Why would it cost that much, when an iPad Mini cellular version (which is basically the same thing with an even BIGGER screen and one less mic + speaker) costs so much less?

You guys are crazy if you don't think people will pay 1000$. They pay more money then that then air jordan shoes.

Becuase it's not a iPad... I don't know I think the whe idea of a $1000 phone is super insane and is not a good move for apple

I've just seen this, a report that claims the iPhone phablet version which is said to be 5.5" will cost over $1000  if true and its a BIG IF, what do you guys think?

Avoid IB Times at ALL COSTS. The articles they "write" are nothing but fake. The titles are way too much click bait.

A past "article" of theirs had the title "iPhone 6 Release Date Confirmed!", when APPL hasn't even announced the damn device. The article linked just proves my point. How the hell did they figure $1285? They pull it out of their @$$?

While I don't think it will be that high, it is not unimaginable. There are phones out there going for over $800 now. And they do sell units. I believe the highest iphone 5s now retails for $849+tax.

I think the important question is how much these phones will cost after the subsidy provided by your telecom company. They will have to be able to keep these to under $500 for the end user.

I seem to remember that the Nokia E90 Communicator retailed for over 900 euros when it was released. I think that it actually cost 999 euros when it was released.

Over here in the Uk the most expensive iPhone is £709 unlocked from Apple, and that's a 64GB iPhone 5S. I can understand Apple maybe putting the price up by about £100 for a bigger screened iPhone, with Sapphire glass and better specs.

While I doubt it will go over $1000, I'm sure people will still buy it.
Maybe not as much as the previous iPhones, but there is still market for that.
Over here in Indonesia, the price for a 64GB iPhone 5S cost more than Rp.13millions. It'd be about $1,100 with today's exchange rate.

Like most articles they are just trying to generate a headline. It won't cost $1000. As posted above the retina iPad Mini with WiFi is a good benchmark.

Apple could well be very aggressive and price the new 4.7 at same price as the 5S or even lower, that will put huge pressure on the competition. Think about free Mavericks upgrades and free iWorks app upgrades.

Of course it will be $1000 plus. A 5S 64 gb is already $1129 in Australia.
That's a big difference from the article's '(AUD?) 1285 for 16GB' claim, though. Any idea what the 5s/64GB costs in China?

It'll be $200 as always.
I think you're confusing 'purchase price' and 'US carrier contract upfront price'. If the 6 is appreciably more expensive, and the carrier is unwilling to raise the initial cost, then surely your contract is going to rise by ~$10 a month to cover the extra?

$1000 subsidized is ridiculous.

Curious. Fellow AAPL holder here. Why?

Without getting too technical in Finance, one of the reasons did it was to make the stock more readily available to the average investor. Historically, these stocks don't increase at the same volume as they once did before the split, (unless you're The Home Depot)

The underlying value of the company doesn't change after a split (market capitalization,) just the price that each person has to pay for their own share. The stock is still a very good investment because of the dividend. But I think that large rollercoaster has come to an end. Way too much investor pressure to do something more with the over $100 billion in cash they have.

So overtime, it's a great hedge against other riskier assets. Keep holding it. I wouldn't purchase more unless you need the hedge or the fixed income.

Why would a 5½" screen iPhone that's subsidized cost more than an unsubsidized iPad W/ LTE? My he differences are what? I imagine and extra mic and speaker… oh and a dialing/visual voicemail (which is now so outdated now)? I mean really, an LTE iPad technically also included a phone number!

I wonder if anyone could jail break an iPad and put a 3G chip in and use it to make phone calls?

Supply and demand. iPad prices don't reflect iPhone prices.

My 32GB iPhone 5 cost me $1057 in the UK. That's the going rate here, and you guys are complaining about $1000 on a 5.5" much superior handset? :)
