This was actually my favorite keynote when Apple announced the 4.7 iPhone 6 and 6+. I was so excited, even though I ordered a little bit late, I didn’t even receive my phone for about 4 months. I remember unboxing the Plus model, and I was just amazed at the sheer size of it, but how substantial it felt in my hand with the 6000 series aluminum and rounded corners. I literally stared at it for about five minutes before I even powered it on.:D
Couldn’t get my hands on my iPhone 6 Plus until the end of November. That keynote was the death of android for me. Bigger phones, Apple Pay, the Apple Watch as one more thing.

And yet I see so many around.
Considering how relatively old it is, it's surprising to still see it so much around.
However I expect everyone dropping it later this year as iOS 16 wil probably not work on it.
Still...quite a venerable phone.
Also the first BIG iPhone
iOS 16? The iPhone 6 can only run up to iOS 12 I believe. You must mean the 6s which does run iOS 15, but will most likely not run iOS 16.

iOS 16 will definitely not work on the iPhone 6 Plus. Just as iOS 15,14 and 13 don’t.

It would be really interesting if apple had statistics on how many of these old devices are currently still in use (connections to iCloud or something).

The ASMR sound of a crunchy iPhone as it bends before my eyes on Youtube. Fond memories ?

I did like the purple flower wallpaper, though. And to be honest, I miss the rounded corners of the 6 series (after handling the 13 mini for a few months now), but I do not miss the slipperiness of the rounded corners.

My wife had an iPhone 6, it was terrible. I bought a 6s a few weeks later at its 2015 launch, it was a much better device than the 6. In fact, I passed my 6s onto my daughter when I replaced it 3 years later. She is either still using it or has recently finally retired it.

I never bought the iPhone 6 due to it having 1gb ram. I knew it was low then and it would cause issues. I bought the 6S the following year solely because of the 2gb ram, no issue whatsoever, and still using it today.

You’re right, that’s one of things that I think I didn’t pay attention to and many others as well, was not paying attention to the Ram at the time versus the nostalgia of a larger device.

The 6S was everything that the iPhone 6 should’ve been., And I owned that phone as well, and there was a significant difference in performance, especially with opening multiple apps or tabs in safari.

I enjoyed the device, it was nice to finally have a big screen again after I left Android for the iPhone 5. I didn't have the Plus model and don't remember having many issues with it. I do remember upgrading to the iPhone 6s Plus and noticing a big performance difference but I never felt the 6 lagging that bad.

I used to work as a technical specialist at an Apple store and this phone was the bane of my existence. Sometimes the bends were bad enough you couldn't replace a display properly, not to mention the numerous instances of "touch disease".

One time we replaced someone's 6 Plus with a new (refurbished?) one and right out of the box, the new one's display also had failed multitouch. Good riddance.

For all the poo poo apple gets, the software support is fantastic and unrivaled in android world

When I had a 6 plus I always felt the urge to bend it myself

strange how the iPhone 4 (8GB) and 4S are still in vintage (5+ years since sale) and not obsolete (7+ years since sale). This means apple was still selling the iPhone 4 (8GB) and 4S up to at least February 2015 - must be including RMA replacements ? "sale" outside normal retail channels (refurbs, old stock etc...) ? weird...

Surely the 4, 4S should be in obsolete by now and how come the 5S is not in vintage list yet but the 6S plus is ?! Maybe it will all make more sense when the list gets updated in September 2022.

My iPhone 6 Plus was a wretched beast and getting it through AT&T was a bonding experience with other MR forum members. I actually joined this forum to discuss that phone.

As much as it was a personal touchstone for me, it was definitely a turning point that put Apple squarely into the big phone market previously dominated by Android phones.

Loved this phone. The first big phone. I remember the screen was amazing--this was the 1st 1080p iPhone screen.

The iPhone 7 is the start of the "seriously powerful" iPhones, I'd expect it to last a little while yet. :)

Considering how well the iPhone 6s has held on, I'd be very surprised if it didn't see at least iOS 16.
I wouldn’t even be surprised to see the 6S get iOS 16, given how similar it is in performance to the 7.
But yeah, I don’t think we’re that far away from an iOS device getting A full decade of software support.
The iPad Air2 has gone from 8.1 to 15.4, which is extremely impressive.
But I especially expect the A10 and A12 Devices to get years and years of support, mainly just because of how many devices used those CPUs for as long as they did.
Apple still sells an iPod touch with an underclocked A10, and the budget iPad only moved past the A10 in 2020.
