hands-on time felt that the 6+ was just a bit too big for day-to-day carrying and use. I was frustrated with casual browsing on the iPhone 5 and smaller, but once I tried the 4.7" screen, it was great for those "killing time" moments while still being a manageable size. I have a couple of bt keyboards for my iPad that I never actually use.
