They absolutely know. I had two phones delivered a week apart as one shipped from California & the other from China; the same driver delivered both, and commented on their contents without my saying a word. In fact, when the second arrived, he asked if something was wrong with the first one already!

Contact UPS. They weigh the package multiple times; that will help them figure out where in the delivery system it was swiped from the box.

This the thief wasn't smart, they should of put weight inside the box to make it impossible to trace. Call UPS have them look up where the weight changed.

I'm an attorney and I personally got it from the ups driver at the front desk because I saw her truck. Funny thing is that she shook the box as she placed it on the ledge as if she suspected a weight problem and she commented that "someone's getting a phone".

I had a busy day so I took the box into my office and put it on my desk until I had time to open it. I had custody of the box all the time and My staff could not and would not have stolen it.
Apparently, the drivers and other Ups staff know the content of the box based on her comment.

they always seem to know it comes from Apple, experience I guess . when I got my iPad delivered via UPS last week the guy was like "Apple? Nice man! enjoy the iPad"

Ok, I called UPS and was told that Apple has told them to direct all calls about this matter to Apple. I then called Apple and was told that I should get an email by the end of today detailing the result of their investigation and proposed resolution.

the way it works is - you need to contact both. the shipper and the shipping company. you REALLY need to contact UPS so that they have and you have a record that they messed up. plain and simple.

No, you don't. If you contact Apple, they'll start the investigation with the carrier. There is absolutely no need for the recipient to contact the carrier(unless we're talking about the post office).

It is going to happen. There are always dishonest people or we would not have a justice system. You have done you due diligence by reporting it. It is now up to Apple and UPS to figure out where it went missing.

They will figure it out. There are checks in place. UPS & Apple are smart enough to make sure people do not get away with this kind of thing. They can not afford to. It is bad for business.

Sorry you will have to wait a little longer for your phone. That is the worst part. At least Apple stepped up and is sending another.

I'm very curious to hear how this one pans out.

Sounds paranoid, but I always use my iPad and take a video of me opening the UPS box and the iPhone box -- all the way through powering up the phone and visually inspecting it. This documents everything, really. If there's a problem with anything, I have video evidence of me opening everything.

I've not had a problem like the OP (I think these kinds of things are relatively rare) but in my opinion, it doesn't hurt a thing to do it in front of a camera. When everything checks out, I can delete the video.

Good luck OP and keep us posted.

UPS SUCKS. They are fraudsters and thieves from the top down. Good luck getting anywhere with them. POS company that I used to love and now avoid like the plague.

Sounds like someone was not home when a package arrived.

I use UPS for shipping every day and out of the thousands of packaged they have handled for me, I bet I only had problems with a few. In the end they were either paid for or replaced at no cost to me.

UPS does darn good. I have used Fedex and UPS and UPS is cheaper and more dependable to me. Plus UPS has much better, up to date, tracking than FedEx.

Ok, I just got this email and it was exactly 24 hours from the time I called Apple yesterday.

The bright side is that I now have an Apple box to sell on Ebay for about $25 for my trouble. LOl!!

We're replacing your items.

As requested, we’re replacing the items on your order. Once they’re on the way, you’ll receive a Shipment Notification email with a tracking number and carrier information.

Also I didn't see if you ever said or not but was there still plastic wrap around the orginal Apple box?

I got the email text that I quoted above and when I called them , they said it will ship in 7-10 days with next day delivery.

They also want me to return the empty box:confused:

The shrink wrap around the apple box was missing.

That's because they need the box for the investigation. Glad they are sending you another.

Actually, iPhone shipment is put and locked up in a separate place at ups. So yes she likely knew it was an iPhone. But it doesn't say anything.

WTH are you talking about? Me? UPS destroyed a valuable item worth $5000 in shipping and wouldnt honor their insurance which THEY offered TO ME and for which I paid triple the original shipping costs. F them. Before that, I shipped with UPS almost daily. My primary business still gets daily drops from UPS as thats what some of my vendors choose. But I wont ship with them myself anymore.

But how do you really feel abput UPS.;)

Thanks for giving me another chance to say this: UPS is awful, terrible. Their insurance is a pure scam. Trust them at your risk.

Only had two claims and they paid without delay the full amount I had insured the package for.

Sounds like there is more to your story but I do not want to hear that here. Sorry about your experience with UPS.

Merry Christmas ! ! !

Not much. Its a pretty simple story. I hired them to ship something. I bought their insurance. They destroyed my property. I made a claim, sent them pictures and they picked up my property.

They investigated for weeks. The investigative/insurance specialist called me and admitted fault and promised full re-reimbursement was going to be mailed to me. Then the very next day they called and acted like the first conversation never happened and they were only going to give me $100.

I was able to squeeze a little more out of them, but after attorney fees, I wasn't much better off.

Duh, someone took it out of the box... UPS. Did you call UPS too?

When I've had hinky stuff happen in the past with stuff shipped to me, contacting UPS hasn't provided much help as it's on the shipper, usually, to push UPS for problems. Or possibly I've gotten people that just don't want to help. Don't know.

I've heard of packages not arriving, but to have a sorter, or delivery person swipe something is nasty...

I used to work with UPS, FedEx, DHL and USPS issues at my last job and I've dealt with hundreds of claims between them. I have to say that something seems to be missing from your story here. At that time, UPS was by FAR the easiest to deal with when it comes to claims and USPS was completely awful.

That is great, but you can see if the phone has been activated IMEI number and if so, Apple can block the phone. I am sure they will give you a new one if that is the case.

**just read the results: looks like Apple came through like always with good customer support. Enjoy your new phone **

Admittedly the one thing missing from the story is UPS's excuse for not paying. They say that I should have handed the package directly to a driver and not an authorized UPS drop-off center (which I did). There is something about that in the fine print when you look into their policy, but that was not made clear to me when the insurance was offered as I generated the shipment, and accepted the insurance. They shouldn't have taken my money for the insurance if that was the case.

I was in the middle of generating the shipment online when the $50 insurance was offered. i didnt think to look up their policy and read the fine print, nor did I have the time. Again, i was towards the end of generating the shipment online.

Moreover, the shipment was carefully packaged in brand new, unused materials and boxes. The damage that was done looked like it was dropped out of an airplane onto a highway and run over by 10 semi-trucks.

That's why I'm beyond upset. Their abuse of my property and not honoring the insurance reciprocity cost me thousands. I had to replace the damaged item.

Agreed. I have heard of UPS refusing to pay the insurance, even when the shipper paid for it if the item was worth way less than they insured it for. It was determined that the shipper inflated the value to collect on an item that was likely broken prior to shipment!

I remember when I sold a Leica to a Chinese purchaser and insured it for $9000. The UPS store demanded to open the box to confirm the contents prior to shipping.

UPS will not pay you $5000 for a broken item that is only worth a few hundred, no matter what value you insure it for.

"I screwed up by not paying attention, and when something bad came of it I hollered and yelled because it wasn't my fault! UPS is mean, nd they hurt my feelings!".

Is that what you were trying to say? I say stop acting like an infant and be a man. Good day to you, sir, good day.
