Why pre-bend it to get hits? He would have been better off bending a straight one. Having a pre-bend one would result in doubts like you have just raised.

Its not like he needed to damage the structural integrity so it would bend.

I'm 100% sure I could bend my plus, that is straight, just like he did.

Then why didn't he bend a straight one? Maybe it doesn't bend?

No Bend = No web hits

It will be interesting to see how many have this issue.

Seems to be as the phone are becoming slimmer. Personally I am the biggest apple fan however I have to say the Galaxy note is a nicer made phone.

I got the iphone 6 however. Over all not a fan of the curved glass and rounded edges. I feel iphone 7 in 2016 should maybe go for a flat design with a flat camera lens and maybe more square edges.

Here is the follow up video and a comparrison

Thats a huge difference in durability

Agree to disagree. The case designs and thus structural rigidity are WAY different. The Note has the squared off edges similar to the iPhone 4 or 5, which allows for a lot more torsion without giving. Especially when compared to the rounded off edges of the 6 and 6+.

We have been discussing this issue for days now on MR....... try reading the forums

Comparison? one is pre bent and the other isn't. Yea, that is a real fair test.
And I do read the forums, I have been reading them since 2002. I see many people speculating and no one with hard evidence.

No Bend = No web hits

Its made of thin aluminium, I am 100% certain I can bend mine if I tried.

If you believe a Iphone 6 plus could not be bent, with the force he applied = failing chemistry at school.

Its still more durable. Its made of plastic.

Gimme a break. you could do this with most phones on the market. Put pressure on it and it will bend/break no matter what it is.

Every time a new iPhone comes out everyone freaks out that it's a "bendgate".

I don't think so. I wouldn't' say a lot of the bigger android phones would. I went to a shop and had a play with the LG G3 ( a friends was thinking pf buying), and that felt very well build. I've held 2 friends iphones, (6 and 6+), and i feel im about to break them. Apple has dropped a real clanger this time.

SO....how do you think it was pre-bent?

People have posted their experience and pics, that is speculation???

Wow, give your resume to Tim Cook, if Jony Ive is a ****** designer, they clearly need a no name guy like you!

Reading comprehension is a key skill, you should give it a whirl. **** engineer, not designer. Read. Also, they have plenty of good engineers. The insinuation I made quite clearly (again, if you give it the ol' read-ski) is that they did not task their engineers with analyzing this.

Is this a joke? Because he says in the video that it was already showing signs of bending, just over the short period that he'd had it.

At 0:27 in the video he states, "...upon inspection, I actually noticed a tiny little indention towards the center of the device which kind of implies a little bit of a bend."

So it seems the way to get around not bending you phone is to put it in a temperature controlled glass case. At home.

Seriously, if the way not bend it is to have it in your pocket, thats a step back in phone design and a serious design flaw, which apple with all its R+D $$$ should've know about. They probably did, but thought they'd push the apple fns envelope on purchasing apple products (ie, they'll buy anything, no matter if its bad.)

The point is we don't know how they were bent. It is all speculation from an anonymous forum. Then when it is shown on video, it has been pre bent before the video to skew the results. I am not saying it won't bend, I am saying make it a fair test.

I already stated that.

I was replying to the other poster saying, how does he think it was pre-bent. insinuating that is happened during normal use.

He states it in the video. Watch it again.

Though I am sure you will dismiss it?

Then do it, put your money where your mouth is.

How about you buy one and do it, as your confident that it will not.

Why on earth would I destroy my phone knowing it will bend.

Your aware of Mohs scale right?

So you 100% trust a random person that wants you to watch his video so he can make money?? I have some snake oil to sell you then...

I had no idea you knew the exact alloy of aluminum that Apple uses and its hardness.

Maybe you should read about alloys:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aluminium_alloy

It's not back pockets that are causing the problems according to some users, it's FRONT pockets (and obviously back pockets would as well).

If this were an iPhone 4 or 5, I would see this as a problem, but we are talking about a giant 5.5" screen here folks! I am not sure about you, but when was the last time you saw a front shirt pocket wide enough to fit such a device?

I bet dollars to doughnuts that bending is being cause by pressure being placed on the sides combined with the knocking of the iPhone 6+ (from walking and having a large portion of the phone sticking out of the pocket) is causing 2 stress points, and thus warping the frame. This actually happened on not 1, but 2 Nintendo 3DS systems my brother owned; He originally thought placing it in his back pocket was causing the warping so he got a 2nd that he kept in his front...

I don't fault Apple in any way for people's own stupidity. It like people eating shampoo. Common sense goes along way. :p

I bought 6 Plus to replace my Note 3. I never gave a second thought about keeping the Note in my front pocket. All this is making my think twice about putting the 6 Plus in the same pocket. And if I can't put it in my front pants pocket, it suddenly makes the phone a lot more cumbersome. I did not just spend $900 to have to worry about it like it's a baby.

Is this a design flaw? Sure. But it's a flaw by design in the sense that people have placed unreasonable demands on Apple for bigger and thinner.

Although I know commenters here may not be indicative of the general public, a lot of us have asked for slightly thicker phones with better/bigger batteries. It seems Apple (Ive) is the one with the hard-on for thinner with each model.

You sir win my Apologist award for today. Gold star for you.

How on earth did you reach the conclusion it was an alloy?

You do realise that you can have an iphone that is made of Aluminium as stated by Apple. An alloy is when aluminium is mixed with another metal. If it was an alloy Apple would have announced it, as a major feature.

I have a 6+ on order currently. I'm also a mechanical engineer by day. I see a lot of "well duh if you bend it, it's going to bend" type comments, but it seems clear that this is something Apple overlooked. They should have predicted that under many normal circumstances people were going to put this phone in their front pockets. The phone shouldn't bend that easily. The guys phone was noticeably bent even before forcing it with his hands. Apple simply failed to analyze this scenario. It makes me wonder if they even run any kind of structural analyses at all on their phones, a simple Finite Element model would show this phone lighting up like a christmas tree at the weak spot in the case (clearly near the volume buttons), and could be reinforced fairly easily without sacrificing thickness of the overall device. Jony may be a good designer, but he is clearly a *****ty engineer.

Suffice it to say, I will not be putting this phone in my pockets ever.

I agree. I think this is a clear case of Ive being in his lofty position at apple and running wild, probably with no one around to rein him in.

Uh...hellooooo? Theirs was straight before it bended...

He states in the video there was a light bend after 2 days normal use.

And the apologists are discrediting the video based on that. You can see the bend yourself in the beginning of the video and make a judgement.
